Does mowing clover significantly help reduce weeds in your plot? My plot as of 3 weeks ago was about 3-4" tall and the weeds were coming up here and there, nothing big though. Today I went down and the clover was as high as 7-9" in spots with weeds higher than the clover in spots. I went through and mowed the plot back to 4-5" high. Will this help reduce weed competition? Everywhere I researched it said to mow mow mow.

Should I mow again before the end of August?

it works great for some weeds, especially annual weeds. but some time it rejunvates certain weeds just like the clover. This is when you have to spot spray the weeds that keep coming back. The more you control the weeds, the more the clover will take over and weeds will become less of a problem.

I've mowed mine 3 times so far this year, once in May, once in June, once in July. The first time I mowed the weeds were terrible. They were taller than the clover, in fact at that point I thought the plot was junk. The mowing in June the plot looked great, not nearly as many weeds and the clover was 8-10" tall and very lush looking. I mowed to about 5" or so. I just went back Friday to mow it again. I had very few weeds and again the clover looked great, about 8" tall and thick.

So from what I'm seeing I would stick with mowing it. I try to mow mine when it's not too hot and when rain is in the forcast. From what I've read you want to keep in trimmed because it keeps it more tender for the deer. I plan to mow mine at least once more before season. I've heard that you want to hit it with fertalizer right before season. I don't plan to do that however $$.

You shouldn't need to fertilize it, if you do make sure you use a very low nitrogen fertilizer or you'll kill the clover.

Thanks, I'll mow it again next month.
