Yeh, I have a few on the list, He wont be the biggest but this is the one I have to put on the top of the list, my buddy found them on July 4th. The shed's scored 166" using an 18 inch spread.
I was out this past weekend and got a glimpse of this buck (the trail cam pic's from last July) didnt get any cam pic's of him yet this year but I did get pic's of a few other's.
Also I just sent Stonewall and e-mail to welcome him to team Bone Collector and introduce myself. Jeff

team 13 has a good idea....................a team hunt what do u guys think????????
Thanks 45!
yeley, I thought about it aswell, Think it would be a great idea but with me living in PA. I dont get to hunt and scout my area enough as it is.
Judging by your shed and cam pic's im sure you have a nice list for this year, any front runner's? Jeff
A team hunt would be alot of fun. The question is where? I don't have any visual evidence of him this year, but my buddy saw a monster last year in one of the woodlots we hunt. Those sheds are amazing, would love to see one like that.

Pike,
You found them shed in July? Where were they that they hadnt got chewed?
Hiller's barn more than likely.
Medic, they were found 100 yards apart in a creek bed, being it was July and the creek was real low, I bet they were under water for a good part of the spring/ summer. Now go back to your own team forum and play with your play mate's OldHat and Peppy !! :p
Welcome aboard Stonewall!! Awesome buck!! congads!! We are expecting you to top that one this year. :) Pike

Looks like you use the same mineral block I use. Nice looking bucks. Going out this afternoon and checking my camera, hopefully see more then skinheads on it. Hope everyone has a great Labor Day.
JC5, probably are the same I get them out there at the local feed store for like $6.50 a peice and the deer seem to really like them, I put a bottle of buck jam last weekend at one of my cams so Im interested to see how the deer like it. How do I get one of those Bone Collector singature's?
Cant wait to see your pic's. Pike
I get those blocks at Tractor Supply Stores. They run 5 or 6 bucks. No pics yet. I will have some by wed. as I put out 3 five gallon buckets of apples out today and my buddy and I hung another stand and I think we have 1 more to hang and we are done and ready. We haven't even been in the woods where I took my buck last year. I figure the longer we stay out the better.
As for the Signature I just went and edited my signature. Really borrowed it from Tom though.

The little guy from 3 different angles.
yeley I think your the best choice for our team aswell, since our contest's scoring system rule's are the way they are on how we determine how many points a particuler buck gets. Like a small 100 inch 8-pt scores the same amount of points as a 140 inch 8-pt I think you would be alot better choice than Stonewall, JC5 or myself since we all hold out for larger bucks and our bucks are not going to score any more points than a small buck, and your willing to shoot smaller bucks you have alot better chance to fill your buck tag and score points for our OS. team than we do.
Also I think the signature you cam up with is awesome!! Great job! Pike

Yeley settle down????? Where did I get bent out of shape about it???
And where did I say I wanted to be picked?? Because I didnt!! Like I said the way the scoring system is set for bucks Im not a good choice
because the gamble for holding out for a larger buck isnt worth the reward.
Like I said I think your a great choice to represent our team.
Also I dont think I should be picked just for the fact that I am from PA. and this contest is between OH. and MI. and all my team mates are from OH. it doesnt make any sense for me to be the team choice. Pike

this is kinda what makes me upset pike that comment. i work very hard scouting all year long doing my cams, mineral licks and everything else. the "100 inch 8 point i shoot last year happended to be a perfect buck to shoot 7 1/2 years old 265 lbs a perfect buck to take from the herd. i hunt hard all year long and wait for a good buck something over 130 last year i shoot the junk buck but made a horrible shot and wounded him 6 days later the "100 inch 8" came walking by my stand after a doe and i though he was bigger than he was and also i though what a huge body that deer has to be old! so you see pike its kinda like a slap in the face! sorry for getting bent out of shape. lets just have a fun time with the contest!! :bouncy: I don't really care who does the contest i think we would all do great.
Well i'm leaving sat. for alberta for my elk/moose hunt ill be back on the 17 th. hopefully ill have some pics to post!!

