no news yet.....:yikes:
this is all I know...their keeping it quiet.......Hmmmmmmmmmmm, not good.....or their keeping USC guesssing;).......
Wells held out of Ohio State practice.... Ohio State tailback Chris "Beanie" Wells did not practice with the second-ranked Buckeyes on Monday.
Wells, who injured his right foot in Saturday's 43-0 victory over Youngstown State, continued to wear a protective boot on his right foot.
He fell to the turf on a carry at the Penguins 2-yard line in the third quarter. After lying on the field in pain, he was helped off and then carted to the locker room. He returned to the bench to watch the final few minutes before cautiously walking back to the locker room.
X-rays after the game did not show any broken bones.
"He has been diligent in taking as many treatments as possible from our athletic trainers the past two days," Ohio State football information director Shelly Poe said in an e-mail late Monday afternoon. "Other than that, (there is) nothing definitive to report on his diagnosis or prognosis timeline."
So when you hear it...post updates on here......

my guess is that he sits against the bonging bobcats this saturday but he'll play and take it out on some usc players the week after.

Tressel said today that Beanie is questionable/doubtful for Saturday's game. This is good news to me. It could've been worse. Tressel doesn't seem to show much sympathy for Wells (fine with me). He may be looking for some more toughness out of him.

Could it be a tactic......so USC doesn't know who they will face or who to prepare for......or .....is he really, really hurt....Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm:whistle: :D

OSU's Wells says he'll be fine for Trojans
by Doug Lesmerises
Tuesday September 02, 2008, 11:06 PM
Marvin Fong/The Plain Dealer
What seemed far more serious when he was carted off the Ohio Stadium field on Saturday was much less dire on Tuesday, as Chris Wells said he would be ready for Southern California on Sept. 13, and perhaps even the Ohio Bobcats this Saturday.COLUMBUS -- You think you were nervous, Buckeyes fans? Paulette Wells spent the weekend "like a person jumping out of an airplane without a parachute," she said Tuesday night. "I was a nervous wreck."
By the time she was admitting it, the mother of Ohio State running back Chris "Beanie" Wells was better. So was her son.
He walked down the hall at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center Tuesday afternoon walking a bit gingerly, but waving his protective boot over his head at reporters.
With that, on a Tuesday that his coach and teammates spent talking about him, Wells said more than any of them.
You don't wave your boot if you're not going to play against USC. When asked if Wells would be ready in 10 days for the Trojans, the newly crowned No. 1 team in the nation, OSU coach Jim Tressel said, "Yeah."
Breathe, Buckeye Nation.
"Tell them to worry more about Gustav and Rita and those things," Tressel said of hurricanes now and in the past. "Beanie is going to be fine."
Three days of consternation gave way to vague hopefulness during Tressel's regular Tuesday news conference and later interviews with Wells' teammates. Saturday, Wells' third-quarter writhing after falling to the turf and fumbling was hard to forget.
"He said, 'Mom, that pain came so fast and so intense, I dropped the ball,'" Paulette Wells said. "I was scared, he was scared. It's just hard to see your baby, he's all excited about this year and all of a sudden, from nowhere, this happens."
Wells stayed in Columbus while her son was treated, and said coaches told her Sunday that things looked better than they had Saturday. She went home to Akron on Monday night, and after three days of treatment and no practice, there is little doubt being presented by OSU when it comes to the recovery of its Heisman Trophy candidate.
Fullback Brandon Smith said he was in the cold workout pools with Wells on Tuesday and Wells was asking, "How am I walking? How do I look?"
"I think he's feeling good," said Smith, jealous of Wells' air-conditioned rehab while the rest of the Buckeyes practiced on a nearly 100-degree field. "He's just working hard to get back to 100 percent."
Tressel wasn't even ruling Wells out of Saturday's game against Ohio University. Calling him "doubtful" he also mentioned Wells telling him Tuesday morning how wonderful he felt. Tressel said it's possible that Wells could practice Wednesday or Thursday.
"If the guy is dying to play and you don't let him play, all of a sudden there's a little seed of doubt in his mind, in other's minds, of 'I wonder if,'" Tressel said. "So if he's ready, he goes."
"As a mother, I want him to rest," Paulette Wells said. "But knowing how competitive he is, he needs to play. But it's whatever Coach Tressel and Coach [Jim] Bollman say. They have the final call. And Beanie knows his body."
Playing in three days against the Bobcats would be a bonus, but this is about the Buckeyes' cross-country showcase in which the national reputation of the program will be on the line.
"I think any great player wants to compete against the best," tight end Rory Nicol said, "and I'm sure there's nothing more that Chris Wells would like to do than to run out on that field in Los Angeles and rip for 230 yards like he did at Michigan [last year]. That's the type of competitor he is. He wants to be the best against the best, plain and simple."
Whether he can be at his best is the next question. Tressel wasn't much for specifics.
"His foot's hurting," Tressel said, failing in his role as a doctor.
So Ohio State never said exactly what is wrong with Wells, by all indications a soft tissue injury at the front of his right foot or near his big toe. Even Paulette Wells said she hasn't been told for sure of the diagnosis. She missed one call Tuesday and was waiting on another.
So some intrigue remains for the most famous foot "in the whole United States," as Paulette Wells said. "I'm just glad he's got fans like that at Ohio State. They love him."
With USC on a bye week, the Los Angeles radio affiliate that carries the Trojans' games, ESPN 710, is running a Beanie Watch these days. There's no reason to expect that USC won't watch him live on Sept. 13.
"They thought, 'He's out, we've got this game,'" Paulette Wells said. "But it's not just Beanie. We've got the whole team. But he'll be there."

