Just checking in. Little background about me, I hunt Washington and Athens counties, I shoot a Mathews Outback, and with two kids and shift work I hope to set enough time aside to score one for the team. Looking forward to another great season.

Howdy guys.
My name is Kaleb ( "88"), I hunt tons of private land here in perry county, I am a junior in high school so i have a good bit of time to bowhunt, and i usually bowhunt everyday. if im not hunting i'm either extremely busy or scouting. I also love cars and trucks, or pretty much anything else with an engine. So lets kill some booners.

Steve here from Greene Co. just outside of Dayton. I hunt Greene, Clark, Hocking and Adams counties. I usually bow hunt around the house and gun hunt down in Adams. Lately I have been scoring a buck and a doe or two during gun season, that's why I chose the gun category. Watch, this year I'll finally get a buck with my bow and it won't count:coco: I have been passing up the youngsters waiting for a decent buck to shoot. I have plenty of time to hunt (retired) but am having a hard time finding good places to hunt close to home.
Anyways, if any of my fellow team members are going to the BBBC in Columbus Saturday maybe I'll run into you.

Wildworm Here...
I'm from Buckyrus (Bucyrus) originally. I did 8 years in the Army and I moved back to Ohio in 2004. I currently live in the Polaris area just north of Columbus (about 2.5 minutes from Franklin County), and about 1/4 mile from Crittergitter on Team 7. I hunt up in Bucktown, Delaware, and I will be lookin for some new area's in the Alumn Creek Area this year. I am also game to go out with any of you fellas if you want to set something up!? I am a full time student right now. I am finishing up my free education from the Army and I am starting work on my Masters Degree in Network Management. I have a website that you all can go to if you want to check out my awards and stuff from the Army. www.techwurm.com . Check it out and let me know what you think. Sorry not much huntin stuff on that website...It is more for buisness networking. I plan on doing more Deer hunting this year than I have ever done in a single season! It is game on fellas and I am ready to put some meat on the table.
My vote for team name is..."Brown It's Down"...That is my motto for this season. I would love to max out on the state limit of 7 deer this year!!! I'll be happy with one, but I have to have goals right...so I am aim'n for 7! Good luck Fellas!

3) Deadeye Dudes
4) Buck Bagin' Buckeye Boys

Since you are so close to Columbus you ought to check out the BBBC Banquet this Saturday, it's only $5.00 to get in....

Only thing I'm familiar with out there is buckeye lake & the property i hunt.....being an hour away leaves little time for anything but getting in the woods. The private property I hunt is off of 757.
I lived in Baltimore, OH for 4 years & had pretty good success out there. My focus is always meat first, then head-hunting.
I like 'Brown It's Down' too.

It sounds like our 'young gun' ohiohunter88 has the time and the spots to hunt. He should be able to get a buck & a doe for the team. I can only hope to get a buck during gun season, but it should be no problem shooting two does. I nominate Kaleb as our Michigan/Ohio contest entrant.

That would be pretty sweet, to be a contest on the MS vs OS contest. I do have plenty of time, tagging out on does is easy, tagging a buck i want to shoot is another story.
anyway, here are pics of two of my plots, this first one is oats/wheat, and it has some filling in do to.

I was gonna post in here and tell you guys i made that and to copy it if you want to, but i see you already found it.lol
anyway i made it on photoshop and used photo impression for a little bit of it. I got the backround from google images.
It just takes time, and play around with it, if you want a logo and cant do it PM me and we can work together, but first you need a backround image, even if it has a watermark on it, you can remove it in photoshop.

I can only get down there when my hunting partner is able to go since it is his relatives property. I can't go there without him....We plan on hitting t hard during the rut...

Had a pretty eventful weekend....didn't see anything worth dropping but did see 28 including two six pts, one four pt & the rest does up in columbiana county. I put out the homemade mineral mix & they hit it right away. I set my stand pretty close & got some decent footage with an epic cam....quality not like they advertised so it's getting returned & my sony digital vid is coming back out of retirement. I'll post a link to the vid when i get a sec to upload it.
The bucks back there are normally nocturnal so i'm going to wait til the rutting moon to hit it again. There's a great article on the moon phases in Deer & Deer Hunting I will try to post later too.
Til then, I'll be going back & forth between the Gahanna Urban Deer Program & the Perry property.

