my dad has a 2001 F250 Powerstroke 4x4 and he gets anywhere from 18-22 mpg. its just too bad diesel is like 4.60 somethin a gallon... kinda takes away from the better fuel mileage.

Hey its a bad time to be buying a diesel less your planning to pull a big camper with it.
I know some guys that have park there diesel trucks do to it cost to much to run them. They would like to trade them off for a gasoline truck but they don't get anything for there diesel's.
Gas & Diesel maybe coming down a bit now but I sure its going to go up again after whats been said on the news reports. :irked:

I would like to get a new truck myself but I going to hold off and see what things are going to do for now.

You can always buy into oil futures right now...they pay dividends.

2001 6.6L EC, SB, 4x4, with 102,000 miles.

I average 19-20.5 mpg driving 55-60mph, 25 miles each way to work. On the highway she'll get close to 22mpg w/o any kind of strong head wind, even better with a small tuner on it (I had a power pup on setting #4). Best of all is pulling the 25' camper and it will still get 16-18mpg:bouncy:

These guys are right though, if I were in the market to get a truck and didn't need a diesel, I would stay away with the current prices. That being said, you can find a great deal on trucks right now. I thought about trading mine in for a newer 6.0L or 5.3L, but no way no how. I enjoy the power to much and the smoke makes me horny:bouncy:

My buddies brother is an engineer for GM. He said if your looking at buying new wait for the '09's if you can. Everyone has stuff in the works to improve their mileage.

I went ahead and bought my 3/4 ton Chevy anyway this summer. It was too hard to pass up 72 mos./0% financing. It's the gas 6.0 and it gets about 5 mpg better than my F150 did on the highway.

I know you want diesel but i bought a new Chevy Silverado 1500, 5.3L and its getting 18 city and 24 highway. I do a lot of highway driving and made it to Myrtle Beach from Columbus on a tank and a half because its got the built in fuel management system that shuts half the motor down once you have a set RPM. Very nice, great looking inside and out. Absolutly 100% satisfied!

I have always wondered about those trucks, what does it sound like whn you shut down 4-cylinders? I cant imagine puttin aftermarket exhaust on a truck, to hear the v-8 rumble, then on the highway it sounds like a 4 banger.

The new ford's are 6.4's.. The 6.0 litres had tons of problems.. My cousin went through 4 turbos and three headgaskets before he got rid of it.. He has a 08 f350 long bed auto.. Gets around 15mpg.. Has to run the new ultra low sulfur and has regeneration setup on it, and both hurt the mpg...

06 dodge ram 1500 5.7 Hemi 4x4. This engine seems very fuel sensitive I'll get anywears from 14.5-16.4 city up to 18.5-20 highway depending on fuel and wind. DOES NOT LIKE ETHANOL BLENDS . That puts it at the bottom range really quick. Trip to ND 2 years ago I got a really heavy ethanol blend and thought my truck was broke - 15 mpg highway. Yeah boy, Ethanol sure is tha answer to our problems:nono: My truck likes Shell fuel the best. FYI I have the first year multiple displacemnt Hemi. Lots of power! My lease is up (glad they talked me into a lease so I can walk away from it) This Feb and I'm not sure what I'm gonna do. I'll probably pick up an old Bronco or Tahoe or try to buy my 1999 Ram back. Gas isn't so bad with a paid off vehicle! I'll just buy time and see what the 2009/2010 models come out with mpg wise. One things for sure, those midsized trucks are a sick joke, 2/5 the power, 1/2 the room in bed and cab, and a whopping 1-2 better mpg compared to a full sized truck.

Thought you guys would love this. I have a 94 dodge 3/4 tn w/ a 10 cyl. gasoline engine. Gets about 6 mpg when tuned up, loaded or not it's always the same. Strictly a farm vehicle for us now!

I have a '08 silverado LT2 model...when it shuts down to 4 cylinders the only way I can tell the difference is when I see the mpg display...it tells you on the dash 8 cylinders.. then 4.... it doesn't sound different at all...once you get back on the pedal again it goes right back on 8... so pretty much anytime you get on the gas you're on 8 anyhow

I have an 03 Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab. It gets 18-21 m.p.g highway, depending on speed, and a little less than that in town.

I would give my left nut to be able to get 20 miles a gal. I have a 05 2500hd chev with a 6.0 and i get at best 14 miles a gal. I also have a 97 chev 1500 with a 5.7 and I get 300 miles a full tank 26 gals. on high way. Its bad!!!

By the way on myth busters the proved that tail gate up gives u better gas miles than with it down. Just thought that I would let u know.

Not ALL 6.0's are problems. I have an '03 F350 with the first run 6.0 and haven't had ANY problems with her at all. 105k for mileage.

I can pull around 19-20 on the interstated running 75mph, but thats also with the 6spd manual tranny and bone stock.

I LOVE my truck!
