Hey guys! Looks like some familiar faces here. Randy(tucky) and Ryan(Red), my good warreye fishin brethren from the NW, I hope you guys are ready to rock. I am very excited for this upcoming season.

Anybody got any ideas for a team name? Let's hear em.

Kyle

I have no ideas at the moment, but let me get through a couple meetings this morning and I'll get to thinking. Looks like we have a pretty good team.

Good to have you aboard Wayne. My name is Kyle and I am from Marion, but I live in Delaware county now and mostly hunt Delaware county and a farm up in Crawford county. I am vaguely familar with your area. A friend while growing up had some relatives lived over by Genaddenhutten and such. I think his grandmother used to own a bar over there. Nice area!

Hi team ! this is Gunners/Jeff checking in. Looks like a great start with good people. I live south of Dayton and have 120 acres to myself to hunt this year. Hope to have some pictures to share soon of whats available to harvest. Last year I shot a doe in the contest and the buck I got was using a muzzleloader so it didnt count towards the team. I'll give it hell with the bow this year getting started sooner since I've been working the property all summer.
Team Names:
Wall Hangers,
Just In The Rut Of Time,
Tines R Us,
Buck Baggers

Just checking in here fellas. I can't believe I ended up with Tucky and CG:yikes: Should actually be a pretty good year. Last year I put up a 9 point and 2 slickheads for my team (HooDoo). I hunt in SW Hancock County and some in Southern Wood County where I'm originally from. I have 4 stands up now with 3 more to go. I reported earlier on some threads that this year I have spotted a ton of good bucks, so my expectations are very high for myself. I try to think up some names.

Chuck 'N' Bucks (In Honor of Chuck Norris)
Drop Tine Dudes
Bows and Does

swantucky
08-26-2008, 08:08 PM
I like the Chuck Norris theme Redhunter:bouncy: I gotta think how to work that into a team name and how to come up with some "Chuck Facts" regarding deer hunting. If this was a river walleye team the rest of the guys might as well burn their rods in the campfire.

Welcome to the team Todd. Looks like everyone checked in.

We have a lot of names suggested and it's kind of a long list to vote from. I will propose that we each nominate our 2 favorite names that we came up with for a vote. Then, once we have that list, we will vote. If you don't want to submit a name, then that is fine but please vote so we can get a consensus. Seems like a good way to do it to me.

My name nominations for vote will be:

Lung Slashers
Big Buck Brigade

Ok team, it looks like we have all the options in the kiddy. I will take 1 out as we don't want a team name that could have dual meaning and be offensive to someone. So our short list is:

Backstrap Boys

Droptine Dudes

Chucks Bucks

Buck Baggers

Lung Slashers

Big Buck Brigade

From this list we will all need to vote for 1 name. If we don't get a clear cut winner from this vote, we will go to Plan B. Hopefully, this will do it.

Red, my apologies. It is force of habit to naturally think OSU when I am referring to beating MI. Since this has nothing to do with the state's schools or football programs I mis-spoke. We need a representative for Ohio in the Ohio vs Michigan contest.

I nominate you Redhunter. You always get a buck, have a lot of time to chase them and have some great property with excellent trophy potential.

Also, I deleted the other 2 design pics and I am going with Jeff's Bag em & Tag em design. Looks great. If you want, you can copy the URL from the Properties and add it to your signature line by clicking the little icon for insert pics and then paste the URL. If you need more detailed description of how to do then send me a pm.

No problem guys. Anything special I have to do other than kill a monster? I am seriously pumped about this years potential. Not sure what team Deerfire is on, but he hunts alot of the same ground I do and definitely has as good a chance as I at getting a Big Boy. Meeting him in a few minutes to go scouting. I'll be setting my last 2 stands this weekend. 1 is going to be set with 1 deer in mind that should be a Booner atleast. I wish I had a long range camera so you guys could see a pic. I got that same numbing feeling the 1st time I seen him that I did when I seen Deerfire's 200" buck in velvet a few years back.

CritterGitter
09-04-2008, 09:41 AM
Red that sounds awesome. You don't have to do anything special. The rules are the same, it's just that the doe and buck you harvest will contribute to the OH vs MI contest. They put up 25 guys and we put up 25 guys.