Hey Fellas...
I was beating the bush this past weekend. Saw 1 doe...I didn't have a shot, but she walked out in front of Critter Gitter on Team 7. I will not be passing on any opportunities this year as far as does go...you can shoot as many deer in one day now that the law has changed...you just need to temp tag them before you keep on hunting. I have 2 tags so every time I go in I am looking to shoot 2! If any of you fellas want to get in touch with me you can call my house at 614-839-1151 or email me at charleswurm@gmail.com. I won't be on the site much as I am trying to graduate this month as well as getting out in the Deer Woods. I will also be going on a Salmon Charter this weekend. So the plate is pretty full...I got email on my blackberry so that is the best way to get in touch with me. Let me know if any of you all want to hook up for a hunt sometime!
GOOD LUCK
I will chime in once I score!
Peace

Ive been out once this week, tuesday night. I was surrounded in does, and two finally came in close enough for a shot at 30, and it was a sketchy shot, I ended up pulling the shot, and it was a clean miss.
Tonight, I shot my bow to make sure it wasnt it, and it is still on zero, so it had to be me, I also decided to just watch from the roads and not hunt, I spotted a good buck, Threw the spotting scope i would guess a 140-150 10 point, not fure sure tho. I'm gonna get in there early for an evening hunt, and hope he takes the same route.

Somebody take down a doe and get us on the board! I hope one of you bag one this weekend. Let's hear some reports, I'm pulling for you all....
I might get out this week to hunt a little spot close to home (My bow kills won't count because I signed up for gun as weapon of choice)......then I'm off for a smallmouth trip up at Lake S. Clair next weekend:bouncy:

I finally made it out last night to my little spot close to home in Greene Co. After cutting and trimming the honey suckle to get to the base of a big maple situated in the back corner of a bean field I settled in for the evening. This is a place I have not hunted in two years due to having two rotator cuff surgeries back in '06 & '07.
I wasn't expecting to see any deer but, much to my surprise, around 6:40 a doe and a couple yearling's came out into the bean field directly across from me. They nibbled on the beans for about 10 minutes then went across the fence to the pond on the neighbors property.
About 5 minutes later I looked down the bean field toward the well traveled road and noticed a big dark object on the edge of the field. I looked through the binocs and, lo and behold, it was a BIG BUCK with a huge neck and tall tines. :yikes: It appeared that he was an 8-pointer with G2's and G3's at least 10-12 inches long.:yikes: I ranged him about 260 yards away. He fed on the beans for about 5 minutes while keeping his eye on the road. He then slowly lumbered back into the brushy hillside.
This is a place that is hard to hunt. There is hardly a decent tree to put a stand in. The wind usually blows from where I have to park out into the property. If I get a north or east wind I can hunt the spot under the maple tree but the chances of getting a deer in range is pretty slim. I think that I need to getting a decoy and set it up in front of me in the corner of the field. Maybe he or another buck will see it and come over to investigate.
Anyway it was good to get out. That big buck sighting got my blood pumping for the season. Now I off to hunt for big 5 & 6 pound smallmouth up at Lake St. Clair.:bouncy:
Good Luck to all this weekend...

I've seen 4 really nice bucks but cannot get them to come in close enough. (closest was 72 yards). I was pulled back on a deer early Friday morning in one of the Gahanna parks here in Cbus & couldn't tell if it was a small buck or not & didn't want to burn my good tag. Then all of a sudden a person on a bicycle came flying thru & scared the **** out of me & the deer & when I looked back the deer had wandered off somewhere out of sight. I will try to upload the vids of the bucks that I got.
I took my fiance out this morning & we saw all kinds of activity. It was her first time out & she really enjoyed herself thank goodness ! She respects what I do much more now. I set up a scrape & it seems to have all the bucks on the 120 acres that i'm hunting moving around already. We saw 4 bucks & 4 does today - 1st one was standing in front of my ladder stand when we got there this morning at about 630am (definitely a shooter), 2nd was at about 745 (maybe a shooter) 3rd was at 830 (definitely a shooter) 4th one small basket 8 at 10am was about 10 yards (not a shooter). Pretty surprising to see those last ones out that late in the morning. Even the does didn't come thru til about 930. Perfect morning but too hot after 1030am.
I'll try to get something down before weeks end. I've got a pretty good setup in one of the Gahanna parks 10 mins away from my house.

