What does everyone think about getting together for a big squirrel hunt? Maybe in Tar hallow or Zaleskie? We could get there early in the mourning hunt till noon eat lunch and B.S for a while and maybe do some more hunting.Im thinking like early September. Let me know, I think it would be fun and give us all a chance to meet and put a face with these screen names.

Sounds like a blast, but I'm not sure what my hunting status will be this year, I maybe looking at pretty extensive back surgery, so pardon me if I won't commit yet.

MrFurious
07-25-2003, 03:51 PM
Ok Mal, what did ya do this time to make the wife give ya a good flogging with the switch and mess up your back? LOL

BTW, sorry I've been AWOL so long. Spring rolled around and fishing season hit....and well...uhhhh....lets just say the boat has been getting a good workout this year. I've also been trying to get money together to build that "separate building" the feds require so I can eventually get my FFL license approved (I still wonder if I could get by with an 8'x10' storage shed just to make them happy. lol).

Hope things straighten out with your back, delt with back problems myself the last few years and I know how miserable it can get. Drop me a line when ya get a chance.

Mal
07-25-2003, 04:06 PM
Man I thought maybe you had dropped off the face of the earth, and maybe your wife might be ready to sell your hunting gear. LOL. I'll send you an e mail to let you know what all has been going on.

That would great. Couldn't we have several around the state so it would be easier for all to be involved?

5Cent
07-25-2003, 10:21 PM
Sounds good to me. I like the whole state thing too, just so everyone could get a chance to get involved. But I do recommend going to Waterloo(which is a squirrel research area that butts up to Zaleski) as great place. I know they're everywhere so I guess it don't matter.

Beau Martin

Beau Martin
07-31-2003, 02:53 AM
I'm not familier with the central areas to hunt but here all i hve close by is Lake laromie state Park and Dark county. Open to sugestions am always looking for new areas to try. what public do you have near or around you?

CatDaddy
08-01-2003, 02:05 AM
How many people are planning on going? We have Deer Creek, and a couple other public hunting areas around me, but if is just going to be a few of us I might think about taking you guys to some private land ;) But PLEASE if I do decide to do that dont act stupid or evan plan on acting stupid there. It is getting hard to find private land to hunt.

Ohhunter

That is probably them. If you get the chance ask them if they are related to Dick (Richard) Baughn who used to live in Johnstown. My father passed away in 1987.

His brother's name was Robert or Bob (he passed away when I was probably 10 or 11). His family lived in Reynoldsburg. Infact I have, or used to have, a cousin who was a police officer there.

I doubt that they'll remember me. I'm the oldest of four kids. The last time I remember going to there farm was for a Baughn family reunion many, many, many, did I say many, moons ago.

I'll bet I'm related to them. Small world isn't it?

Hey CatDaddy Me and my wife was going through Harrisburg last weekend and just out of town. a big male coyote ran across the road.It was funny seeing it right at the edge of town. That was out by 71 and it was headed to the river in the middle of the day.Hey the 20th of september is ok with me.But i think we would get more squirrels on private land.Unless you know some good places at deercreek.

CatDaddy
08-08-2003, 12:06 AM
I dont know any good places on deer creek....I am going to check out deer creek on the first saturday of season so I will see. It is totally up to you guys where we go. like I said we can go to my private property if you want. Ive got enough places we can spend all day hunting.

Ohhunter, Yea there are plenty of coyotes around here...wanna shoot some? let me know. What road were you on when you saw him?

Beau Martin
08-08-2003, 04:45 AM
Ok it seems we have desided on saturday the 20th. now how about a time and a place to meet. I have no prob with public or privite. You guys let me know where and when. And directions to wher we should meet.

Ohhunter
08-09-2003, 10:17 AM
CatDaddy I don't know the name of the road .Its the one that takes you over to Georgesville rd. and westland mall.I hunt coyotes but i have killed only four around here.I think its to greened up right now.Maybe this winter we can try and call some in around there? They had something going on last night at the riding stables in Harrisburg.Do you ride there? How about meeting at the bp at 71 and 68 that would be easy to fined. The private land sounds good to me.Deercreek gets hunted to hard .

CatDaddy
08-10-2003, 02:36 AM
Yup the 20th it is, We can try public land and if that dont work out we can go to som private land I have. Do all you guys know where the shooting range is? I was thinking we could meet there. Id like to get started early in the mourning, pack a lunch and hunt most of the day, but is up to you guys.

Ohhunter, Yea I used to ride bulls down there but the state bought that land and now they wont let us buck out any bulls there :(

You guys have a great time. ;) I was really hoping to get in on some of this, but it sounds like we are working right up to Thanksgiving w/only Labor day off. I wanted to bring my squirrel dog, but maybe this is a good thing. This way she can't embrass me. :D

CatDaddy
08-14-2003, 12:08 AM
Ya know, Ive been thinking...Do we really even want to bother with the public land? Ive got enough places to keep us busy all day. Do you guys like to walk or sit when you squirrel hunt?

