I just placed two new cameras about five days ago and now I am itching to go check them. How often do you check your cams? how often is too often?

Thanks in advance,

Beentown

I don't own any game cams...

That said, I would love to have a couple BuckeyeCam systems. Then I wouldn't have to disturb my hunting grounds so much. I could get the pics and video sent to my computers. Not trying to pimp any certain camera but I have heard and seen some neat things from this company so I thought they deserved a plug.

From reading a lot of posts from the guys who run a lot of cameras, how often you check them is situational...differs with each set, camera memory, battery performance etc. and how often you can intrude on a spot you're watching.

There's a lot in the archives on this subject and others will give you some good info...now go retrieve those pictures and post them up :bouncy: :D

Ive been waiting two weeks, but the buck I want is on it so I dont wanna be in the area too much. I would at least wait 7 days for the first check.

I have been told it all...really depends were at. Once a week in the back yard, just because they don't get bothered as much when I go back there because i all ways used to back there doing something..so I think it don't matter to much there..Other spots I'll wait 1-2 weeks the best it places that are a little far so I can wait a little lol

wow u guys go in way to much into your hunting areas! once every 4 weeks to a month is the way to go keep the pressure down. unless of course your cam won't last that long ;)

Thanks for the info. Mine are all on corn field edges pretty close to family members houses. So I think I will fight the urge and wait a week. The first two I put up I had 60 pics of deer/coyote/fox/pheasant and turks. I also had about 200 of nothing but swaying corn. The battery life is doing pretty well. I am getting pretty hooked on cams and I think my Dad is getting the itch. He doesn't hunt anymore but enjoys everything else outdoors.

i agree with yeley you should wait at least a month unless it's on the back of your garage pointing to your feeder.....that is if your batteries & storage can last that long.

I think the trick to it is to not go into areas where you are going to bump deer. I never hang cameras in bedding areas as a personal rule. I try to be as minimally invasive as possible. Creek crossings, field edges, trail intersections, scrapes, places like that where I can easily get to my camera without spooking deer is what I try to set up cameras on. Knowing where they are going is usually harder to figure out than where they are coming from, and I feel like if I know where deer are headed I have a great chance to intercept them.

If you are going to have a camera set on a mineral lick or trail that you want to stay away from, a wireless camera system makes perfect sense and is a great option. However, if your camera is on a feeder or bait pile you have to visit every week or two to replenish, it is not much of an advantage because you have to go back anyway. Plus I like to move my cameras around a lot and tweak locations. If you're going to be moving cameras around or filling feeders or visiting the sites in any way, it is more sensible to use a standard camera system, in my humble opinion.

It depends on the area but regarless of how long it has been you always have to be concious of scent control. We wear our Elimitrax, wear rubber gloves around the camera, and always spray down. We treat it just like a hunt!
