Hey team! Greg here, glad to be aboard the next winning team! I live in Chesnee, SC (just moved here aug 4th) but still have my house in Canton, OH. I do most of my hunting in Tusc. and Belmont counties but never rule out other places. My time in the woods will a little less than in the past years but I should have plenty of time fill several tags.:D Once again, great to be aboard and ready to win this thing. AGAIN!:coolgleamA:

Who has some names?? How about Rulers of the Rut??

haha,, I like it!! Now if we strike out there might be a little egg on our face but I think we will fair pretty good :p

BuckSlayer
08-26-2008, 07:55 PM
I doubt we strike out, I was on the 2nd place team last year and we only had three guys participate. I cant promise I will wait til the rut to kill a buck though. The last two years I have put the smack down on one well before the rut. If the other guys like it we can go with that or we can vote on some other names.

I don't think we will strike out either but I want to let everyone know that this is my second year back into bow hunting after about a 15 year layoff. So any advice anyone has will be greatly appreciated. I shoot traditional so I am at MORE of a disadvantage that regular bowhunters so any advice you guys have would be great!

BuckSlayer
08-26-2008, 08:15 PM
Ive only been bowhunting three years and I think I got it figured out...knock on wood. I think it helps there are deer stacked up around my area. I will offer any advice I can. I also think it would cool for our team to meet up and all go hunting together, but I know that would be tough with everyones schedule and the price of gas.

NKFD13
08-26-2008, 11:02 PM
I always thoght it would be neat to go to coonskinners deer camp, can't go this years but if things work out maybee next year. I know we wouldn't be on the same teams but still be nice to meet everyone.

rossdeerhunter
08-26-2008, 11:26 PM
pretty good name i like it.... matt t dont be worried about getting back in to bow hunting the best advise i can give is to shoot, shoot, shoot, oh and did i say shoot lol

after last year im ready to get my hunt on lol i had a horriable season last year with no luck and limited hunting time...but this years goin to be different I hope

so whats everyones biggest buck? mine was a 139 6/8 10 point shot in 2006 (picture by my name)

oxmos
08-27-2008, 10:08 AM
Name sounds good to me. I doubt we strike out as well. We've got a good crew on this team. We've got one person from the 2nd place team and two from the first place team last year all together in this years team. My advice is just have fun. My biggest to date grossed 162". http://www.ohiosportsman.com/photopost/data/542/DEER002.JPG

BuckSlayer
08-27-2008, 10:36 AM

rossdeerhunter
08-27-2008, 12:02 PM

nice bucks guys my biggest so far ( dont laugh ) was a small and i do mean small 8 point basket rack bout the size of a small basket ball , i get buck fever pretty easy on the big ones hopefully this is my year to tame the buck fever , but anyway gone wild i seen you hunt in belmont county thats my main county maybe we can hook up for a shotgun hunt this year any name you guys come up with is good for me a name dont make the team the players on the team does we could be called team tag soup and still come out on top....lol anyone thaught of a logo yet

rossdeerhunter
08-29-2008, 03:33 AM
yeah im gonna have to leave the logo up to your guys b/c i have no idea on how to make one let alone how to put the darn thing as my avatar or what ever its called lol

NKFD13

BuckSlayer
08-30-2008, 10:16 AM
Thats the best I know how to do, Im pretty much dumb when it comes to computers, if anyone can do better than do it, if not theres a logo...

rossdeerhunter
08-30-2008, 01:07 PM

BuckSlayer
08-30-2008, 01:31 PM
Copy the pic, then go under user cp at the top left of your screen. Then click on edit signature and paste it in there. Or save it to your pictures, upload it to photobucket. grab the url, click on the little pic of the mountains above the signature box and then paste it in there...should work...I really dont know much myself.

uglykat26
08-30-2008, 02:17 PM

uglykat26
08-30-2008, 07:29 PM
me and a buddy of mine have been hunting a property for the past 7 years and the past 3 years we have been hunting 2 certian bucks , a 160 ish class 12 point , thats what he was last year , and a 170 class 16 point that i missed twice last year in the same day, plus there has been a few new comers on this property in the past couple years and have stuck around , in a few years they have some real potential in the next few years , but we only shotgun hunt this property we dont bow hunt it we leave it alone till shotgun season and that seems to work for us i have tagged out on this property 2 years in a row the skull was found on this property and the small rack below it was taking on that property last yearhttp://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s303/m_langoehr/antlerpics024.jpg sorry its so small there was another 8 point not much smaller then this one found 2 years ago down there http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s303/m_langoehr/antlerpics025.jpg

rossdeerhunter
08-30-2008, 10:33 PM
ive got my eyes on a couple of different bucks too nothing too huge i had a nice size 8 that made it through the season last year that probably went 135-140ish seen him early in the summer starting to grow a nice rack hopefully he will be the one. the other deer was a small 8 maybe 120 or so that hopefully made it through last season but i havent seen him yet this year.

