I went down to the farm and checked the plot today. The millet has finally seeded out and boy are the heads big. The heads of the millet are anywhere from 2-6" in length. Hopefully the turkeys find them this fall. I decided to go ahead and leave the millet plot stand since several people told me deer would eat the seed heads as well.
The clover plot next to the millet is looking decent. Some spots look better than others. I mowed the plot about 2 weeks ago down to about 4-5" and the clover is reaching 6-8" tall again, but I am still seeing a lot of grasses, especially in the back half. I'll plan on mowing again in the next 2-3 weeks to try and cut back on the weeds. I don't think I will get rid of the grasses, but as long as the clover is there the deer should still visit the plot. For not using round up, the plot looks pretty good. The clover is starting to seed out, so I would like to wait until most of the clover seeds out before cutting again. My last cut will be sometime next month and then I will fertilize for fall.
What type of fertilize do you guys use on your clover plots to sweeten them up for fall?
On a side note, I checked my trail cam and got pics of two bucks, several does, and a trespasser
