Ok, so I will be using a crossbow for the 1st time this year (and it's only my 2nd year hunting). I want your opinions on the equipment. I have the option of using two different setups. Just give me your opinions.

1) The first is simply using solid Aluminum bolts with a 125 grian 3-blade broadhead...nothing special.

2) The second is using carbon-fiber bolts with 85 grain Eastman "Silver-Strike" 3-blade expandable blade broadheads.

I am really partial to #2 to be honest. I think it will fly straighter and true to the target. Although I am not totally sure on the performance of a 85grain on a crossbow bolt. Would this make a difference or really be a issue? Or is either setup worth it / functional?

You forgot to tell us what kind of bow you are shooting.

With that excluded I'd hedge the guess and say: go with the 2219 aluminum tipped with Wasp JackHammer 125 or 2 blade Rage. You won't be disappointed. Sight your bow in with 125 grain field points and before you go hunting exchange them out for your broadheads. Both fly the same.

I am shooting a Horton 150 (normal no-frills crossbow). Would the 85-grain expandables work? Or are 85gr too light?

85 is too light. Go with my recomendation and you'll be all set. 2219 aluminum and 125 grain broadhead will be your key. Best of luck.

I went with everyone's suggestion. I went with 2219 Aluminum Bolts and 3-blade 125gr broadheads. It looks fierce...lol

Good job. If you have the "dial a range" function, set it on #2 at 20 yards.

I use 2219's w/ 100 grain Grim Reapers. I don't think you can wrong with aluminum's. They are time tested and do not cost as much if you loose a bolt!

I do have that function. if I set it at 20yrds at #2, does #3 mean 30yrds or something?...lol
