Anyone own this rifle? I just picked one up in .50cal w/ a Simmons Pro Hunter scope for very cheap. From what I've read from some other websites is that people have converted them to a 209 primer setup. Anyone else have this gun / setup? I can't wait to fire this beast :)
Here's some pics

I have the same gun, but in stainless with a Leupold 1-4 power scope on it. I have been very pleased with its performance. I stilll use the standard caps, but have been considering the 209 conversion. My buddy has the 209 setup on the same gun and it is quicker to fire. Good choice on your purchase.

$100 is a great deal for that gun. I have the same except in mossy oak break up. It is a very accurate gun, but not as accurate as my Thompson Center Omega. I took a doe last year during gun season with my Remington at 70+ steps. Dropped in her tracks. Now that I have my T/C, I'll be using it more and keeping my remington for a back up. The T/C I can put the bullet through the same hole at 50 yards.

What sabots/powder/primers are you guys using in the remington. I really think that the 209 conversion is the only way to go. Also how can I check(outside of talking w/ my friend's dad) if the 209 conversion has already been done or not? What should I be looking for on the firing pin and breach?

I'm no expert and maybe someone else would have a better setup, but I use 100 grains of pyrodex, 240 grain Hornady XTP? jacketed hollow points (I think they are actually .44 cal bullets but fit the .50 cal ml because of the jacket; I'd have to check the box), and remington caps. This combination provides me with great accuracy.
The primer conversion kit I am aware of looks like this:

You should be able to look at the nipple and see if it has the conversion kit.

In my Remington I use 100gr pyrodex and a 250gr Barnes Expander Sabot. The knockdown power I get with the Barnes is unreal. For whatever reason, I was having deer run off using those Hornady Sabots when hit in the shoulder. Not anymore.....................
I had a Rem MDL 700 for a couple of years. It was the most accurate muzzle loader I have shot.
One big problem is the bolt design. The blowback powder residue goes right back into the bolt and covers the main spring. If you don’t take the bolt apart and do a good job cleaning and lubing your main spring will be rested up very quickly.
I found that even after a few shots, the mainspring would become so fouled that it didn’t have enough power to fire the primer. Just a word of caution, tear the bolt down after every shooting session and keep those main spring clean!
My most accurate load was 130 grains of Pyrodex with a 240 grained aero tipped Powerbelt.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't gotten a chance to shoot the rifle yet, but I ordered my 209 conversion from Cabela's this week. So I should be receiving that pretty soon. Anyone have any experience w/ the Hornady Lock N Load sabots?

Here's an update to my orignal thread. I finally did the 209 conversion and got to sight in the rifle on Sunday(yeah right before opening day...lol). I went with two 50g Triple Seven Pellets and the 300gr Lock n Load Hornady Sabots. It was dead on out to 65yds. Didn't get a chance to shoot it any further then that, but I was more then happy w/ the accuracy and the instant ignition.
Monday morning I took a nice doe with my shotgun, (Mossberg 695 w/ Simmons Pro Diamond 3-9x32 w/ Hornady SST Slugs) so I figured the rest of the time I'm gonna try hunting with the ML. Well Tuesday morning I got a nice doe at 30yds lung/heart shot. She went no more then 15yds and dropped. So I'm more then happy w/ the stopping power of the Hornady Lock n' Load and very happy with the overall use of my ML. Even w/ all the snow I had no problems with it firing. I plan on using this thing every year!