I figured this area was going to be good since there is a corn field 50 yards away and a bedding area on the other side. Hopefully can get a shot at the hog. Also, I have probably 200 visits of does and fawns on the camera too.

JC5,
The bottom deer is a good 3.5 to 4.5 yr old buck. Yes he has a large body, he is probably 200-220lbs on the hoof. You can tell his age based on the way his belly hangs and the size of his neck compared to the head. The small deer is a very healthy 1.5 year old buck let him grow. Nice work now you just need to find a place where they will walk during shooting hours. I would look for their bedding area from a distance if possible and set up on the least used trail on opening morning. Make sure you are far enough away from the bedding area to sneak out after your morning hunt or its over…… good luck
Lock them up.

I'm still here. I'm pretty much good exept for a few trees that need cleared from the storm. JC thats pretty porky deer there I'd say 3.5 years old mature buck for sure but if you want to shoot him or not is up to you it looks like a good spot hunt. GOOD LUCK

Since I've been back I've been trying to clean up the worst of the wind damage on my property. It's been pretty ugly, fortunately most of the damage seems to be to maple trees. My pear and apple trees lost all their fruit at once. Got my cameras on them to see if the deer are hitting them or not. My plots are coming up pretty good, got some great Buck Forage Oats coming along. My Biologic Full Draw is a little slower, but if we get some rain it will be fine. I usually don't get to serious about hunting until mid october or when it cools down.
Just checking in guys getting ready to head to OH. on thursday night until wed. night or thursday morning. I got one stand to hang and some scouting to do on friday but im pretty much set for sat. Good luck every one, hopefully I can put some points on the board early. Pike
goodluck and safe travels to and from. Can't wait to see how everyone does this week. I am getting out sunday morning and maybe sunday night. Been getting alot of does on the camera around sunrise, so I am hoping the big girl shows up.

09-23-2008, 08:23 PM
yep :shhh: cam pics in august were daylight and i seen him the other night at last light :yikes:
Very nice buck. Goodluck with him. I plan to be pretty selective on any buck before the middle of november. My buddy in the Zanesville area has seen 9 bucks all over 130 class running around together. He said one was around an 180 class and another was close to 200. He is a pretty good judge of bucks, so I have to believe him. So that is why I will be selective :) .
Yeley awesome buck!! So far this is 10-pt is the biggest buck I got on my cams, my stand is 15 yards past the salt block. Good Luck to my team mates!!! Pike

That is a nice buck Pike. Goodluck with him. I hope to have a doe down sunday morning or at least by the next weekend. Goodluck all, not long now. Also, a little reading for you guys, my buddy Allen wrote this last year to the tune of "The Night Before Christmas".
Twas the night before Archery season
By: Allen Kiger 09-2007
Twas the night before Archery season and all through the camp,
preparations were being made under the light of a kerosene lamp.
The camo was hung in the breezeway with care,
the Scentlok liner was also hanging there.
The bows were safe in their Plano cases,
and the arrows had been tuned without haste.
We stood double checking everything right down to the camo cap,
before we settled in for our short fall nap.
We slept with dreams of monster bucks in our heads,
while outside animals of the wild carefully tread.
When from our sleep with vigor we sprung,
the alarm had sounded, off to the tree stands we had hung.
Away to the woods we walked with much anticipation,
up the ladder and into the stand with determination
The early morning sun on the blades of the dieing leaves
Gave glimpses of shooting lanes through the trees.
When, what to my wondering eyes appears,
but a monster buck, with a spread wider than his ears.
With a little ole drop tine, and to many point to count
I knew in a moment that I had a large task to surmount
Across the field he slowly came
I grunted and rattled and prayed for his path to stay the same
Wind don’t you betray me now
keep on blowing across my bow
To the bow I must reach, to the nock I must secure,
the trigger which helps my arrow fly pure
As dry leaves break under deer hoof
My pounding heart provides the proof
My excitement and heavy breath I must contain
My emotions I can barely restrain.
As I lifted my bow, and was turning around,
The buck jumped the fence and toward me he was bound.
He was impressive, from his rack to his tail,
He was a true trophy in every detail.
A few grey patches spotted his back,
and he looked like a race horse just entering the track.
His eyes -- how they seemed to glow so bright
His rack was glistened in the early morning light.
His black little nose was drawn up sniffing the wind,
checking for the dangers I hoped my Scentlok would defend.
The stump of a tree behind which he did walk
blocked his vision as I drew my bow for the finale of the stalk
He paused and shook of the morning dew,
I aimed carefully and my arrow, it flew
He jumped and ran back the way he came,
I watched and wondered in mental pain.
A stagger of his step and a tilt of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to
dread;
He paused for a moment, and went straight
to the ground,
The elation I felt could hardly be bound
Out of the stand and to the forest floor
I raced like a child away from their daily
chore
I jumped the fence and into the field
Beside the majestic animal I had just killed
I dropped to my knees and prayed the
hunters prayer
Giving thanks for what God has provided us
with his benevolent care
Francis