Good luck with that monster. I went scouting the other day and found a promising new spot. I don't have a big boy located, but I always seem to get a look at one biggun every fall. We'll see how it plays out this year.

I can't get onto my bowhunting property untill next weekend. I did see one decent shooter a couple weeks ago, he would score maybe mid 120's. I'll do some more looking but that might be the best the property has to offer. I'll kill my couple does for team score most likely.

last nite my buddy Mark and I were cruising around some property we hunt and seen a group of 6 bucks right before dark. They were moving along a treeline right where he was just telling me he wanted to put a stand. I know it sounds like I'm full of it, but the biggest deer there would gross into the 150's. He was a main frame 10, and maybe was trying to be an 11 point. What really caught my eye was the incredible tine length he had throughout his G2's and G3's. Nice brow tines as well. Oh, he had beautiful, pearl white rack already. 2 of the others were 120" 8 and 9 pointers. The rest all appeared to be 2 1/2 year olds.

I saw alot more sighn this weekend. tons of trails running into my home made feeders. they were tearing it up. Saw two doe making there way to the feeders tocheck on them. The problem is the property next to me has a clover food plot right on the property line. So it makes it a little hard for me to see deer sometimes cause they are over there. But I will be thanking him later in the year im sure. I'll probably be waving at him somemorning cause ill be hunting my property line too hahahahahahaha

Finally set my last stand yesterday. Put it where the big boy is. I'm set up along the creek bottom where there is a shalllow farmer crossing. It's overlooking a cornfield in front of me with 3 trails converging about 17 yards away. There is a nasty little 1 acre thicket about 75 yards to my left that I know he is using. There is a 30 yards wide strip of tall CRP grass that seperates the corn from the creek dirctly behind me across the creek that I have shots to. I'm absolutely stoked about this spot.:bouncy:

Part of my backcover for late season blew down but other than that all is well. I have one more recon trip planned for this weekend then I will be ready. I have only seen one decent buck around but word has it there is another I have not seen thats bigger. There is a doe that has to be 6-7 years old, a white doe I saw this spring, and any buck close to 130" and I'll drop the string early, otherwise I'll just watch and take some pics.

Sorry to hear that Gunners. I will get out this weekend for to hang a couple stands. Kind of glad I didnt hang them prior to the wind storm. I hope my early season climber set ups are still in place. I'll do some quick, light/low impact snoopin around when I am hangin stands this weekend. Hung a couple more stands this weekend that we had laying around. Just got back from scouting the countryside where we hunt. Seen about a dozen does and fawns, a few 2 1/2 year old bucks, and 2 Hawgs. 1 was a buck we call "curly" because all his tines curl in at the top. He's a nice 9 point that will go maybe 130". The other was a super tall 8 point that is new to us. His right G-2 goes uo about 8" then points straight in another 6". Looks like it musta got broken in velvet.

I coulted like 15 last time I was there. last year at night I drove by the corn field and there was about thirty deer just hanging out. So I know there is alot. I cant wait to set up on my spot thats right byt the corner of the woods. where it meets two fields anda creek runs to it. I think that is where I am going to sees ome action.

hey guys just wanted to drop in and say hello. Iam pumped for this weekend. I keep looking at my eight point shed I found this pring and its making me anxious. I has two small spikes coming up right at the bottom so I think this year he will bea ten for sure. if they didnt count already. I hope I get to see him. Oldhat has been helping me out alot on where I need to be and giving me adive. I hope it works out. Good luck to you all and I look forward to reading the posts on here monday morning.
Oldfart would most likely have you set up on the third hole at Green County Golf Course, reports have it he shanked his third shot at the par three hitting the buck he entered in last years contest. Weapon of choice was a sand wedge. The buck and his golf score were the same, something like 95!

Well couldnt wait for Saturday so I did a drive buy to New Paris Ohio and the 300 acres. Half is a apple orchard, thus the why he wants them taken out. The rest hard woods, beans, small pond. Turns out the guy let someone come in during gun season and scraed his wife half to death, He showed up with 14 hunters doing a deer drive. No more guns! So will give it hell on Saturday and see what happens. Good luck team and be safe.

