Ive got a pretty nice place to shoot yotes but have never had anyone to go with. Plus I really dont know what Im doing. The place is in Pickaway county right next to state land. The state doesnt let anyone hunt there so there seem to be plenty of yotes. We seen a pretty good sized red one last year.

Man I would love to if you weren't 2hrs away! My girlfriends brother and I shot one last year after it killed one of their goats at home(Sandusky). We used what was left of the goat for bait in the pasture, knowing he would come back for more later that night. We put it right on top of this little hill where he would have to come up and we were about 50yrds on the other side. About 9:45pm the spotlight came on and there he was. The old 30-06 did a number! My best advise, even though I'm a rookie at it, its to get a wounded rabbit call, or a cheap electric caller, and a spotlight. Oh yea, a gun might help too:D

Jeff,
It is legal to hunt both coyotes and boar at night. It's illegal to do this during deer gun season and primitive season. ODNR website states "Coyote and wild boar: If hunted during the deer gun season, hours are the same as the deer gun season." There is also a big paragraph under it about more rules and regulations. You must wear the legal limit of orange, have deer permits and use shot no larger than #4 without a deer permit. This applies to both gun and primitive season. Also, where in Harrison county are ya? I don't know if ya seen my post to ya the other day, but I got a buddy that lives in Cadiz and I was just up there.

If you want to try to get to gether and give them a try I`ll go with you. I`ll tell you now though that I`ve yet to kill one and I spent a week in Idaho last winter hunting them. Some of the other guys got some but I didn`t. I do have a Fox Pro call and am set-up to hunt day or nite, but never seem to get out to hunt any more. I live over by Sidney, but if you want to try to work something out we`ll give it a try.
I know you the not legal to hunt coyotes came from, it way printed in the laws 2 years ago. I thought that that was the dumbest thing that they had ever done and sent an e-mail to the game department. I got a nice e-mail back saying that it was a mis print and still have a copy of it around here some place.

I was thinking of Harrisville on the east side of Cadiz. They surely should have coyotes w/all the strip pits around.
Catfish: do you tie down that Foxpro when you use it? I've heard they have a way of running or flying off? :D Don't feel bad I haven't got a coyote yet either. I have everything I need to hunt them, but a nite-lite. My buddy tells me not to give up, that my day will come & so will yours. (probably before mine). :o
Thunderflight: Maybe george was trying that "Coyote in Heat" lure? I don't know if I want to hear the "rest of the story."

Ive been wanting to learn how but have yet to do it. Does anyone live close to Morrow County? I have a really good property for deer turkeys and the last couple years I have been noticing a big increase of yotes. Send me a pm if interested. I have no night gear to really speak of but I can get it. I also do have 2 ground blinds. :)

ok i try to make long story short.i was usin a muzz at clelunns,a relative near strouds run state park.it was dark, snow an i had the dyin rabbit squeeker box set up.had a redlight shinin the field.2 sets of bobbin eyes are comin toward me,they git close an they are yotes.i pick up the muzz to cut down on one.ready aim...boom some thin hits me hard, knocks the gun out of my arms.picks me up throws me around like a rag doll, mulls me.then takes my gun an throws it out in the field, this thing is big an smelly,an hairy.it kicks me some then runs away, startin after the yotes.from all the hollerin an screamin i figure he gets them then he comes back into the light with a yote slung over each shouder.he snarles an comes at me again.i notice the yotes aint movin.he jumps over me an messes up my lights an off the lights go.i see the thing run off with the yotes still slung over his shouder.i fear hes comin back to finish me off.its really dark, cant see.finally after bout 10-20 min. i figure hes gone so i go look for the muzz an find it qwick.i pick up my stuff an make tracks quick an get in my truck.safe at last.i throw the muzz in the back an down clelunns drive i go to the gravel county rd.before i can get going.the thing jumps out in front of me,slammin its chest with its fists, jumpin up an down in the road.i'm settin there lookin at this thing an then it dawns on me the yotes are gone from his shoulders.also i get a good look at this hairy thing an it looks 7' tall at least.then i notice these little eyes, two sets bobbin up an down coming down the road toward the beast.finally they pull up to it,one sits on each side of the thing all glaring at me.finally the beast runs out of the road up the bank an into the woods .the yotes follow the beast into the woods.i hit the gas slingin gravel an got outta there.aint been yote huntin sense