Just got back in, two black squirrels and a rabbit! 878, 48 acres of my own and about 140 of neighbors.
Our thread seems to be pretty quiet. Did anyone have any close encounters this weekend??? I got out on sunday morning and watched 2 fawns chase each other around my stand. I think they did 5 or 6 laps in front of me before getting tired (I could hear them panting) and joining mom for breakfast. I could have had a shot at mom, but she came in first and I could quite tell how big she was. I just enjoyed watching them, took a couple pics with my phone and texted my girlfriend with them. Hopefully will get back out sometime this week in the morning.

Come on Pike put it on here! I'm setting at home with a cold/sinus infection and I need something to do!
got back from OH. this morning I shot a doe on sunday morning at 35 yards, made a great shot and she crashed for about 50 yards before she expired.
I also passed up a 3.5 year old 9-pt on sat eve as soon as the rain stopped and a 2.5 year old 8-pt yesterday morning. I also seen numerous 1.5 year old bucks but very few doe's. It was great to be back in the stand again.
I am having trouble posting pic's, I used my new digital cam. and cannot upload them in my photo gallery because it said that my file size is to large, never had that problem before and dont know how to resize them. I have been having trouble with my photo bucket account so could someon post them for me here and in the pic. section? Thanks.
Bawana I hope you feel better soon. Pike

Didn't get out over the weekend with all my hackin and coughin it wouldn't have done much good. I'll be out most every morning his week and hope to get a doe or two fairly quick. Went down to our cabin in WVA saturday and got it cleaned up and ready for the season down there. Their bow season doesn't come in until the 18th this year. One thing I did notice this weekend up here, I've got 48 acres here where I live, I've been cleaning up after this windstorm we had. I got into an area that lost several oak and beech limbs, looks like the deer found them right away and cleaned all the acorns and beechnuts off of them. Explains why I've got apples and pears rotting on the ground. Looks like the other oaks have a decent mast crop left on them. All my fruit trees are pretty much empty except for my sugar pear trees. Should make it easier to decide where to hunt:whistle:
I wasn't able to get out this weekend either. I had to work in Columbus on saturday and flew to New Jersey and worked there sunday. Got home today and had football practice this afternoon. I am going to try and get out in the morning if I can get some sleep. I think I have a pretty good chance at getting a doe this week.

Hows it going for you guys.
Tom
Been slow, been out 2 times this week and have seen 0 deer. Hopefully my luck changes tomorrow. I am taking a buddy out to sit with me. He isn't a deer hunter, but enjoys the outdoors. I taught him how to use a climber so he can sit right behind me. So hopefully we will see something.
My buddy had a doe all lined up, pulled the trigger on his crossbow and found out he forgot to take the safety off. She was gone by the time he got the safety off.
I connected with a nice sized doe this morning. So we got a few more points in the tally. I am waiting to get the pictures on the computer so I will post them as soon as I can. It was a beautiful morning out there and I had 5 does come to me and the first one stopped 20 yards broadside (even after having to tinker with my red dot scope). She dressed out at 115lbs. Probably the biggest doe I have ever shot. Now it is buck season for me.