Chalk up one for the good guys! I took a big, mature doe at 8:30 am. Seen 9 deer in all. 1 nice buck, 3 smaller bucks, 2 does and 3 fawns. Got a little lucky. The deer was a little spooked by something and I had to stop her and I nicked a small limb and severed her jugular. Oh well. I'll post some pics after I tag her in:)

I really was not planning on shooting a bb. The spot I hunted has few shooting lanes. I did not see a single deer untill about 7:20 and then had a group move in. They were walking all around under my stand munching acorns. For the most part I could just see parts and pieces of the deer walking in and out of my shooting lane. The one I shot stopped in the lane about 7:35 and I let it fly.

I've had some interesting hunts the past week. Tonight, I was finally able to get into my stand again that is set for the big guy. As soon as I climbed up I noticed 2 different trees that were torn up since last Saturday. I got in at 5:00 and had 2 does and a fawn under me by 5:30. They hung around for about 1/2 hour. Then around 6:30 I looked left in the creek bottom and see a 1.5 year old 8 point. He was drinking and moving away from me. I decided to Grunt at him and see what happened. It didn't take long for him to wheel around and come my way. I had him withing 5 yards of the tree as well. The bad thing was tody was the first time I forgot my digital. I did get pics of all the deer with my phone. Oh, I promise to get my pics up of my doe i got saturday. BTW, by buddy and his boy have been scoring big time on some stand I helped set up for them. They both took does the previous 2 nights, and tonight the boy got his first bow kill buck. A decent 2.5 year old 7 point.

WARNING:This will be long winded.

I live about a 1/2 mile from a large metropark on just over 6 acres, 3 acres are yard and pond the rest pretty open oak woods. The rest of the homes on my street are set up the same way. In the almost 11 years I have lived here I have killed 3 does and a 10 point. I have passed a few buttons and smaller bucks over the years. The deer pass through mostly at night due to the amount of hunting pressure in the area. In addition my neighbor on the backside of me is fairly well known for breaking the rules. He is also mormally layed off from work in the fall and hunts no matter the wind morning and evening and from what I have seen into the night. Don't worry the DNR has opened a file on him thanks to your truly, I'll get him.

Anyway for a little more background my oldest son lives back there for most of the summer with his campfires, forts, 4-wheeler, and just general adventure a 12 year old boy will do. I have a feeder in the backyard that normally only sees action at night but I try to keep it stocked. Probably a month or so my son Hunter and I started dumping a bucket of apples out by our ground blind about every other day. My hope was for him to maybe get a chance at a doe durning youth season.

So last week before the season opened I walked back with my bucket about 7pm and jumped 2 deer out. Gave me a little hope we might get something back there this year since it has been 3 years since I have taken anything.

So Monday i took the kids to soccer and and planned on Tuesday getting Hunter(my son) set up with his new crossbow. Well at the last minute he had a soccer game and the wife and kids would be gone. I had set up with a buddy to drop off some sweetcorn so I could not hunt my other spot. About 6pm I had my crap taken care of and was debating going out back to sit in my stand.

By the time I got a shower and my gear together it was 6:45. I wandered back to my stand and got settled in. I really did not have high hopes of seeing anything, just spend some time in MY woods and relax. I checked the time and decided screw it although it is 6:59 I'll lean back in my stand and have a cigarette. I carry a ziploc to ash in and put my butt in. I had just finished my smoke and had the baggie on my lap when I spotted movement headed my way.

I slowly put my ash bag on my backpack. They were on me quick. Initially I thought it was a doe with a fawn in tow. Then I could see antlers on the lead deer. My first thought was why does this buck have a "fawn" following it?? They were at 20 yards and the "fawn" was a 1.5 year old 6 point!! That is how much larger the lead deer was. He finally cleared the brush and I could see 4 up with smaller brow tines. The rack looked strange...thats when I realized he had split main beams. I was so busy trying to judge him I was almost flatfooted for the shot. I thought to myself man hes a ten and an easy "20" wide who cares what he will score get yourself ready for the shot.