I see tons of does when i check the fields from the roads, but it seems whenever i hunt, its all non shooter bucks and the does, never come out in the same spot on any of the farms.
But the good news, I started a couple mock scrapes, got a small 8 on camera, then on the edge of one foodplot a scrape has showed up on close to a mock one, So my camera is there, Im hoping the dominate buck got jealous.
More good news the week of the 27-31 i dont have to be at school until 9.30, So i plan on hunting Everymorning :)

Hunted Adams Co. Sunday and saw a shooter buck chasing a couple of does out of a woodlot around 11:30. We saw a bunch of does and yearling's around and a few lone fork-horns. Twice had small young does within 15yards and passed them up, looking for a bigger mature one. Did manage to part the hair of a coyote though...:mischeif:

I got a small 8 on video, that i coulda shot but not bigenough, and called in a tall 6 while the 8 was there, but he was still not a shooter.
Had 3 does walk by the stand within 20 yards, I woulda took the fat momma but it was really too dark to see through the peep.

Here's a quick vid i put together so far thru 10/17/08: 2008 bow huntin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRr2AXomCvo)
I took my fiance out & she had a blast...saw 4 bucks & 7 does. Couldn't get them to come in close enough (70 yds was closest for a shooter for her). I'm heading to Georgia this weekend for a wild boar/deer hunt & will be back Monday ready for the rut !
I can't believe how small some of the does are in this contest. I know size doesn't matter for does for points but jeesh, give em some time to grow up a little. Are people hunting just to kill something or for meat ? I was drawn back on a big ole doe last thursday but she wouldn't come out from behind a tree for 1/2 hour - that 2000th sense that they have i guess. Anyways, good luck to all it's heating up out there in the woods !

Went out tonight, didnt get in till later than i would like around 4 o'clock, as soon as i climbed in, i imediately spotted a doe already on the move, luckily she didnt see or hear me, she was there all night, until i spotted what i thought was a good shooter crusing across a cut bean field about 300 yards away, i hit him with the can twice, did some grunts with the buck growl and did one growl, and in he came,
When he got closer i realized he wasnt as big as i thought he was, but i was getting him on video, he started dogging the doe in front of me, he chased her off and came back, he wasnt was i was hoping for so he got the free pass.

I saw him crossing a pasture as I was climbing up my ladder stand at 3:30. I don't know if I bumped him out of the woodlot or if he was just out cruising. My partner had a doe and two yearling's at 30 yards just at daylight. He was not able to get a shot at the doe before they moved off. He also saw only one other deer all day, a little 4-point. Hunted down in Adams Co. yesterday. Had two young bucks within 6-18 yards, too little to shoot. I thought that I would see more movement but didn't, not a deer to been seen all afternoon. My hunting partner, on the other hand, had a slow morning but changed stands in the afternoon and saw 18 Toms and Jakes and about 14 deer. A nice buck ran a herd of does and yearling's out into the hay field behind his stand about 4:00. While watching the action out behind him a big doe and button buck sneaked up behind him. He couldn't get a shot because the button buck picked him off.

Yo 88,
If you looking to buy a bow you ought to check out the specs comparison chart on Hunters Friend.
http://www.huntersfriend.com/2007-Bow-Reviews/bow-reviews-2007-specifications-all.htm
I am a kinetic energy guy when it comes to shopping for bows. It's a big part of why I bought a Bowtech Tribute since it sports a 119.5 ft/lbs of ke. Also, smooth drawing, has a good solid 7.75 brace height and all in a 31" ata bow. Nice! To me, it's the best bow on the market PERIOD. Even better than their newer models.
Now, if I were set on getting a Hoyt(I did try some out at the shop) then I would probably go with the Vulcan. It's not the smoothest drawing bow, but she really flings em down range. She's a screamer and smacks in with 93.8 ke so that's a pretty good # even just slightly better than the X-Force. Speed is not the end all and be all of a good bow, but I like one that carries some punch down range. Good luck.
And...........I hope you get a nice big 4 pt buck for the contest. hee hee. :p
OhioHunter88
11-22-2008, 10:37 AM
thanks for the link CG, I have a Hoyt right now I belive it is an 04 or 05 model. i'll probablly end up sticking with hoyt, ive checked out the truth 2 and its seems like it would be a good hunter too.
I saw a heck of a deal on Vulcan, I'm not in a hurry to buy right now,but if i come across a resonable price on a newer hoyt right now ill snatch it up, but if not i can wait till after season.
bb0bbby
11-22-2008, 07:33 PM
Yeah, i like hoyt too...they seem to be a solid bow backed by a great company. The bowtech cams seem to be off a bit on each bow i tried. Just IMO.
I got my katera with the 150 off & it is the smoothest shooter i shot. the string feels beefier than the mathews & is why i chose it.