I don't see him being ready to go - I watched him go down, I watched him wither around in pain. He couldn't even step on it until he got back from the X-ray and it was all he could do to limp in that boot.
Call me a skeptic, but I think it is more serious than we all want it to be. It will all come out at some point, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a diminished Beanie for 2008. I don't care how tough you are, you simply can't run well with a serious injury to that toe. If it is that serious, it will plaugue him all season and he won't be anything close to 100%.
I hope I am wrong and he is ok. We've all seen a guy that couldn't stand on Saturday out running shuttle runs mid week following treatments. Hopefully it is nothing more than some soft tissue bruising and he will be back near 100% for USC - I just honestly don't believe this to be the case here. If he plays against USC it won't be at 100%, but I guess Beanie at 75% is better than most guys at the college level.

OHIO STATE FOOTBALL
Mom’s injury report: It’s Wells’ toe
She says running back plans on playing Saturday
Wednesday, September 03, 2008
Ken Gordon
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Ohio State running back Chris “Beanie” Wells has a toe injury — but not turf toe — and has every intention of playing against Ohio University on Saturday.
So says Wells’ mother, Paulette. That’s about the clearest report yet on Wells’ status, which isn’t saying much.
Coach Jim Tressel spent a good portion of his news conference playing rope-adope with the media, avoiding definitive answers and claiming he had no idea what Wells’ injury was.
“His foot’s hurting,” Tressel said.
Wells has not been made available to reporters since suffering the injury Saturday against Youngstown State. It appeared serious at first, based on how quickly Wells dropped to the ground, cried out and grabbed his right foot.
He has not practiced the past two days, but “he’s feeling good, he’s not down,” his mom said.
Yesterday, Wells emerged from a meeting room in the team’s practice facility and walked down a hallway without a noticeable limp. He held his protective boot in his hands, waving at reporters and smiling.
Tressel called him doubtful for Saturday’s game, which comes a week before a showdown at Southern California. He said every time Wells has seen the trainers the past few days, “he seems better.”
Paulette Wells said her son is “very optimistic” about playing Saturday.
“You know him,” she said. “He doesn’t want to sit for a week and be rusty (for USC).”
Beanie Wells’ mind-set apparently will factor into the decision on whether he plays this week. The Buckeyes are 35-point favorites, and they likely don’t need to risk rushing their star back.
The tailback trio of Dan Herron, Brandon Saine and Maurice Wells — along with scrambling backup quarterback Terrelle Pryor — could probably fare just fine against a Bobcats team that gave up 160 rushing yards to Wyoming in its opener.
But Tressel and some of Wells’ teammates said if he’s medically cleared to play, he should.
“Would we make a flat-out decision as to play or not play simply on what lies ahead a week from now? No,” Tressel said. “Because you might … if all of a sudden, the guy is dying to play and you don’t let him play, there’s a little seed of doubt in his mind, in others’ minds, ‘Oh, I wonder if …’
“So if he’s ready, he goes.”
Linebacker Marcus Freeman said, “I would ask Beanie, ‘How do you feel?’ and if Beanie seriously felt that he could go out there and play, and he really wanted to play, I would let him.”
On the other hand, Wells might want to make sure he’s 100 percent for USC. That’s the marquee nonconference game of the 2008 season, nationally televised in prime time.