I slowly stood and phone started vibrating ***!! He put his head down but I had a small limb in the way to possibly block a perfect gimme shot. I was able to get myself calmed down while I waited for him to get into the clear of the limb. He stepped forward and was alert listening to a dog bark. I waited till he calmed back down and dropped his head. I drew and shot thinking this deer was MINE!!

I still am not exactly sure what happened, I watched in horror as the arrow went high and went above the spine in that small part of meat. I don't know if he jumped the string or I lifted the shot. The arrow just pieced the skin above the spine and off he went in a big fugging hurry. I just stood there not believing what had just happened. I am not sure what I wanted to do more, cry or puke. I was in a daze.

I climbed down dejected and headed to the house. I put my gear up and had a couple beers. I decided I better at least go and look to see if what I saw really happened. I knew where he crossed the trail so I started there. I could see where he torn up the ground but no blood. I followed scuffed up leaves for maybe 30 yards and could find nothing more. I decided with a horrible hit I should just stop and try to see what I could find in the morning.

I had a meeting I could not miss at 7am so i would have to wait untill noon to get out of work and see what I could find.

Should I share the details of my afternoon tracking???

Please share...!!!!

swantucky
10-03-2008, 10:01 PM
Well I'm going to share like it or not.:)

I finally escaped from work about 12:30. I was pretty sure I would not find the deer or any sign but I owed it to the deer to at least make sure. I was sick for making such a bad shot on such a great animal.

I began where I left off and could not find any more sign. The deer I have shot in the past have all headed to the east so I began making circles to the east. Now I know I am tresspassing per say but every neighbor I have ever talked to has said if you are tracking a deer go ahead on my property. Any way I circled up to the houses to the east and walked a dry creek bed and could not see in the dirt where any deer of this size had crossed.

Based on the way the deer ran the only way the deer could have gone was to the north. I began my zigzag cirle pattern heading that way. Well after much back on forth I finally found a large set of tracks on a faint trail. I figured they had to be his. I followed them and found a spot of blood. Then another and another. I was able to follow for maybe 20 yards and then lost it. The spots were maybe the size of a pencil eraser and spaced about 5' apart.

I began the circle gig agian and picked up a spot of blood maybe 40 yards from where I lost it. I was able to follow the blood for about 35 yards and lost it agian. Circles helped me find it agian about 75 yards away and could follow it for 10 yards. Lost it agian and just kept looking. The next spot I found was 150 yards from where I lost it. I only found enough spots to follow for maybe 3 steps. Agian I began 1/2 circles and finally found 2 more spots of blood 200 yards from where I lost it. I looked and looked and could not find any other sign. I believe if you had all of the blood I found it may amount to one sip of beer.

I finally gave up with the realization that this deer was going to live and there was nothing else I could do. I headed home to take the kids to soccer. Since I had headed due north on the deer's trail and that was the way I was headed i set the trip on my van. As the crow flies from my driveway I tracked the deer 4 tenths of a mile. I am satisfied I did all I could, if he was dead I would have found him.

Well there you go.

swantucky
10-03-2008, 10:07 PM
One more thing to add. Anyone who does not hunt this area of the state does not realize how intense the hunting pressure is. While I was tracking I would guess I saw a minimum of 12 stands and it was probably closer to 20. It is amazing a deer could get to this size with the gaunlet the have to run. I saw corn, apples, ground blinds, box stands, you name it. I really feel lucky to even have had a chance at this deer.

I try and track every deer like it is my last. A few years ago I one lunged a doe up north and tracked on hands and knees for almost 3 hours. I found her. My Dad was with me and said " I'm worn out just watching you crawl through that chit".

I'm trying to get saddled back up but its going to be tough to shoot another buck. I doubt I see anything nicer or more unique this year or next.

I feel your pain...several years ago now I had a similar hit on a beautiful 10 pt that I judged was at least 150.

You went the extra mile and did everything you could to recover the deer (as I did)...I also know your feelings about loosing an arrow on another buck...What do you do? It's tough man, that day ruined my whole season.

