Howdy feller!

I don't know much about anyone other than Monroe. I live in Washington County and will be hunting with a bow. We don't have any big deer down here, but I'll do my best to score a few points...

haha...very funny bowhunter! I sure am glad to see you are on my team! My name is Matt. I live in North Canton (Summit County). I do most of my hunting in Harrison and Belomy Counties. I am 25 and have been married to my lovely wife for 2 years. She is dreading openning day, because she knows that I will be down south hunting almost every weekend! I have seen a few nice bucks runnin' around and a ton a does! I plan on popping a doe early and spending the rest of the season waiting on a nice buck! Lets make sure our team wins this thing!:woohoo1:

Hello my name is adam. I am 22 and attend OSU. I hunt at least 3 times a week, strictly bow only. I am from Kelleys Island (Erie County) where I do the majority of my hunting. But I also hunt alot around columbus (Delaware, Franklin, Licking, Muskingum counties). I've filled my tags for the past 3 years with bucks bigger than 8 pts. Knock on wood!!!

This Thiede? If so, you need to bring your arse back up to KI and have a hunting party some weekend. 1023 is a fellow friend and he's been dying for a reason to get up here (b/c I won't invite him:cheeky-smiley-022: ). Seriously though, would be a good time drinking one night and hunting the rest of the weekend.

Yup...I'm using a bow! Been working on my accuracy all year. Last year I wouldn't shoot at a deer farther that 25 yards. This year I can hit a target accuratly at about 50!

Did you guys notice 1023's signup number was 11, he was the first number in a random set of 108 numbers which put him on the #1 team.

Is this a sign  :shhh: ;)

I guess I can give my bio now...

I'm Jesse. I will be 26 in a few days, which also happens to be my birthday. At first I thought it was cool, then I learned I wasn't getting any birthday gifts! :( Anyways, I work for a large independent oil and gas firm that operates out of PA. I work as a Registered Landman in WV. I also recently joined up with BuckEye Cam to help them start, and run, a Pro-Staff. My soon to be wife, is a new BSN, RN on the Critical Care floor at one of the local hospitals. We have a 14 month old Chocolate Lab named Remington and a white picket fence… :D

I hunt mostly with my Switchback XT, but I’m not opposed to busting one with my CVA Optima Elite. I hunt five private farms that total over 450 acres and have access to another 650 acres of private land that I don’t hunt. My real desire outside of introducing new people to it is habitat and game management. The family farm is under its fourth year of my stab at a QDM plan and I think it has proven itself to be a worthwhile endeavor. I have killed my limit of deer four of the last five years, but no bucks since the one I killed in 04’. I operate under a 140” minimum these days and it makes it tough…

If I’m not doing something hunting related or working, I am most likely one an ATV, playing cornhole, and drinking beer with my buddies. Best of luck teammates! Let’s make sure we earn this #1 seed!!! :D

Monroe Bio:

37 years young. name is Shawn. Live on a farm in PA about 40 miles from OH line as the crow flies. Have been hunting in OH over about a 10 yr period. Hunt on about 800 acres in Monroe (hence name) county with a great group of guys. Like beer bourbon and women (especially my wife and daughter). Have a 5 year old that is primed and ready to shoot a deer.

Shot 2 doe and a nice (not 140, not 120) buck last season in OH - can see thread from last season for pics. Also a doe and a good buck in PA last season. Weapon of choice is a switchback XT sending slick trick bullets.

Also have something in common with Jesse - cause landmen like him have been pounding me for about 2 years to sign a lease...

I don't think we will have much of a problem ending this thing near the top...

To answer some questions....I hunt bow only. I shoot a diamond Rapture compound. I hunt mostly public land, but occasionally i snag some private. I
agree with whatever name everyone else decides. If anyone ever needs a hunting partner...will travel!!!

I guess its my turn next for a bio. My name is Eric and I'll soon be the young age of 35!! I have 27 acres on our farm and I have 4 other private farms to myself. I'm married and have twin daughters who love venison. My father and I own a hunting cabin in Waverly,Ohio where we hunt some also. I reside in the Springfield area where I have lived all my life! I work for a local City and enjoy fishing in the off season. Jesse we might try to get the team together for a corn hole tournament and grill some venison!!!:)

Monroe
09-02-2008, 04:23 PM
How bout you invite me out to the Waverly area for a hunt...;)

Have spent a lot of time in that neck of the woods (added a lot of money to the local economy!). Some tremendous bucks out there - just not the same in the bigwoods area that I hunt now. I missed a great 10pt out there in about 1999 - got it on video too (I don't bring it out very often). That was on a farm right along 23 just south of 32. I haven't been the same since...