BuckSlayer
09-01-2008, 11:50 PM
I only have two bucks on trail cam that I would consider shooting...I really havent put any cams out in new spots this year, been to busy. I may put out a cam soon at the farm I just bought to see whats running around. If you wanna see the deer I have on cam check out the threads I started.

NKFD13
09-02-2008, 03:50 PM
I have always wondered are trail cams worth looking into getting? thoght about getting some just not sure about spending the money

BuckSlayer
09-02-2008, 05:01 PM
Alright guys, we need to vote one guy from our team for the MS vs OS roster....lets hear it.

If you want to know the quality of deer in your hunting area, they are a great tool. Some people like the unknown and during the rut you never know anyways.

Alright guys, we need to vote one guy from our team for the MS vs OS roster....lets hear it.
How about we see if anyone wants to volunteer first? I would, but being most likely the least experianced in our group I'm not sure how well I'll do this year. But it's up to what everyone else wants to do.

uglykat26
09-02-2008, 08:15 PM
im also one of the least experienced on the team i have been deer hunting since i was 11 but just got inot it heavy the past 7 or 8 years but if no one else volunteers ill do it just dont blame me if we loose.....lol

BuckSlayer

Planted an acre of biologic full draw this past weekend to go along with the 8 acres of corn and rye we've already planted. Hope this will keep a few of them around. Usually see the big boys show up around mid October.

09-11-2008, 11:48 PM
was wondering if everyone is getting jacked up for the 27th, I know I am, can't wait for deer season no matter how I do it's always great to be in the woods:)

BuckSlayer
09-12-2008, 12:08 AM
I have been in the woods just about everyday this past week, squirrel hunting, checkin and moving trail cams, scouting out new properties, shooting my bow, im pretty much about to code on deer hunting fever. I have already found quite a few rubs and that really pumps a guy up...plus seeing those antlers without the velvet.

NKFD13
09-12-2008, 12:38 AM
Rubs are the one thing I havn't seen, but good chance I'm just missing them. :irked:

uglykat26
09-12-2008, 11:07 AM
i havent seen any rubs yet but i did see a decent 8 point scratching his antlers on the side of a tree he had a good size chunk of velvet that looked was messing with his vision i watched him for abuot 20 minutes till he got it off then he went back to feeding , did you know chipmunks eat the velvet the little turd took off with it before i could get to it i have only missed 3 days in the woods since the opener of hunting season seen a few small bucks and two decent size had a doe walk up on me last night while i was using the squirrell call scared the living poop out of me drove past the property i shotgun hunt and seen mister big and his brother at the feeder he looks to be a 15 with 2 small kickers off his brow tine this year has little better mass then last year his bother is a typical 10 this year with massive mass if some one dont take out mister big this year he may not make to next year he is getting up there in age , i talked to the owner he said he has seen him the last four years so he has to be atleast a 5 1/2 year old or older but since no one hunts it till shotgun they grow old on this property , seen some small bucks two 8 point that looks like the six point twins from last year so it looks like our hunting property has some good bucks again this year if they stick around till gun season

rossdeerhunter
09-14-2008, 12:24 PM

NKFD13
09-17-2008, 08:20 AM
just wondering, do you put out any type of food or minerals to help attract deer? I bought a mineral block at our local TSC store, first time, and kind of curiouse to see if it does any good or not.

BuckSlayer
09-17-2008, 10:33 AM
I put out anything and everything, first i put out some corn in early to mid summer to see if I am near any quality bucks home range, you can usually tell by the time of day they are on camera. Then after a couple weeks I put out a couple of those cheap flavored blocks from walmart, i think they are like 2 bucks. Then I put out a mineral block and top it with deer cocaine. Once they wear that out pretty good and pics slow down, I put out apples as you can see by the second pic. Corn always works especially if there is no corn in the area, but its expensive and I can get pics with free apples or without any bait at all. Well looks like half the team is ready to rock, lets hope the other 3 guys show up.

GoneWild
09-17-2008, 02:13 PM
Ready here! Although, I won't be in Ohio till around the 12th of oct. unless my schedule changes. This will be the 1st opening weekend I've missed in longer than I can remember. I will probably hunt muzzleloader here in NC, oct.6-11, and see if I can get a shot at the nice 11pt roaming our farm. I do know that once in Ohio I will be in "wack 'em" mode :coolgleamA: I plan on filling the freezer quickly this year. Good luck team on the opener! keep us posted.

uglykat26
09-20-2008, 06:19 PM
i had the perfect chance to fill two doe tags yesterday while squirrell hunting a doe and her two young ones was playing on the hill side across from me when one of the fawns came running down the hill towards me an the other two followed the little bugger was more worried about playing then where he was going and hits the breaks about 10 feet from me with mom and sibling right behind him and just sat there and stared for about 20 seconds then snorted and was gone , my heart never beat so fast in my life i need to star taking the cam corder with me on squirrel trips at ten feet even i could have hit the buggers with my bow and im a bad shot