I can relate. I pulled the shot on a trotting buck in 2006 and hit him in the rump. My buddy saw the buck and referred to it as a magazine buck. I asked what he meant and he said, if I would have slayed that buck I would have wound up on the cover of a magazine. I don't know about that. I have lost 2 deer and both were bucks and it sucks! This is bowhunting and it is bound to happen. Chit happens and I know it's hard to get back on stand, but look at the bright side. The pre-rut will kick in here in about 3 to 4 weeks!

Been a little quiet fellas. I have been getting out 3-4 times a week without too much luck. On the good side I had a great hunt Sunday evening over a waterhole. I two groups of does and fawns come in and the fawns were running through the water chasing each other like a bunch of little kids. It was an hour of them running around like they were nuts through the shallow pond. I sure wish I could have gotten some of it on video. It made for a great hunt. I finally saw a buck last night, a wide 1.5 year old 6 point so thats a start. I'm going to hang a couple more stands and keep on getting out as much as I can before the time change.

I almost let an arrow fly on a 3.5 year old 8 point tonight. I was on stand and had a small 6 point come through at about 6:45. He got nervous when he smelled the dominant buck urine I put out. It got pretty dark in there by 7pm so I got out and walked down the opposite way and seen that smaller buck and a larger one across the field next to the adjacent woods. I had plenty of cover and time so I hurried down to cut them off. I crouched in a lane at full draw as they cut through the corner of the woods right across in front of me. They never even seen me at 15 yards. He was maybe a 120" deer. I just let them both walk and I got out of there. He'll make somebody a nice trophy, maybe me next year. I totally recomend to anybody in the market for new camo to atleast give thought to 3-D leafy style. I honestly have never had a deer pick me out since I have owned thse. Mine also are Scent-Lok, but they are absolutely a must for me the rest of my hunting days. Just don't wear them near briars or you'll have to take up needle and thread as I have had to.

I've been under the weather a little the past few days. I decided to give it a try this morning knowing deer movement would be good. I got in stand a little late at 7 a.m. Hadn't hunted this stand for a couple weeks and when I got in there was a branch right in the way that I had to wrap around the tree, making a little noise. That noise drew in 2 small 1.5 year old bucks right under my stand. One's tail actually kept flicking my ladder. After awhile they moved off and I decided to climb out early. I hope I feel up to going out tonight. The buck movement is picking up a good bit around here. Anybody else seeing any?

1. On a ridge that over looks a bowl, that runs into a dry creek bed. its like two ridges that come together and it ends in the creek bed. on top is where I shot my doe. lots of downed trees, oaks, etc.

2. in the corner of the woods that butts up to corn thats right by the creek

3. in the middle of a bowl that is close by a clover plot and huge piles of corn.

I'm bummed. Last night on stand I seen a deer come running along a ditch from the corner of a corn field about 400 yards off. All of a sudden I see a coyote running along the other side trying to get it. I watched the coyote keep jumping in and out of the ditch trying to ambush it. Finally the deer just jumps the ditch and books it across the field and stops 50 yards from me in front of the thicket and corn I'm set up over. The i see this big a$$ coyote come right over towards it and the small buck goes into the thicket. I start squeeling with my lips and the coyote comes on a string to me. But once he made it to the corn I honestly couldn't find him until he was right in front of me. I drew and he seen me and got nervous. I had a 6" hole at 20 yards to shoot through at his head and I rushed and shot over him by an inch. I bet he has a new haircut. I definitely woulda had a tanned hide.

I graduated in to a real bow hunter! lol
I had a great time learning and practising with a new compound. I had already told myself I would not shoot at anything above 25 yards because that was my comfort zone. In this case I was in a ground blind and he walked within 20 feet of me. It would have been harder to miss then hit him. Keep the head up, as you can see things do get better.

I shot a nice doe to add to our tally yesterday. Hopefully rjolenic will post the pice today. I never posted the buttonhead I killed opening weekend so if I don't kill a buck we can add that one later.

Yes, I am disappointed with the broken tines, but happy with the deer overall. I am just busting your chops a little ..... ;)

Where are you going to hunt tonight?

Wait a minute. How many deer can each person enter? I thought only 2. I've got 2 other slickheads we can get points from. I was holding them back just in case I didn't get to enter a buck.

Just 2. I never entered the buttonhead. I am holding that one back in case I don't get a buck also.

