Thats the worst thing about canines-They rarely finish what they kill. But again- Its the way it works.

The proper solution would be to snare the shizzle out of the vicinity where you found this kill. Lots more effective than TRYING to call them in.

Is it common for a coyote to only eat half of what it kills?

The sun-of-a-guns seem to be slipping in the area I live. I have seen more rabbits and groundhogs this summer than I have seen in a long time.

The reason your seeing more small game is the trappers and hunters and keeping the population down.

Summertime is not tough time for coyotes. Every herbivore is out taking advantage of the greenery, thus increasing the odds of a tasty meal for the canines. Coyotes are omnivores so in times of surplus they can pick and choose what they want to eat. There is more "good stuff" towards the rear of an animal vs. front. In the few deer over the years my hunting buds and I have left overnight in the woods where coyotes have gotten to them, all of them have been eaten starting from the rear. I’m guessing there is more nutritional content in organs vs. muscle.

Either way nice solution to the problem!!!!!

Calling them in, if you aren't good at just makes them smarter, as does snaring and trapping (http://hubpages.com/hub/Fur-Prices-are-up) if not done smartly. But a good hanging will usually stop the beasts, and they are not hard to find spots to hang a snare. Holes in the fence always do the trick eventually.

With gas prices (http://hubpages.com/hub/Lets-Get-Back-To-Living)going up the only benefit to hunters is that fur is going up as well.. Don't forget to skin your yotee!
