Does anyone have an idea yet as to where they will be hunting opening day? A special spot, a new stand area, etc.

I went and scouted an old area I used to hunt, the same place I shot my 12 pointer and, the area looked very promising. A guy that lives near by said he has seen a 14 pointer and a 10 pointer that have nice symetrics. Another buck running the area may be over 22 inches inside and a non typical with an almost straight verticle rack on his left side. I scouted the area tonight and saw 1 buck, the 10 pointer if I could guess, he is a wall hanger. I also seen 4 does that didnt even act like they cared if I was there. I picked 2 different spots to hang a stand. Can't wait to get into the woods.

I'll be down on the farm in Vinton hunting over either my clover plot or green patch plus plot. Whichever the wind is better for.

In the morning through mid-day, I'll be over water low in the holler next to a plot of buckwheat and turnips and just up from the oaks. It kinda sits between the beans and the bedding too!

In the afternoon, I'll probably be behind the camera with this kid...

opening day for me will not be until october 25th, when i get back to ohio for my 5 weeks off. i will probably be in a stand i hung in april along the river at a pinch point between the river and a secluded field on an inside corner. hopefully i can catch a buck out cruising like last year. i killed an 8 point 75 yards from this stand last year that i rattled in.

I'm not sure if I will hunt the morning, but the afternoon I will either be on an old road bed funnel between 2 food plots on doe patrol or I could wind up hunting an apple tree from a ground blind if ol' Sad Daddy is making appearances on the camera during daylight hours. :mischeif:

I'm going to share my opening day with my 10 year old daughter. She'll be carrying a horton crossbow tipped with steelforce or muzzy 100 broadheads. I'll be carrying my stryker archery long bow, cedar arrows tipped with magnus two blade broadheads. This is a place that I have had opening day success 3 years running. Last year I whacked off a does opposing leg and the top of her heart with a rage broadhead. There is always a parade of does and young bucks leaving the beans/corn and heading back to the bedding area. On second thought just in case that monster shows up and he's out of her range, maybe I'll bring my Bear Truth compound.... I degress - Madison has been paying her dues and it hurt her bad when her new stepbrother scored on a buck his first hour hunting for anything last year after she struck out or turned down shots the past few years. Opening morning is all about her. Maybe I'll leave both my bows at home but.... how special would a double be for father and daughter?

That sounds like a great idea I am sure the rewards from time spent with your daughter will outway not having any bow.

20' up inside edge of woods just off a trail that leads into a bean field that is 75X400 yards long. I'll be on the narrow end. This field lies right between 2 cornfields of the same proportions. That night I'll be in a creek bottom overlooking a cornfield that butts up to a tiny thicket. Right next to me there is a shallow crossing that the deer always use to get across and drink from. I haven't really said much to anybody yet, but I've been watching 3 shooters out there feeding the past 2 months. A 120", 135-140", and one that I'm guessing may push the upper 170's. This is same area that Deerfire's 204" monster came from 2 years ago. To be completely truthful, I've seen no less than 12 different bucks in my neck of the woods where I have stands that will gross over 130". A few of us have been watching most of them. I've never seen so many large bucks preseason before. Anybody else seeing the same thing?

If the weather stays warm I am going to take a gamble and hunt over a water trough in a funnel that connects hardwoods to an open field on a friends farm. I have only hunted this property a couple times last year. I have not scouted it, but last season I saw many giant tracks around the water trough early. I think the opener may be the time to hunt this spot.