My buddy shot an 8 point this morning...I can't wait to get out this afternoon:bouncy:

I was stalking along the edge of a thin section of woods tonight and stalked up on a bedded Button buck. I kneelded and watched him for a few minutes before I stood and walked to him. He finally jumped up and naturally stopped in the wide open about 25 yards away and looked at me before SLOWLY walking away:) Seen nothing after that.

Nothing on the ground. :irked:

I aint throwin in the towel, but this has been an extraordinarily frustrating season to say the least. I have not even seen a shooter off in the distance or anything, and I have not had a doe in range except for opening day. A whole week of vacation and all I had in front of me was scrub rack bucks.

Not trying to rub it in Kyle but I killed another doe tonight:) I just could not resist. But I screwed up on the way to help me get her out my buddy Ray drove by the stand he wanted me to hunt and saw a P&Y buck under the stand:nono:  :nono:  I'll be in that stand tomorrow:yikes:

Congratulations on the doe Tucky. Could be Ray was just tellin a tale. :mischeif:

I even had one night on vacation where my buddy shot a doe, it crashed into a thicket about 60 yards up. He gets down to go make sure she is down and begin gettin her out and he bumps another mature doe and a nice big buck and they go flying. All the while, he was never more than 100 yards away from me and I never saw a deer that evening? Go figure?

The good thing about deer hunting is that your luck can turn around in about 30 seconds. I'll be out there Sunday(don't forget to wear blaze orange this weekend).

I only had does come through. Took my son out this morning and he saw two does but could not get a shot. My middle daughter is having her b-day party today so I have to entertain fifteen 11 year old girls all afternoon and evening. My buddy is taking my son out at two to a pretty good farm. He is taking him to a hot spot. They are going to hunt a fence row that is where a standing sweet corn, picked field corn, and unpicked bean feild come together.

Haven't been out since Sunday. I was hoping to go into my public land spot this afternoon and pull the stand before the craziness that will ensue on Monday. Not looking like I'll get to though. I am hunting a private farm in Crawford county on Monday and a private farm in Coshocton county on Saturday. If I knock a deer down on Monday, I may take the bow into the state park(bow only) Satuday. That strategy produced my last big buck. We'll just have to see how it goes.

I've been hunting hard for a big buck every day. This morning I finally decided to sleep in and grind up a bunch of burger that I been putting off. Well, my buddy Dan calls me at 8:30 and asks me why I'm not shooting the big 8 point that's standing 15 yards behind treestand with 5 does. It figures, the 1 stand I've been ignoring has my shooter under it the first morning I don't go out. And to add to it, I was informed last night by my wife's cousins who live down the road that they seen a big buck with some does out there earlier in the day.:irked:

There is only one buck as far as I have seen on my bowhunting property that I will kill. I may only score does for the team, but my boy got one and that makes my season. I'll try and paste his own words.

It was about 4:00 in the afternoon. i was into my satnd around 4:15, my dad had to strap my safety belt to the tree for me (my arms arent long enough to reach around!) and he grabbed his bow, pulled my crossbow back, and wished me good luck and went off to his stand. It wasbout 4:45 when i heard some leaves crunching. I looked over to my right and saw about a dozen turkeys. they waked into the bait, and saw there was no corn just apples they left except for 1 tom he kept pecking at a apple then about 5 minutes later he left. it was then about 5.

I heard some leaves crunching again, but they sounded much different than the turkeys. i turned the safety oof on my bow, and turned the lazer scope on. Then a head appeared. She came walking in she stopped about thirty ways away from my stand. she was not broadside, and she was behind some brush. i was shaking so bad the stand was rattling. i didnt have a face mask on or nothin. She was probably 23 yds away. i thought to myself its a small doe hunter, theres probably a buck following her, ill wait. thats when i thought WHO THE HECK AM I KIDDING!!!!!!!! she was almost perfectly broadside and 23 yds away. THWACK!!! THUMP!! i pulled the trigger. she bucked up her back legs and bolted. I almost dropped my bow when i stood up.

i pulled out my cell fone and dialed my dads number and called him. ''DAD DAD I GOT A DEER!!! DAD I GOT A DEER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IM SO EXCITED HURRY DAD I GOT A DEER HURRY COME OVER HERE!!!!!" I was so excited. This is my first bow kill i mean you have to be excited! So i heard a loud crash, then i saw my dad. it wasnt him hoo made the crash either. so he got me and we went 24 yds away from the stand and looked for my bolt or a blood trail. the bolt was about 5 yds away fromwhere she was standing. It had guts all over it. my dad said to get out of here and go in the mornin to track her.