If you score on one of those brutes down there, the other teams will never catch us!

bowhunter1023
09-02-2008, 04:28 PM
A cornhole tourney would be right down my alley. I lost for this weekend for the first time in a while. I drew a horrible partner and was matched up with another very good player. Between the two of us, we made almost 90% of our bags and we only scored 4 points between the two of us, 2 each. Made for along game...

I will get working on a decal for us in the next day or two.

Who do we want to be in the OS versus MI competition?

davies2097
09-02-2008, 06:48 PM
Cornhole and venison sounds good to me! I'm booked for this weekend! The wife and I are goin' to Salt Fork for the weekend. I vote 1023 for the OS vs MI!

erbuck
09-02-2008, 08:16 PM
Ur on Monroe! On the Mich. vs. Oh. it doesn't matter to me I will say either 1023 or Monroe since they are the Captain and co-captain.:bouncy:
Yea, we need to plan sometime this month to meet and greet and maybe even challenge another team to a corn hole tournament.

bowhunter1023
09-03-2008, 02:00 PM

Whats up guys? I just got back from Salt Fork. My wife and I went down for the weekend. What a cool place! We stayed at the Lodge for a couple of nights. You wouldn't believe the deer around there! I was feeding does 5 yards in front of me! There were a couple of real nice bucks too! There was a a real tall 7 pointer...he wasn't very wide, but man was he tall. Then this morning I walked out on my deck and there stands a doe and a beautiful 9 pointer. He was probably only 2 1/2 years old, but he had everything going for him. He was wide and had long brow tines! It was an awesome weekend! I would definetly recommened checking it out if you have never been there! :bouncy:

I knew that busch light was the redneck beer of choice (have purchased a lot of cases for the neighbors...) - but I couldn't find a good image of a can of busch light. Its all rot-gut to me!

If i get the time I can try to change the image to busch light.

Well guys we have one more weekend to get through before the big weekend is here! It's hard to believe that it is here once again. I was wondering what everyones plans are for openning weekend? Are you planning on taking a doe early and then waiting on the big boy or are you going to be patient and wait for the buck first? I'm anxious to let an arrow fly so I will most likely be taking a mature doe early if the oppurtunity is there. Yesterday my buddy went down to our hunting property and saw a nice looking 8 pointer that we have never seen before, so that got me a little excited. I know of at least 5 good shooter bucks that are in the area. Hopefully I can get a shot at one of them this season. Good Luck my fellow Rednecks!

I think I am going to try to head over and check some cameras this afternoon and "peek" around at some areas for next weekend. Not sure which stand to hit on the first day (am looking for some ladies) - so I think I will check to see if any acorns are falling. Have a lot of apples - so might just hunt them next sat right out of the gate.

davies2097
09-19-2008, 07:43 PM
I went down to my huntin' hole last night to check on things and make sure my stands were still up after that crazy storm. Luckily my 2 stands and ground blind were all ok. We did have some big trees come down in the area though. I will also be hunting over some apples come openning weekend. I'm hoping a mature doe steps out. If she does, shes down!

We only have 4 days left to wait. My plans have changed a little bit. I was planning on thumpin' a doe early, but that might have to wait. I have my 11 year old brother and possibly my dad comming down to hunt on openning weekend. Neither of them have ever killed a deer so I am gonna try to get them on some deer first. Good luck Rednecks!:D

Hunted last evening also. Only saw 2 deer. Same little 8 pt and a nice doe. Doe didnt come close enough though. Overall opening weekend was good for us. Had 5 guys up here for opening weekend. Total deer count was over 80 deer. We ended up getting a nice doe and a button buck. Everyone saw at least 10 deer from their stand. My buddy saw a monster at my one stand that I never hunt...until now!:bouncy:

Way to go erbuck! Saturday morning I didn't see a freakin' thing! Saturday evening and Sunday morn and evening I had a least 5 deer within 30 yards each time, but I didn't shoot anything. Had about 4 or 5 mature does broadside. Saw a couple of small bucks and a bunch of yearlings. I don't know why I didn't shoot a doe. The only reason I have for not shooting one was because I didn't have my camera with me. Without a pic we don't get points, but come this weekend I promise you guys I will at least but a doe on the ground! Good Luck guys...I would like to know how everyone elses openning weekend went!

Not the best start for me - but, not worried - this has happened in the past. 5 hunts so far, and I have seen one deer (small buck) within shooting range. In fact - it is the only deer that I have seen from stand so far. I almost got a shot at a doe walking in to the stand saturday - but it fell apart at the last second.