Sitting out this week might be the wisest move.
“I’m sure that’s probably something in the back of his mind,” tight end Rory Nicol said. “I think any great player wants to compete against the best, and I’m sure there’s nothing more Chris Wells would like to do than to run out on that field in L.A. and rip for 230 yards like he did up at Michigan (last year).
“That’s the type of competitor he is — he wants to be the best against the best.”
One thing now seems clear, at least — this is not a severe injury. It’s merely a question of whether to rest him for a week. That should calm the fears of Ohio State fans, who have appeared ready to fling themselves off a ledge for days.
“Tell them to worry more about (hurricanes) Gustav and Rita and those kinds of things,” Tressel said. “Beanie’s going to be fine.”

I've read that article and all the other public/insider articles. I stand by the thought that I won't feel ok until I see him take the field and make some moves. The big toe controls everything you do with your footwork and medical science tells us it must be able to withstand 4-5 times your body weight to perform at 100%. That is a half ton when we are talking Beanie.
I mean it when I say this, but I am mostly concerned for Beanie here. He is a very tough kid and I think he would give it a go missing a foot. I know the staff keeps this in mind with evaluations on injuries & I hope Beanie doesn't rush himself back on the field in an effort to help the team. You don't get better losing Beanie no matter who you are, but it is a team game. If he isn't at close to 100% I would sit him for his own good.
I have some limited connections inside the program and all I will say is that this issue has been locked up as tight as Fort Knox. If the players/student coaches know anything of fact related to his injury, they aren't talking. All they will admit is that it is his big toe and he is doing better each day.
Hopefully we see Beanie carry it Sat against the Bobcats and look like he is back. If not - hopefully he makes a full recovery as fast as possible.

Who cares what the "doctors" think, I want to hear Shawne Merriman's opinion.
I am a huge OSU fan, but I will say it...no Beanie vs. USC, no chance for OSU.

I just received some indirect information from a source close to the team. He is reporting to me that Rory Nicol told him yesterday Beanie had simply dislocated his "big" toe. The toe had to be popped back in and it was very painful - the swelling is gone and the pain is diminishing each day.
I actually am buying this story line for now - I noticed in the close up picture of Beanie after the game that his toe looked like it was turned at a severe angle (indicating a dislocation or break).
If this is the case, Beanie should be ready to play Saturday - though not full go, I would think close. And at USC he should be close to 100%.
If this is the case I can't imagine Beanie won't tote the rock at least 3-5 carries against Ohio just so he can get hit. Probably will be told to not do anything special - run it up field.

that is definately the truth!
i had an appointment at osu sports medicine today(shoulder injury) and my doctor and i always talk football and he's usually pretty up front with his opinions but when i asked him if he had any news about it all he did was smile and say "it could be a week or it could be a year but i think we'll be fine against usc".
i'm sticking with my prediction that he sits this week out but comes back big against usc.besides the sports medicine hospital i stopped in a couple of other places on campus today and the "beanie situation" was definately the main talk!
the usc game just might end up being than the n.c. game.