I was really sad because i just shot a deer and we cant go track her???!!!! so i was up and dressed by 7:30. We messed aroud the house to wait for ray or brian to call. we left around 8:3o. We got to my bolt which we stuck in the ground, and we both walked about 20yds from where that was and i was in some thick stuff and i saw a drop of blood than another, i followedthem for a second and then i found ahuge puddle of blood. I yellled to my dad I GOT BLOOD!! he hollered back me to! so i went out of the thick stuff and found him. there was an even bigger puddle of blood where he was at. so we followed it for about 5-10 minutes. he stopped and ust stood there and i kept going. i felt so proud because he stopped and let me. i was standing on top of a fallen tree and looked down at it, it had a whole bunch of blood on it. ''Dad theres a bunch of blood on this log!" he replide i bet it does. i walked about 2 more feet then looked up. there she was about 15 yds from me laying on the ground dead.

i was so excited i ran up to her and felt really happy to have such a great dad to help me and take me out hunting. brian and ray showed up right before i started to gut her. my dad dropped the knife on the carcass and told me to get busy. all three of them told me where to cut and all that. So im still pretty excited now. oh yeah, it was 5:08 when i shot her!!

Now, i would like to thank... Sean for giving me my awesome crossbow!, Haley Brock for my belt, and the call, Ray and Brian for being there to help!!! And last but definetely not least, my dad forteaching me how to hunt, helping me improve, and for taking me outdoors or hunting,.....or fishing!!!!! thanks dad!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dad is proud!!

Randy, awesome story Buddy! Congrats to you and Hunter:) Been a busy week for myself. I hunted really hard all week. I did it all. Sat in my treestand, pushed, sat, group hunted, went by myself. Tried it all. Only seen 2 bucks I deemed big enough to shoot at. Never had a good chance at either. I did shoot at the 1 but he was about 80 yards and running straight away. I tried the old Texas Heart shot but missed. The other 1 I happened to be pushing and ran the Booner Out that I had been after all bow season. He came down a fence row about 75 yards and let the other deer go ahead of him and watched them get shot:yikes: Then he sees enough and bust's back within 100 yards of me but I hadn't a clue. Everybody that seen him all had the same story to tell: "Red, that was the biggest Fu**ing deer I've ever seen". a few that know inches guessed that he easily surpasses 170". The good thing is I'm sure nobody got him and he's still in the same area:shhh: We hunted in a group of mostly 6-7 people max. We ended up with 7 deer, 3 bucks, 4 does. 2 bucks were small 5 points and the other was a 1.5 year old 11 point. My season was made on Tuesday when my sister in law finally took her first deer, a doe, after 6 years of trying. I sat her where I knew she'd get a close shot and it worked great. Then, thursday we head to Wood County and she smoked a 1.5 year old 11 point in the heart at 75 yards on the run. The deer had been gut shot by somebody else but she didn't care. All I know is I'm so tired and beat up I remind myself of a rut worn buck.

Well, I went to Coshocton county on Saturday of the bonus weekend and I finally saw some deer. I actually had 7 come in on my set up at about 1pm. I think I bumped them and they made a big circle and came up from below me. Anyway, I was able to get a shot off but it didn't work out. I'm still baffled as to why. I almost feel snake bitten with the crappy season I am having. However, I have not given up. I will continue to hunt. Won't get out a lot, but I do plan to get out a few times in January.

Guys, I haven't stunk it up this bad in a long time. I guess we all have our slumps. I haven't been able to hunt much in the late season this year with a toddler at home and the crazy weather. No matter the weather, I'll get out at least once more this Saturday. I'm not real optimistic, but I do hope I can get a doe. If not, that will fuel the fire for next fall.
