I just received my Cabelas Visa statement and found out I have $30 towards my next purchase. Since I am getting ready to buy a fall food plot seed, I decided to buy from Cabelas since I can get my seed for almost nothing. I have narrowed it down to Green Patch, Ultra Forage or Cabela's Seclusion Blend. The area I am planting is a gasline right-a-way that runs through the North end of my families 100 acre property. I am planting an area that is about 110 yards long by about 20' wide. This plot receives filtered sunlight of about 3-5 hours a day due to tree canopy (I have cut some over hanging limbs down, but I don't know how much it really helped). Out of those three, which one would you recommend? The tecomate mix and Cabelas mix both claim to grow well in deep wooded plot.
Thank you for your recommendation.

I have only used the cabelas seclusion brand out of the ones ya listed. It was excellent for ease of growth but i never saw a deer touch it! I even threw corn right in the middle of a patch of it the deer got the corn never noticed any browse on the stuff i planted. I even left a camera on it for a couple months very few pics only deer passing thru never once was pic of any eating it. i planted it went back couple weeks later it was growing like crazy that stuff grew as high as 3 ft probly. Maybe others on here have used with better success but i'll never by it again.

I just checked my Pure Attraction (oat/pea/wintergreen brassica) which I planted in a strip about like yours under canopy with some opening. It was planted memorial day weekend and just checked it this week. Boy was it mowed down and full of deer tracks.

Hippiehunter,
Do you cage off a spot to use as a growth guage? We put small chicken wire cages about 2' in diameter in most of our plots. At first look it seemed like the deer were not really after it, it was about a foot tall. Then you looked over at the cage and realized that the stuff in the cage was about 2 ft high! The deer were just keeping it to a nice height. :) Don't remember the seed we used though...
We do this with everything we plant.

at that time i did not but i had a camera on it literally from late oct. thru early late feb. only time i saw deer in pics was when i put out a little corn i also looked at the leaves of the plants saw no browse (on rape, brassicas this would most likely be visible) like i said b4 though this crap grew great others may have better luck with it. This spring i planted a small plot with sunflowers, peas, beets and brassicas. brassicas untouched yet as expected, all the rest shot up and was mowed down except whats inside of fence about 3-4 ft diameter. tried going back putting up a fence about 30-50ft diameter too late for that batch. these seeds(SF Pea Beets) are super cheap too.