I will be back out at the end of the month for 10-12 days to see if I can fill my buck tag, I should be able to atleast shoot another doe.

Pike thats something thats best answerd in a pm to 45 im not sure if you can replace the second doe with a buck.
Tom
Can you hold back on entering the doe till the end of the season?? That way if you get a buck you can enter it and if you don't get a buck you still have the doe in your reserve?? Just thinking out loud and not sure if that would be looked upon favorably.

Take the pics but don't enter it until you see if you fill your buck tag. Perfectly acceptable. Once a deer is entered it's final. I won't be "correcting" scores. Hope that clears that up. Congrats JC5 and all. Best of luck :D

I am splitting my time between OH and KY right now....on the ohio farm all i seem to see is 1.5 to 2 year old bucks....I have 4 different ones feed through on sat evening  I could put some points on the board that way but i am holding out for a better deer. Will put a doe on the board in the next week or so. I have already taken one in KY but that won't count here. I do the majority of my ohio bowhunting in November after the KY gun season. Well tonight was my last football practice and the last game is tomorrow night. So I will have more time to hunt. I may be out in the morning, but for sure saturday night (if it isn't raining hard) and then probably morning and evening sunday. I leave tuesday for Dresden area to hunt for 5 or 6 days.
Goodluck everyone.
JC5 Good Luck !! I will be heading back to OH. on the 28th or 29th and stay out until the 9th or 10th if everything goes as planned. :bouncy:

Been quiet for me, did have a weird experience this afternoon. I went out to check my trail cams and took a little walk down towards a beanfield that was picked last week. i was walking along the edge of my property which is brush and wooods mixed. i found a bed that was real fresh, i looked down the hill and a buck (about an 8 pt 1 1/2 year old) was standing there looking at me, he didn't look right and as I moved a little closer he turned and stumbled and rolled down the hill about 20-30 feet and just laid there. I walked down to him, he was still alive, i poked him with my walking stick and he started thrashing around and got to his feet and stumbled further down the hill. This time he stayed on his feet, as i moved closer again he walked away in pretty good shape. He walked over a small rise and into a brushy field that goes to the bean field. I lost him in there so I really don't know what was wrong with him. I had to get back to the house as we had plans. I'm going to hunt that area in the morning and then take some time and check that field a little better. I couldn't see any holes or blood on him and he was a big bodied deer. I thought about EHD, but we've had some pretty good frosts here the last week. From where he was the closest road is about 250 yards so i guess thats a possibility, or maybe he just got his butt kicked by a bigger buck.:dizzy:

well i'm staring to c a lot of bucks had my big boy that i wanna shoot in front of me this morning at about 50 yards but i didn't have a very clear shot. o well its only gonna get better
Well guys, I shot an 8 pt on sunday morning. Nice looking deer, probably score around 130 or so. Waiting for my buddy to send me the pics so I can get them posted and get our score updated. Also will give the story of that morning when I get the pics.
Spent the last week hunting down in the Dresden, Ohio area. Had a pretty good time. Saw alot of deer, heard a fight just about everytime out. One day I had a small buck bed 20 yards behind me for an hour and then another small buck that night bedded about 60 yards behind me. Rattled and grunted a decent buck in on friday night. He came in stomping and looking for a fight. About 15 minutes later he had found one behind me.
On saturday morning I decided to try a different stand. When I got into the woods and walked the 30 yards to the stand I bumped a deer. I got settled and heard a deer to my left and right. It was about shooting light when I heard them fighting to my left (wind was blowing from me to them). I heard heard one leave and I grunted when the other one was coming to me. I am pretty sure he winded me and that was it. I saw a doe later behind me and couldn't get a shot on her. So on sunday morning the wind had changed 180 degrees. So I thought that stand would be good again. As I walked down the edge of the woods, I had my green headlight on, I could hear a deer about 30 or 40 yards inside the woods. I just continued my walk to the stand and hoped that the deer would think it was another deer and not spook. I was in luck as apparently the deer can't see the green light as it never spooked, even when I looked into the woods and when I missed my entrance and had to double back. I could still hear the deer not far from me, pretty sure it followed me all the way down the edge. Then the fun started, as I walked in the woods, I trip on a branch, so that was the end of the deer following me. I heard it run up the hill and thought damn, going to be one of those mornings. Well I get to the stand, tie up my bow and get up there, get my bow hanger screwed in and hang my back pack and pull my bow up and then my phone goes off. Someone sends me a picture message and it ding dings ring rings and I had forgotten to set it to silent. So I figured the morning was done then. I settled in and listened. Around 7:00 I see a small buck behind me and he feeds for around 20 minutes. While he is there another buck shows up there and they disappear and I hear them hit antlers once. The second buck comes around and he is decent, I would have had to made a decision on him if he had presented me a shot. They both moved away over top the hill. I figured I was done seeing deer, so I pulled out my phone and played some texas hold'em. About 15 minutes later I heard something behind me and looked and knew right away I wanted to shoot that buck. He was up where I had seen every deer and every deer went up and never offered a shot. So I grunted at him 3 or 4 times and waited. He looked nonchalant about it and continued to feed. Eventually he works his way down right behind me and to my left. I have a red dot sight on my crossbow. Well when the buck moved to my left he stopped and rubbed a tree a little and then came down about 10 yards from me. I raised up and looked through the sight and nothing, I hadn't turned up the dots bright enough. So by then he was moving straight away from me. I figured I just blew a shot on this big deer. Well he stops and I am begging in my head to turn right. He took 2 steps to the right and I shot. As soon as I saw the arrow hit I was worried. I knew I hit him way to far back. I could see the arrow in him as he ran about 30 yards then stopped. I hear something to my right and there is another buck standing there watching him. Well the one I shot heard a squirrel and took aff again, another 20 or 30 yards. Then he walked off slowly. I waited for about an hour before getting down and made sure I hadn't heard him. I snuck out (didn't break or trip on any branches) and went and picked up my buddy. Told him the story and we went back to our buddies house and told him what happened. We decided to wait till noon to go and look. We got there and found the arrow. The first thing I did was smell it and was shocked it didn't smell like a gut shot. I looked at the blood and smelled that on the leaves and no stomach smell. I was a little shocked. We trailed him down the hill and back up another hill. We got out in the field and to the tall weeds and kicked him up. He wasn't moving well and we knew he was hurt bad. So we backed out again and waited till 3 to go look again. This time we found him about 40 yards from where we kicked him up the last time. After gutting him and skinning him we figured out what happened with the shot. When I shot, he was taking a stop forward and the arrow hit the front part of the rear leg, sliced right through a bone and redirected up to the opposite shoulder. It cut the diaphram and clipped a lung. The stomach was open, but didn't smell. So I was pretty fortunate.
If you read that whole thing, sorry for being so long winded.

