update......7/30/08.......

There's no quarterback controversy, just quarterback conversation.
Coach Romeo Crennel remarked on Wednesday that neither Derek Anderson nor Brady Quinn are as smooth right now as they need to be.

Quinn threw three interceptions in one practice last week and had another in Wednesday's morning workout during a rainfall.

"He's taken some opportunities to try to make plays down the field that maybe last year he wouldn't make because he would just take what the defense gave him," Crennel said. "But I think he has a better command of the offense and he's trying to anticipate when he can make the play down the field, so I think some of that has occurred."

As for Anderson, Crennel said, "He's got things he needs to do to improve on, also. He's not as smooth as he needs to be."

Maybe part of the problem is that the receiving corps has not been at full strength, with Joe Jurevicius out and Donte Stallworth missing the first week with a hamstring injury.

Crennel wasn't buying that excuse.

"When you're out there, whoever you're throwing to, you've got to make the plays," he said.

Not getting into that: Cleveland is agog over the Browns' offensive resurgence last year, when the unit coordinated by Rob Chudzinski improved from 31st to eighth in the overall league rankings.

Stallworth, of course, was the No. 2 receiver with a New England offense that shattered the NFL scoring record with 589 points. The Browns scored 402 -- third-most in franchise history.

"Uh, I won't make any comparisons," Stallworth said diplomatically. "We have the potential here to be exciting ... definitely a pretty good offense."

Stallworth joined team drills this week for the first time after starting camp slowly with a hamstring injury.

"I'm getting there, starting to get a pretty good comfort level with [the Browns' system]," he said. "It's a long process. We've got time. I'm trying to take my time and learn it. At the same time, trying to get comfortable with it."

Peek-a-boo: Linebacker Antwan Peek missed only two games last year with an ankle injury, but he played virtually the entire year with other assorted ailments. He sat out Wednesday's practices with a sore knee.

"I'm fine," Peek said. "I had [minor] surgery in the off-season and coach is just trying to give me a little rest to help me stay fresh. So far, I think I've had a good camp."

Said Crennel: "If we can keep him out there and healthy, I think he'll make a big impact on the defense and on the pass rush."

Giving back: Shoes and Clothes for Kids launched its 2008 campaign at Browns camp by giving away 100 backpacks stuffed with school supplies to children in need. Defensive lineman Shaun Smith and Crennel addressed the kids after the morning practice.

"It means a lot to me to be able to give back to the kids. I like to see little kids smile," Smith said. Fans are encouraged to donate money or new school supplies, shoes or clothing to the campaign. A yellow school bus is parked at the camp's main entrance to accept donations

Hall looks great at camp......their saying this kid may contribute in the NFL.

Who would of thought this late round pic would even be this far already????

On a sad note...Baxter after fighting back from having both knees blown out 2 years ago, has come back to make another attempt....but he had surgey within the last 24 hours and he may never play again. Had some cartilage removed.

I feel for this guy.......worked hard to come back and play...just a shame. Good talent too.

That was one ugly game...I hope it brought some folks back to earth. They should be embarrassed, preseason or not!