Beau Martin
08-14-2003, 02:12 AM
I usally do both I will sit and walk. depends on were I'm at. whae I hunt the public around here I ussaly walk in the early hours when they are maore active because they seem to be use to a lot of people walking in the morns then will sit in a few spots later in the day. so what ever you would lkike to dolet me know I have it already marked on my calender just give me directions to were we could meet and Im ready!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

CatDaddy
08-14-2003, 02:45 AM
What do you think Ohhunter? I have been looking at a map and I think it will be easiet for Beau to come on over here instead of deer creek.

Ohhunter
08-14-2003, 09:49 PM
On the map it Looks to me that rt.29 over to Urbana then rt.29 to rt.56 south down through London then down to rt.71 north up to rt.68 we can meet at the bp at 71 and 68.Thats a long drive to hunt them big rats. But we can make a day of it.

CatDaddy
08-15-2003, 12:11 AM
I was thinking that if we hunted on the private property Ive got that Beau could just hop on 71 and come up to St Rt 62. That is real close to the property. And you (Ohhunter) could just come straight up 62. We can meet at 62 and 71. That is IF you guys would rather hunt private land. 68 seems to be out of the way even if we do hunt deer creek.

Ohhunter
08-15-2003, 08:29 PM
Meet at 71 and 62 is fine with me.I dont know why i said 68 my bad.I would much rather hunt on private land.Just give me a time and i'll be there. And lets all say what we are driving so we can look for each other..I'll be driving a blue jeep cherokee.Beau sence you have so far to come We can also give are cell numbers.Just in case you have any trouble.

CatDaddy
08-15-2003, 10:04 PM
That is good for me. what time Beau? It is up to you really as to what time you want to be here. I will be driving a green Ford Ranger extended cab. Where 71 and 62 meet there is a BP right as soon as you get off we can meet there. The exit is number 94 it will say St Rt 62/ 3

Beau Martin
08-16-2003, 01:50 AM
Sounds good to me I have a 77 bage Ford F100 I will be the one sleeping in the cab I will more then likley leave right after work and catch a couple of hours sleep If Im not in the cab look in the bed under my topper LOL I wont be the first time I have done this Use to do it that way when I use to hunt ducks up at windy pointon St Marys lake. So I will see you at the BP station on the morning of the 20th with Rod and guns ready to go. Do ether of you have a portable grill. You said something about bringing lunch, If it is a good day we could be having squier for lunch Just a thought! I dont have a cell but pm me the #'s and will see what we can do.

{CBGB}BIGDOG3c
08-16-2003, 09:37 PM

I really dont like to eat wild game without soaking it in saltwater overnite. There are plenty of nice little country restaurants around here to eat lunch. Id just pack something for a snack, And I will pick up a dozen doughnuts that morning. Just let me know.

Ohhunter
08-21-2003, 10:55 PM
Thats fine with me cat.We can go some where and eat.Are all the squirrels red up there or is there any grays? All red here around Washington C.H. Have you ever been to Jamestown? They have black ones there.Thats no lie as black as coal.I have never killed one but i have seen them .I was working there and i could not beleave it all black.

CatDaddy
08-22-2003, 12:36 AM
Some woods around here have grey squirrels and some have Fox squirrels. I even seen a white one last year. What would you guys rather hunt Fox or greys? Some of the Fox squirrels are as big as cats around here, But I like the greys better..They are alot easier to skin.

Ohhunter
08-23-2003, 08:08 PM
I'd like to hunt the greys.I can hunt the reds around here.I think the greys are more fun .They dont set still for long always on the move.Hey cat you can skin mine to.LOL:D

Beau Martin
08-23-2003, 10:12 PM
Six is fine for me just wake me when you get there LOL . Greys reds dont mater aslong as we have fun!!

I'am still alive cat.I just got a new bow and i've been setting it up.Man i can't wait untill oct.4 when bow season starts.Thats why i like squirrel hunting it gets you ready for deer and turkeys. But my first hunting love was squirrels.Thats what i cut my teeth on.Now number one is turkeys then deer.I've got 800 acres in Hocking Co. thats full of turkeys.I'd like to take you if you have never hunted them. Its a blast just to see and hear them.I've got about six turkey guns setup and all the camo we need. The fall season is coming up.Just let me know?

CatDaddy
08-29-2003, 12:48 AM
Oh, Ive hunted turkey!! Killed a nice one this past season. When you guys come up I will take you to my house and show you all the turkey mounts. Im still always looking for a good place to hunt them.

CatDaddy
09-03-2003, 02:10 AM

Ohhunter
09-04-2003, 08:48 PM
I went dove hunting on the opener.took 8 in about a hour. And i went to site my scope in on my 22 .I took about ten shoots and it was still on from last year.I didn't stay long the mosquitoes almost ate me alive. Are they that bad in the woods up there cat?Thats why i'am not going squirrel hunting yet.

CatDaddy
09-05-2003, 12:00 AM
They dont seem to be too bad. I put some "Deep woods" Off on me and go. I went again today and killed three greys and one red. I seen a squirrel that was blonde too. I wish I could have got a shot at him.