Sunday rolls around and the morning produces no kills, so in the evening i find myslef setup over our biggest foodplot. a bunch of does come out, and i am patiently waiting and no bucks show up, so i decided to take a doe. I picked the biggest one and then she started working towards me, i put a good shot on her, and she crashed within 40 yards. I was sitting along the south edge of a bean field and noticed movement at 5:00 in the adjacent smaller bean field to the north. The fields are separated by a grown up tractor path. At first I saw a large doe and two yearling's, then a big buck with a tall, white, wish-bone shaped rack appeared. He was being tailed by a smaller buck. At one time the bang antlers together. He was about 200 yards away. Just about legal quiting time (5:10), something spooked them and they ran off into the woody hillside. I am going for a few hours in the morning and evening tomorrow...

Last night, the engine in my mustang died, dont know whats wrong with it yet, but it wont fire.
Today- I was planning on heading out in the morning, i woke up with a cold, caughing and hacking, and sore throat, so i turned the alarm off and rolled over. I got to the tower blind around noon and lit the heater:) , around 1 a coyote appeared in front of me, i grabbed my gun and opened the window, whistled a couple times and he finally stopped, but right behind a tree.. as quickly as he appeared he disappeared. Around 4:50 a shooter buck came through the bean field with another deer behind it, but they were atleast 200 yards, so i just watched and thought about crying.
So, tomorrow i plan on sitting most of the day, because with all of this bad luck i've been having i am hoping it will change.

It's been one of those years:irked: No deer yet for me. Partner took two doe last week out of his blind. I hunted different stands trying to cross paths with some of the doe groups that we saw during Nov., but guessed wrong everyday:irked: We both saw the big wide and tall racked buck during the week but he was well out of range. We had other hunters on the property off and on all wee which didn't help matters, plus there was no one hunting the adjacent properties to move the deer around:rant:
To add salt to the wound:
Yesterday we agreed to hunt until 11:00 then meet at the gate. At 11:00 I packed up my gear and got out of the ground blind and headed up to the gate. I was at the gate for a few minutes waiting on my partner when I noticed movement to my right. It was a doe and she was hauling azz through a thicket. She ran down the hill and stopped about 30 yards in front of my blind:irked: That's been the way things have been for me all week:rolleyes:
I'll be out on the 20-21 to try again...
Hope you all had better luck than me

Had nothing but button bucks & small does running around. The lady on the farm next to where we hunt killed a hog though.
Here is the one that has been breaking the tines of the ones i've been seeing IMO:

We didn't have any luck last Saturday gun hunting. Didn't see anything all morning. Had a few show after four o'clock that were pushed from a few properties over. Came down with a sore throat and cold Sat. night, feel like crap now. Hope to get back in shape by ML season.

This was the first year in a long, long time that didn't take a deer during gun season. Worst yet I haven't shot a deer at all this year. :irked: Caught my wife looking at the beef adds in the paper. We haven't bought beef in years!:yikes:
I hope to get out with my bow next month...maybe I'll get lucky then....

Fellas, we ain't doin too good here... I have my doe from earlier in the season that I am reserving for that "just in case" buck here in the last month, but that's only 5 more points. I managed to put another one down on monday with the Muzzleloader, which was nice... Let's go fellas, sprint to the finish!!!!

The weather's been hard on the fingers & toes. I made it out a couple days but
haven't been seeing anything. This is the only thing we've seen & it appears
we were 13 minutes behind them on this day when we weren't hunting...at least the feeder's full !

Hehe Sorry I let you down 45, season not over yet :) I saw plenty of bucks this season, the main problem was getting the mature ones to do the same thing twice or come in, unlike the smaller one who just climb in the tree with me:)
I havent been hunting in a while, but my Vectrix is sighted in, and tonight one of my plots that i can see from a road had 8 deer in it, all appeared to be antlerless. So i promise i will make it out atleast one more time, hopefully more.

Hey 88 did you ever get rid of the older Hoyt yet?

I been out quite a bit, gettin zeroed in on a big fat doe. I think my chances at a buck are done, though, unless I want to take a spike, but I don't think I will. Like I said before, I have another doe to add to the points, just holding out til the end.

Well guys, its been fun.
I am kind of let down that i didnt arrow a deer this year, but really it is my fault since i had plenty of chances at does. As far as bucks go, I had a great season and saw a ton of up and comers, and a few shooters. So with the upcoming pre season prep, i am pumped to see what these bucks are gonna look like.
Hope everyone else had a great season, and ill see ya around.