Ok? You were one of the guys bitchin' about guys signing up for the contest and then not being around! I'm not exactly sure what is going on with this site, but it seems like there are a lot of guys that are pissed off about something. I guess I missed it. Anyways...best of luck to ya this season. I hope you get an oppurtunity at Duece! More Importantly best of luck with your new wife! You will be missed...I enjoyed your posts and insite on deer and deer hunting!

Dude, relax! I'm not bailing on the contest. I put five points on the board and I plan on putting more up. I will check in about as often as I have been. Nothing is changing on that front so relax...

The vast majority of OS will not understand this whole situation because what drove Hiller and I from the site, happened behind the scenes. It got way to personal for me and I am not in the position to be getting involved in vendettas. It is safer for me to get away from the forums until a certain someone has had his fill.

If you still don't get it, I can't help you. But it is not about what went on in those threads...

I didn't mean to be such an a$$ Bowhunter. Whatever has happened between you, Hiller, and whoever is talkin' *****. I don't know you guys personally, but I have read most of your posts, and you guys seem like decent guys with a lot of knowledge. Hopefully whoever is talking trash will leave the site and you guys will come back around. Best of Luck.

Don't you have a street corner to be working at this time of night?

Dude, I am an old man. After I got home, old gf319804 showed up and I showed him how my fletchers worked and then we gameplanned for next weekend. When he left, I talked to Jimmy. Then I fell asleep in the chair watching Slunger videos. But I did finish my one and only beer :D

Well guys just got back from a disappointing weekend of hunting. The warmer weather and full moon seemed to shut things down for me for the most part. Saw around 15 deer from the stand but no shots at all. Probably my first time hunting my spot and not having a shot at anything. I need to put up some points. I have alot of hunting scheduled from here until mid november. It'll happen.

I got out tonight. Seen a doe too far away to shoot. Figures i saw 10 on my drive home. I'll be hitting it hard the next 3 weeks though for sure. I'm due for one. 26 hours in the stand so far this year.

bowhunter1023

I have had deer under my stand the last four times I have been out. Just no horns. I will be back out at least one time this week and all weekend...

Sounds good guys! Good Luck! 1023 has there been any signs of Duece latery?

Nope. Things have been super slow out there this year. All the crops have been pulled off already because we have been dry and the farmers got to pull them when they can. There is very little sign. In the years past, I would have seen several young bucks already and could show you two dozen rubs and a dozen scrapes. I can't show you more than a handful of rubs and no scrapes.

I stayed out of the woods for two months leading up to the season. I have moved my cameras at the same time on a weekly basis for two months making sure to be smoked up when I do it. I have only hunted out there 5 of my 13 hunts. I have no idea what has happened to him. I am running 4 cameras that get moved weekly and nothing. He is not bedding where he was. He is not traveling where he was. He is not leaving the sign he left last year.

I really do think he is dead...

I'd have to say..."don't loose hope just yet". The area that I am hunting sounds exactly like your area...slow slow slow slow!!!! I have seen a total of TWO deer in my time in the stand thus far...none close enough to throw an arrow at. Sign is way way down also....it just seems like a weird year for some reason. Maybe the rut will wake things up in your area....and mine.

We are not out of this thing yet fellers! We are gonna have to lay down two bucks at least and another doe for sure...

I had to change my gameplan a little bit for the weekend due to the wind shift and some "unexpected" circumstances. I will still be able to log around 30 hours on stand this weekend if all goes well. I figure I can get close to 70 hours on stand in the next 10 days. I should turn up something...

Just got back from muskingum county for the weekend. Deer movement was pretty minimal with the higher temps. Not much rutting activity. Only saw one buck trailing a doe. I didn't even have a deer present me with a shot. Deer movement was heavy after dark. Saw a ton driving to and from stand. I'll be back at it this friday to next wed.

I saw a lot of deer Saturday. I had deer on top of me constintly from 730-11. Mostly does and small bucks. I see a decent 8 point chasing a doe. He even gave me a broadside shot, but I let him walk...just wasn't big enough! Hopefully with this cooler weather moving in this weekend the deer will be moving even better!

Nice deer buddy! It's about time we get some more points for our team! I went out this weekend. I had a decent 8 pointer come in, but he was young so I let him walk. Then I saw a giant about 100 yards away, but I couldn't get him to come in. We need a couple bucks to get is back in the race! Keep up the hard huntin'!

Got another doe this afternoon about 2:00. Put a stalk on her and got within 30 yds and layed the smack on her. Hit the spine and dropped her. Had to finish her off then. Nice little doe. I needed one more for sausage and jerky. Pictures are posted in picture thread. Deer #3 down for me this year. I've had a pretty good year by my standards.