BuckSlayer

yeah im signed up for gun im not to good at judgeing distance yet , i was lucky last year and got a doe with a bow when she walked with in 5 yards of me , but you put a muzzleloader or a shotgun in my hands and im hell on wheels i practice in the off season on ground hogs with shotgun and muzzleloader this year im going all muzzleloader no shotgun but im still gonna go out a few times with bow im hoping to get a new crossbow this year still havent decided on what type though , i just dont have the steadiness to hold back a compund for very long but im getting better only been bow hunting two years

have any of you guys ever bow hunt along creeks that run thru farm ground? Just wondered about a creek that I can hunt that is pretty heavily grown up trees, grass and shrubs, just never thought about bow hunting it. we hunt it durring gun and jump some up then, would you do anything different hunting bow, as far as where and how to set up?

BuckSlayer
09-24-2008, 09:40 PM
I would just find a good trail going across the creek and set up within shooting distance of it, or if you find a trail running parallel, anywhere would be fine.

oxmos
09-24-2008, 10:04 PM
I'd say buckslayer is on the money. Find a good trail where you can use the wind to your advantage.

seen 6-8 point this morning that just about ran me over came busting thrue the woods about 50 feet away on a dead run and ran right by me about 5-10 feet away. happened so fast didn't have time to even get my bow up. Talked to the land owners and they say they have been some coyotes around, so I think he might have been spooked by some because he sure was hauling a## thrue that woods :coco:

I screwed up last night. I was sittin along a clear cut on top a point. Had plans to be at my buddys for the buckeye game and dinner at 8. I had to drive home 15 min, get some chips and dip, change and drive 10 min to his house. Plus climb down from my stand and walk to the truck....I got on stand about 230 and didnt see a thing, at 645 I decided to get down, shooting light was about til 7. I heard some yotes around 630 not far from me so I threw out some fawn in distress calls to try to lure em in but no luck, so at 645 I climbed down. As soon as my feet touched the ground I heard something rustle the freakin leaves about 30 yards from my tree, I looked over there and saw something flash, I thought to myself, yote musta came in, I looked again- White throat patch, I looked harder, two ears pointed my way, uhhhhh noooooo i thought as he turned his head and gave me a good long look at his rack before he took over the hill. Shooter buck for me, not one I had on cam this year. No clue on what he would score, i didnt see both sides but his rack was nice and chocolate. I would have shot it.

Managed to rattle in a doe and a small 8 point Saturday evening, but was never presented with a good shot. As I was climbing down the tree I heard more footsteps. I stopped and saw a large dark bodied deer coming through about 75 yards out. That was it for any close encounters.

well my best deer magnet almost got another one , my wifes ford contour, barely missed a beautiful 8 point , he wasnt extremely large maybe 130 class but he looked perfectly symetrical on both sides we got a good look at him before he decided to make his own crosswalk

I had an eventful night for sure. Seen 6 deer, 5 doe and a 6 point. No bucks were chasing but the coyotes sure were....I had a yote trail three does right under my stand, they werent too spooked by it, they would let it get about 30 yards away before they took off. I had a mock scrape set up right under my stand and that dumb yote got right in it anyway it was pretty dark and I took a crack straight down shot at him...missed him but it was exciting anyways, even after the shot I still had the little 6 within 10 yards of my tree just standing there until about ten after 7.

nice turkey, always wondered is it pretty tough to kill a turkey with a bow? Would think kill area is pretty small

The toughest part of killing a turkey with a bow in my opinion is getting drawn back on them. As luck would have it, the flock's attention was on a young 7 point at the time and I used it to my advantage. The kill zone is definately smaller than a whitetail's, but at 20 yards I felt comfortable taking the shot.

jumping in on your guys team thread here............on the 31st I somehow got into my tree quiet enough that I did not spook the 5 turkey that where roosted in the trees around me. the came down about 10 yards from my tree. Well i should say fell down since they are the most ungraceful animals I have seen. they just started flapping and fell. it was pretty funny.

anyway. I will be taking my turk tag with me this weekend. just in case it happens again.

Thats kind of the problem up here, nothing is moveing to much. I mean I have seen deer but I have been out twice as much this year as last and have seen half the deer. I got into a new woods that I thought would be lights out and I have been kind of dissapointed with it , but I have faith. BuckSlayer
11-15-2008, 12:39 PM
After the rut the bucks will be refueling for winter so they will be eating like crazy, just gotta find where they are feeding, which will be close to bedding areas in the thickest stuff you can find, due to gun season. If you can find some acorns still on the ground after the rut then hunt there. I dont think there will be much nuts this late in the year though. Most feeding will be on anything green, winter wheat field, grassy lanes, stuff like that. JMO
