Atleast you filled a tag! It's tough up here in Zone A. I was spoiled when I was in Athens for 4 years, hopefully the new home will bring some luck.

I hope the other guys make it before the 1st. Any ideas on a team name Ray? Tomorrow's going to be pretty slow at work, so I should be able to atleast throw a couple out there.

All my main stands are ready to roll on 2 pieces of priv. land. I do use a climber on occasion. Mostly beans planted on both propertys I hunt. I prefer corn, but if I put in my time, I should have my chances. Are you guys ready? How does everyone hunt? Lets decide on a team name.:coolgleamA:

six-point checking in.

Have been out of town quite a bit .... 2 weeks inb Aug, some in May, June and July too. Ready to climb the stand, draw the bow and eat me some venison.

I got skunked last year because I was too picky. I missed all of October because I had surgery and couldn't draw a bow. Then I was too picky...ended up not seeing many deer after Thanksgiving..

I won't be so stubborn this year...if it's brown, it's down!

BTW, name is Brent and I'm hunting Western Muskingum County and maybe a little East Licking County. Ladder stands are still up from last year. Using my crossbow to start with, but I may switch to my compound.

Anyone use attractants? If yes, whats your favorite???

A lot has been going on with football and school lately.. but it won't happen again :coolgleamA: My name is Kyle and I live in Perry Co and hunt close to the Muskingum County line. I'm very excited for this year... It's showing a lot of promise. :coolgleamA: I've been scouting all summer..I hunt with a compound and i don't really care what our team name is..

Alright, Team #18 is ready to roll:bouncy:

Team name ideas guys? I have not had any luck thinking of any, and am open to anything.

My hunting setup is unknown at this moment, due to moving. I should have an idea of my hunting grounds hopefully early October if the neighbors are nice:mischeif: I have always hunted out of stands until last year when I setup a blind and it really brought a new perspective of bow hunting. Might have to try it again this year.

But I think Flatliners is better, since there isn't a "team" infront of the name on the thread and I don't want people to think we're a fishing team with two words:yikes:

I have used corn before in SE Ohio with good results (buck in avatar), but it doesn't do much up North. I think I'm going to use the mineral mix 1023 has posted and see what it does.

I've got a corn feeder I normally run 2 times a day. It normally draws the same crowd of does with an occasional buck passing through. I did buy a mineral block this year to see it it helps.

I've had absolutely no luck with using scents.

I hear ya! Although I'm far from being ready. Bow is sighted in, and arm is strong and steady, but that's about it. Clothes still need washed, hunting land secured at new place, and stands hung.

We close on our home this coming monday 9/15, and gave the sellers 10 days to get out. The first day in, the minerals and salt are going out in the back yard, time to see what's in the area!

Hunter, I like the red lettering in the team logo, looks great! I think we need to keep it Flatliners as that is the medical spelling for a "dead deer":D I'm going to email 45 and ask him to make it one word. When you get it changed, I'm going to copy it if ya dont' mind.

mine finally came on about 6 tonight.

Went out and checked the stands. tons of limbs and a couple trees down. Looks like a tree one of my ladder stands was in was swaying so much the bottom of the ladder was picked up and set down closer to the tree. There is a nice bow in it now!

but for the most part the woods i hunt in was still in pretty good shape.

Now if I can convince my heart doctor that I'm capable of climbing a tree...

Just checking in. I've been trying to get my long list of stuff done. Killed my 1st deer(doe) of the year the other day w/shotgun on my Michigan lease during the early antleress season.
Been seeing some nice deer around, on the land I hunt in Ohio, so I can't wait to get after them.
In regards of the OH-Mich. contest, I would just suggest whoever has the most seniority on this site should be our team rep. I'll check back next week.

Whats everyones Opener set-up? I will do a morning sit in a 15 acre thicket w/ corn on the south edge, crp to the west, beans to the north, and hardwoods connecting to the east. Evening will probably be on a seperate farm in a long woods. This stand is on a inside corner w/ beans behind me and low-lands in the front. This stand has been very good to me.:bouncy:

Johnc21 has also got my vote...
But for the opening morning, I will be 30 yards from a little, clear-cut field inside the woods where I have gotten pictures of a nice 10 point in early august. I've set up where many trails meet and I'm very upbeat about hopefully seeing him the first day.. As for the afternoon hunt, I plan to hunt about 60 yards from a pine tree edge line... Alot of the deer run along the edge throughout the morning and hopefully one comes along the trail beneath my stand... I have a football game tomorrow so if all goes well, this week end will end with my team 6-0 and a big deer on the ground..

But I am not done completly with bucks, I lease land Just across the the State line in Mich. So I have an additional oppurtunity to whack a buck in Mich. But I am confidant I will get an Ohio doe for our team.:mischeif:

Hey man, take it easy, we dont want the next 10 pt. you see to vapor-lock you.
Just trying to insert some humor into a serious matter. If you are having these kind of problems make sure when you do go out hunting, someone knows exactly where your at. And don't over-do-it, like tryng to drag a deer or hang stands, etc. Be careful!:tsk: :tsk: :tsk:
I'm going out in the morning to try for a doe. I'll keep ya posted.

