Does anybody ever carry a good zoom camera to their stand to take pictures of the deer they see throughout the season? I have been looking at buying a better digital camera to carry with me, but would like some imput from those who have actually tried to take pictures of deer while on stand. I tried one time with my old cheapie nikon(about 5 yrs old), but they were always blurry and i had a hard time following the deer because the camera didn't have a viewfinder you had to look at the little LCD screen while trying to follow the deer. I think the pictures would really be helpful to keep tabs on bucks you have let walk through the season(and those that are too far away to shoot at).

I have taken many photos while hunting and have very good luck with it. I have a Panasonic Lumix camera that performs very well. It is a mid priced digital with 28x and actually to many features for me to use.

I have thought about it but my camera gear bag weighs about 20lbs and I carry enough crap to the woods as it is. :D

I have a Canon Powershot S3 IS that I love. For my first foray into the world of digital cameras, I wanted something a little better than my inexpensive point and shoot 35mm camera and smaller than my old 35mm SLR camera. I wanted it to be small enough to go with me when backpacking. This camera is a little bigger than I truly wanted, but has so many of the features I wanted that I bought it anyway. The 12X optical zoom is nice. Oh and one biggy for me was that it takes regular AA batteries and not some proprietary rechargable like some. This was important to me when backpacking/camping and away from my charger. If the batteries died, I could easily find replacements at any grocery/resupply stop.

There are so many great choices out there. This (http://www.dpreview.com/) website really helped my narrow down what I wanted. http://www.dpreview.com

Happy camera shopping! :)