JC5 Congrads!!! Awesome Buck!! Yeley congrads to you and your wife aswell!
As far as my trip went, I ended up moving all of my stands from the 1st week because they were void of sign and wasted the 1st couple days hunting them, except for one, one morning I saw a group of 3 bucks together ( atleast one shooter) like they were still in a bachlor group, I hunted that stand again that eve and heard a single deer walking in the thicket below me but couldnt see it, I grunted and hit the horns lightly and the buck started grunting, he starting comming in but decided to do a semi circle and got down wind of me started to blow at me as he walked away. The next day I decided to scout the spot the bucks had entered the fence row and found that they were using the whole in the barbwire fence were there use to be a gate (this area is an old over grown pasture with sugar pear and apple trees) Unfortuantely I had only 2 choices for tree stands about 15 ft apart, all the other tree's were to small, one I could only get up about 15 ft because of the v and the other I could get up about 19.5 feet but I had to cut way too much just to shoot 5 yards , I didnt want to make any racket so I chose the smaller of the 2 (big mistake), the next morning I had a doe and a fawn start to come thru the opening and the doe looked right up at me and after a couple minuted stand off decided to walk directly away and blow a couple times, 15 minutes later I heard 2 very loud deep grunts and breaking all kind of branches heading right towards were the doe and fawn headed, less than 5 minutes later the doe led a huge buck (Both were just walking and he was right on her tail) right back to me and at the last second she remembered that there was something in the tree she didnt like and stopped and looked right at me again, the huge 160 inch buck at the time was 16 yards away and but quartering too me, he was clueless to my presence and probably was asking the doe whats the matter? are we going to do this or what?
The doe finally just walked directly away buck in toe and I never was able to get a shot. :banghead3:
After I got down I returned with a my tree trimmer and saw and cut shooting lanes so I could hunt out of the other tree. The next morning the only deer I saw was the same doe with her fawn again and never even looked up at me in the new tree or the tree she had busted me in the day before.
Two morings later i saw a 150 inch 8-pt cruise by at about 80 yards but never paid any attention to my calling. The rut was definatelly taken place by the 1st of Nov. I probably arrived 2 days early but I hunted and scouted as hard as I could, Im gonna try to get back out for 2 or 3 days.
Bawana we found 3 dead deer last week in our creek, a 3.5 year old 8-pt and
2 doe. last year my buddy watch a 1.5 year old 6-pt die right in front of him while stumbling around in the same creek during the 4th day of gun season.
So just because a deer gets infected earlier in the fall doesnt mean it cant take a while for them to die, we also found a fresh doe in Jan. 30 yards from the creek aswell. Hopefully we wont find any more. Good luck everyone. Pike

Jim Laner, he was active in New Phila sports. Going to the branch right now. He was going to get in a stand I had put up earlier. Either my directions weren't to good or somebody wasn't listening real well........anyway he ends up in an old ground blind I had for turkey hunting. Buck walks up to him at less than 20 yards, double lung with a montec and 40 yards later it's all over! If he would have found the stand, the buck would have walked about 60 yards from him to live another day. I've got pics of this guy from the last two years, and he looks the same both years. I'm guessing him at 5 1/2 based on that. While we were field dreeing him, he also fessed up and admitted he missed him at 30 yards last year!!!

well are team thread is a little dead! Anyone get anything or seein any big boys???
Have been out in the afternoons when not working (I have no motivation to get up early now). Been seeing a few deer, but nothing big. Went out this week to scout a little for my buddy who is trying to get his tags filled and who is taking his son out this weekend. Hopefully they have a good morning tomorrow. I don't have any intentions of shooting anything till after gun season or muzzleloader. Depending where I hunt. I really like to hunt the late season and will try to hold onto my tag up here till january. Good Luck everyone.

Been quiet for me, seeing alot of small 1 1/2 year old bucks, but that's been it. After today I'll be hitting it hard til gun season, hopefully find a bruiser wandering around looking for one more girlfriend! On another note my buddy and I had our best season ever in W. Va., In 6 bowhunts we killed four bucks, and then in the first two days of gun season two more bucks and a doe. It was crazy, this year we saw 7 bucks and 9 antlerless deer in bow season. In gun season we saw 4 bucks and 7 antlerless. And one more thing....HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYBODY!!!!

I finished my season last night with a small doe. She had a limp when she came in, so I figured I would take her. Looking at her leg when I got her home, she had a broken left front leg. So even though she was small, I am glad to have taken her.

Talk about getting the most out of your season! Congrats on the late season bucks. I struck out friday and sat and didn't get out today.