He should sit this week just to be careful. Although that Heisman trophy will make you ignore the obvious sometimes. As far as not allowing someone to put up 21. I could see OSU's starter's not allowing it in Big 10 play, but USC is absolutely loaded. Remember the name Ronald Johnson (ROJO). He is absolutely an electric player at WR and on special teams. He is my pick to win the Heisman is 2009.

JT just confirmed on his call in show that Beanie will watch the game form the sidelines this week and that Dan Herron will get the start @ TB. He expects all 3 TBs to contribute Vs. Ohio and plans to use Saine and Mo Wells along with Boom.
If we can't get 4-5 yards per run on Ohio we are not playing well. They are very undersized - the middle LB is 217lbs! We should have our way in the trenches and when the TB breaks past the line it should get interesting. I'm not nocking OU; I think they have a great coach and their guys are pretty fast, but they are going to be severely overmatched physically in this game.

Ohio State football: Jim Tressel says Beanie Wells out for Saturday
by Doug Lesmerises Thursday September 04, 2008, 12:08 PM
Beanie WellsRunning back Beanie Wells will not play against Ohio on Saturday, Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel said on his radio show today.
Tressel said Wells is progressing with his rehab but has not practiced, so therefore he will not play. Wells is expected to return for the Sept. 13 game at No. 1 Southern Cal.
On Wednesday, Wells did attend team meetings and riding an exercise bike on the side during practice.
Tressel said this week the injury on the pad of his right foot at the base of his big toe. Tressel also said he did not know the medical diagnosis.
"You can make it worse if you make the pain worse," Tressel said this week. "And that's a limiting factor in his ability to participate and function really well," Tressel said. "You do have the concern about further injury, whether it's soft tissue or whatever it is, because there's a point, no matter how tough he is, that's his bread and butter, to put his foot on the ground and run."
Tressel said Wells was in and out of his protective boot, and he hoped his player was following protocol.
"I would just as soon have him in the boot all time," Tressel said, "because that is going to take as much pressure off as possible."

I talked to the gentleman that cleans the ductwork at the practice facility. He says the other day he was cleaning the ductwork above the restroom where Beanie was pooping. He said it was like a trainwreck, very messy, but he had to look. Anyhow, he said Beanie isn't just your run of the mill wiper. He doesn't just wad the paper in his hand, he slowly and neatly folds the creases before hand and actually double wiped to be courteous to guys in the pile. He said the crap he took was definitely Heisman Worthy.:p

Ohio State football: One Wells out, another Wells in
Mo Wells, seen last year against Northwestern, will start in place of Beanie Wells against Ohio on Saturday.
Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said today that starting running back Beanie Wills will not play against Ohio University while recovering from an injury at the base of his right big toe and senior Mo Wells will start in his place.
"I feel good about his progress, but it wasn't enough to practice," Tressel said of Beanie Wells. "And I think there's a little bit of a risk when you don't practice, not just in the injury department but in the execution department."
Tressel said again that Wells should be ready for USC next week and he's not worried that Wells could miss that game.
"Not at all, not at all," Tressel said. "It's easy to say that today, but I feel good about his progress."
The move to start Mo Wells is in many ways symbolic, since Wells, Dan Herron and Brandon Saine are expected to share the load in the backfield and the coaches would like to get each of them a dozen carries.
It's also a reward for a senior backup who has played in 36 games, rushed for 769 yards and never started before. And Wells looked good last week, rushing for 32 yards on five carries while running through more tackles than he usually does.
"He kept his shoulders square and broke some tackles and seemed healthy," Tressel said today.
Wells had missed some time during the preseason with a stomach flu and a back injury.
"I feel I ran the ball pretty decent," Wells said. "I may might not break 10 tackles on the play, but I may make a guy miss here or there."
There's no doubt the Buckeyes will notice the absence of Beanie Wells. But they would miss him a lot more against the Trojans