Thanks 00buck...

I have a pretty easy walk to the woods behind my house...Maybe 400 yards or so. I have 2 ladder stands, and any dragging is done by atv. I have to rest up the next 2-3 days.

Seems like this time of year is my unlucky time. Last year on Oct 1, I had emergency gallbladder surgery and missed the whole month of hunting season. Near the end of Spetember in 2004 I had a heart cath with 2 stents and missed a month of hunting, and in october of 1996 i had bypass surgery and missed the entire season.

But its all good...

Went out this morning, No deer sighted. I shoud've taken my daughter out for the youth waterfowl season. There had to be 50 geese and a bunch of ducks(woodys, mallards, teal) on the swamp. Cant take her tomorrow because the land owner does not want me to hunt on sundays.
I may go to my "A" farm in the morining, and hunt an oak flat leading to a corn field.

I took a boy out this morning for a youth hunt. Was a good day, had three woddies and a mallard in the first 15 min. He missed a bunch of geese and had 4 teal buzz him he didnt see, but oh well. I missed a lot of hunting last year because I was too sick to hunt opening weekend then I had emergency gallbladder surgery that Monday. After that I mostly buck hunted and ended up not taking anything.

Man, it ain't no fun going a year without some venison and I wasn't going to let it happen again.

I've been passing up does because I get this feeling that there might be a buck behind them and if I shoot a doe then the ''buck'' nearby will get spooked... lol

Congrats on #2 and way to keep Team #18 Flatliners on top of the board!

I made it out on Monday and last night, but had no luck. Sat in a ground blind both evenings after work, but didn't see a lick. It was great to be back in the woods again.

Sounds like you have a great chance to see a decent buck LB. Let them woman walk for the next few weeks and there shall surely be a stud behind them:mischeif:

Good luck to all you guys as the heat picks up. Keep the pressure on and in the 10 ring!

I made it out this morning. It was cold and very windy. I did rattle in two 1.5 yr. olds. One came from my north and the other from my south and they met by my stand. They locked horns and pushed each other around for a couple of minutes......It was pretty cool to watch but I wanted one of their grandpa's!!!!!! I will hit it again in the morning.

The smaller one was hesitant. He ran away at first but came back to get his butt kicked.
I did rattle another small one in the next morning and he had a big chunk of hide missing on his back where he had been fighting.
Im going to head out shortly to a spot that I have been saving, maybe a big old nasty Halloween buck will come through looking for a Slick Trick

Well, put a nice 27yrd shot on a doe last night from the ground. Tracked her into pickereal creek until 8:45pm and returned this morning after talking with the ODNR and making sure I could proceed. The arrow was fully covered with nice dark red blood, but after 300yrds, the book trail disappeared. Tough to call it quits, but she's coyote food by now:irked:

Good luck to night LB and to the rest of the team this weekend!

Got out this morning for a couple hours. Had a nice sized doe come in, but a little too far for me to feel comfortable shooting. She didn't stick around long either. Thought maybe she was being pushed, but waited about 30 minutes and didn't see any more.

Not much in the way of buck activity in the woods. I have only seen one rub and one scrape, but thats normal in my woods.

Nothing going on tomorrow ...so you know where you'll find me.

Hunted all day Sat. 1/2 hr. before dark had a very large ten point come right in. He got a free pass as I did'nt have a buck tag. After it got dark, all hell broke loose in the woods when I was walking out. I heard grunting and chasing, sounded like they were running all around me. I snuck out of there, figuring to be back in there in couple days to try for a doe.

Did you enter a doe and I somehow missed scoring it? You need to post a picture in the contest scoring thread or I might not see it...

You can enter one doe and one buck in the contest.

You better be eating up every moment you have a deer in front of you, I haven't seen one that wasn't running full speed, 100 yards away, in the opposite direction, besides last week.

It's enough to make a man go crazy!!:yikes:

Been trying to squeeze in a little pheasant and duck hunting. Will be hunting Mich. firearms opener tomorrow, hopefully I have some pics to post. I am going to try a couple more archery hunts in Ohio, time permitting. My friend (landowner, Ohio) shot a doe out of one of my stands two evenings ago. He saw a total of 13 that evening. My Ohio deer season ended Nov.30 I hunt in zone A, outside of urban zones (cant use antleress tags in this zone after Nov. 30) :irked: I would have liked to add a doe for our team total, but it didnt work out. I had a good hunting season chasin animals in Ohio, Michigan , and Colorado. Good-luck to the rest of the team for the remainder of the season.

If you did not already shoot one, then you can still be hunting. The antlerless tags are the additional tag not the regular one.

I shot a buck on the archery opener Zone A,and tagged it with the either sex tag ($24). You may only use 1 either sex tag ($24) in in zone A. I had a antleress tag ($15) but it was only valid to No. 30 in zone A (outside of urban areas).Frustrating to say the least, that I cannot participate in late archery season up here.:nono::irked: :irked: :irked: :irked: :irked:
The buck I shot was included in our team point total.

Now get this. If I shot a doe on the opener and used the $15 tag and still had my either-sex tag, I could still be hunting. Explain that logic to me.:irked::irked: :irked: :irked:
