View Full Version : Henton Transfer

I sure hope this doesn't come back to bite the team this year! We are an injury away from real trouble at the QB position after AE transfers. Pryor will be no where close to being able to run the offense (he may know "his" few dozen plays in a few different formations) and needs work on his footwork & passing motion. Bauserman has a cannon and maturity, but he hasn't got any game experience.
I hope the coaches are getting TB to watch film of Krenzel so he can get in the habit of throwing the ball away. TB took a few too many unnecessary hits last year holding the ball too long. He will need to get rid of it when there is nothing there and avoid getting hammered. He is a big tough guy - I just hope he can manage to stay healthy all year, or the offense could struggle.
On a side note, with camp today I would expect we to see a couple more commits in the next few days. Would like to see Hyde get the FL guys rolling. Would not be surprised to see Brad McDougald from Scioto commit after camp; even though he says he wants to see Wisc and MSU again. We will see about Carter - I don't buy the rumor he will commit as I think he takes more visits down south. DJ Hunter is camping and I think the coaches will be straight with him and let him know we aren't waiting around for him. Should be interesting next week.

My sources are saying atleast 4 commits today that are atleast 4 star players. They are gonna squeeze these kids today because the class is filling up quickly.

I think we still have plenty of room - it is my opinion we end up with over the 25 limit this year. We have already talked about a grey shirt with a couple guys and at this point I believe 24 would be the minimum; I'd guess it will be 26. After camp settles down and the dust clears I don't think we will be spending much time on 09 prospects. Anybody left that wants in will have to make that clear either with a verbal, or more likely behind closed doors. We are already beginning to focus on 2010. We need a good QB for 2010 & that will be a priority.
Red - I se UM has picked up another stud with some speed. Can you see the league transitioning already - in 2 years when all these young guys hit the field there will be plenty of speed around. OSU, UM & PSU have all added some burners.

Henton will be on the fast track to the NFL at Georgia Southern.
Unless he gets caught asking "What does $20 get me" again. :yikes:

I wish Henton the best and I think he will do great down there. He will have the chance to play for his former high school coach who is now at Ga So. too.
He won't be playing in the heavy weight division anymore, but they are a solid I-AA program.
Things like this happen, but I would have liked to see him stay. He has some real potential and I think he will showcase his skills down in I-AA ball. I really liked where he was heading although he didn't look particularly good in the spring.
Cream - you're right, doubtful he will even get a glance from the NFL unless he puts up all world numbers. Another reason I think he should have stayed - our backups merit at least a look from the scouts, even if out of respect for the program. Henton would have had a chance to beat out Pryor/Bauserman next year, but even if he never became the starter would have gotten a sniff from the league.

Exactly. There are very few stories of a guy who leaves a 1-A team to play ASAP at 1-AA and makes it big in the NFL. Flacco left Pitt to play at Delaware and was drafted in Round 1, but who else? And we haven't even seen Flacco take an NFL snap yet. Speaking of Flacco, how in the name of all things holy did Tyler Palko start over Flacco at Pitt? I saw Palko play a lot on TV and thought he was bad, and when I saw him in person when my beloved Bobcats of Ohio U beat Pitt, he looked like a complete joke.

Well I am a little surprised, but the rumor mill was right on this one and Duron Carter is now a Buckeye. I figured all along he would end up at TOSU, but I figured he would enjoy another couple visits in the south.
Expect news to break regarding Carlos Hyde becoming #19 for 2009 very soon.
I also heard DJ Hunter has issued a verbal IF the staff provides an official offer (was none in the past). Not sure if the coaches have Hunter pegged as a "plan B" guy or what - I hope they jump on him. His brother was quite a player and DJ looks impressive on the field. I work a couple miles from his high school and have seen him on the track and the FB field and I think he could be a good one.

I was mocked on here for saying within 2 years that UM would be the Big 10's fastest team. I truly do believe that we are well on the way, atleast offensively. I do belive the Big 10 is changing fast. PSU is a sleeping Giant as well. If/when JoePa ever retires, they will start to cleen up on recruiting and it'll show on the field.

Some interesting news this week I see.
No Big deal on Henton...after Pryor committed I saw that writing on the wall.
They feel he can come in and at least compete...so it is pretty obvious they are pretty high on him......I would roll the dice on that one and go along with that decision.
Now Duron Carter, Cris Carters son, is not lighning fast, but has NFL Genetics and the skills to be pretty good. Nice Pick up. I think he runs a 4.65 40 if I remember right.
DJ Hunter...good speed and a 4.45 cornerback...good athletic ability...I like this kid from Middletown.....I agree with FHF on this one!
Carlos Hyde...last I heard he was still the #1 ranked FB...4.65 speed, and Florida State and OSU have offered......Not sure on this one.....he has the skills and athletic ability...not sure on how his commitment is on going to the next level.......we'll have to see how he develops....but he is the #1 ranked player at FB.....
and yes it is a run now for a spot...which makes many of these kids get serious quicker they they would like.....but OSU is drawing, and drawing talent very quickly.....so they have to start this process earlier now with OSU.
OSU has already started on 2010 as well.....several prospects for that class are being looked at.
Now mocked, smacked around, laughed at.... can all be the phrases you can use describing the comment on UM being the "fastest" team...since there are a lot of fast teams already out there in the Big Ten, and assuming OSU, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, and my intitial assessment that PENN STATE was going to be a tough team in the years to come will all improve...so yes.....you can say UM will not be the fastest team...they will be better...but unless they land some great talent in 2009 they would not be any faster than the other teams in 2010. Look at the class structure of the 2008 and 2009 recruits and go from there. It will show you the "light" ning speed at the end of the tunnel that these other programs already have committed to them.
Great to be home...even after 8 days in sunny Mexico, with The Pool Bar, Tequilla, Margaritas,Beach, Snorkeling and Bill fishing.......we almost landed a White Marlin on Thursday.....after a 25 minute fight.....the Marlin went airborn once again...... 30 yards from the boat and threw the hook.....what a rush...and what a fight......wish we could of tagged him......he was a real nice one.

i don't think it was the speed issue.it was the issue of um being in the hunt for a n.c. in 2 years.sure, they'll be fast:
"Our system will be fully implemented by next year. The QB we want will be there in 2009, but he'll be a freshmen nonetheless. Yes, I'll say by 2010 we'll be serious contenders for a NC. In all honesty, Rich Rod will force the rest of the Big 10 to rethink how they recruit. We will be the conference's fastest team in 2009."

It was both......speed kills...any coach that knows anything about coaching loves speed in any sport...it can be a game breaker, and you can do so many things with it. Many of the Big Ten coaches know this.
Every Big Ten team for the past several years knows they needed more speed...Tressel has been recruiting it for several years now.....so has Penn State, Iowa, Michigan State, and even Carr tried at Michigan......the only way to do it today.
OSU and many other teams will get faster as well...2 years from now is a pipe dream unless you have burners in your class today and in the 2009 class...and not just 1 or 2 of them...you need team speed as a whole.
I loved quick players....great when on defense playing BB, and I could steal at will on many teams when I had the legs to do it.....
National Title contender in 2010???? Who knows...anything can happen...look at Fresno State and Georgia playing for the National Title in the College World Series right now......both teams were not suppose to be there.....and OSU in 2002....heavy underdogs.
Fastest Team in Big Ten in 2010???? Who knows........even hell can freeze over too.

I'll stand behind my comments about us being the fastest team in 2009. The speed we are getting at the skill positions is crazy. As far as making a wager on this years game, I'll be a sport: Straight up bet. If osu wins, I'll provide a day long guided trip for Walleye on the Maumee River during Mid April next year. Just bring Waders, or I may be able to find you some. I'll provide all your tackle. You may want to bring your favorite rod.
Put up your proposal for your half of the bet. If your doubting my Walleye guiding skills, ask Crittergitter, he'll let you know. Although I'm not quite on his level, Swantucky will vouch for me as well. I'll Pretty much Guarantee you fish.

The speed we are getting at the skill positions is crazy????? Hmmmmmmmmm, I don't see that crazy speed difference comparing the classes of several Big Ten schools!!! Look at State below and compare.
I'll take OSU and a touchdown...since were slower....I might as well take the points since we will be under dogs then.  You game? I won't doubt your walleye skills....no reason to.....I hope your right anyway since your ability will need to pay off thebet anyway.....I might have mine all eaten by then and will need to replenish!!!!!
Mine is simple....I'll post on here in my signature line for 30 days that Michigan is my favorite team of all teams if we lose....30 days of you seeing my signature saying that.......
LOL.....Help me out here...just a litttle......just comparing State with Michigan The RB's and WR's alone arent faster that States......
State's Baker, Adams, Martin and Caper are all at 4.40. Winston and Ray are in the mid/high 4.3's.
Michiagn RB's and WR's....compare somewhat a bit BUT are not faster.....and that's State alone......3 4.40 players, 2 high 4.39 players and the rest 4.45 players or slower.
OSU Has Jackson at 4.31, Fields at 4.42,Pryor at 4.40, Thomas at 4.40, and the rest 4.45-4.60 players.
Penn has some speed and so does Iowa and Illinois..all in the same range....

Dee, most of the guys MSU gets and Iowa and the others are people UM and OSU don't offer because they lack "Elite" game changing ability. We probably could have had 90% of the players on those other teams rosters. I'm telling you, football speed is way different than track speed. I watch just about all these guys film and I'm telling you they are football fast. All the "Slot Dot" recievers we are getting are gonna stress every LB and Nickel CB on the field with their speed. We'll be playing a few more freshmen this year just to get more of that speed on the field and give us some advantage. You can have James Jackson for all I care. He has no "Wiggle" whatsoever, can't run routes real well, and has average hands. I'm glad you guys got Duron too. Seeing as we didn't offer him cause we're on some really great WR from the west coast that supposedly wouldn't give us a whiff. Oh yea, Shaquille Evans is his name:whistle: . Now come on, I'm offering a guided Walleye trip, that's all you got? LOL. Just Kidding! I'll take your bet. If we lose, I actually enjoy meeting some of you guys and I think everyone should atleast get to fish the walleye run at Maumee just once in their lives. I'll add something to it, If we lose, I'll even wear a OSU hat that day on the river. If you lose, then when you take a picture of yourself with a Deer you get this fall, you have to put on a Michigan hat and post it on one of these Buckeye threads.

I'm in on the bet...all options......and in all reality, UM didn't have a chance for Jackson and Duron...their at a diferent level and would ony go to an elite team like OSU, where thye have a shot at the NFL.....they used UM to leverage.
Shaquille is the same....Jamaal as well......
Look how many Michigan players State has....WOW!!!!! They stayed the course...and chased after good players in their state!!!
Jordan Barnes that UM just got...OSU didn't even offer...they looked at him but he wasn't the caliber of player they were looking for.
Tressel is just hammering commitments right now.......run away Tressel express.
Speed is speed...seen it at every sport and Ginn was a track star at Glenville...he show that classic stride of his on the football field...there is nothing diffeent from blowing the oppostion away on the track or the football filed. Speed opens the door for other options, as with a good set of hands and good route running ability....you have yourself a good wide receiver.
RB's have to have a vision and a "knack" for locating holes in the line in a split second as they happen....once that happens, speed takes over from there.....look how Chris Wells destroyed UM te past couple of years with his speed...the boy just ran by the defenders and all them boys saw was scarlet and gray in their headlights!!!!!
Your WR's won't have anyone to throw the ball to them for at least a couple of years...they'll be running routes and getting hammered downfiled as they criss cross the middle of the field looking for a hole trying to catch up to the mis thrown ball...if it gets that far......and the O-line gives the QB enough time to even throw it.
A couple of "head bangers" with our Linebackers and DB's and they'll be looking for some aspirin and a cold compress by the end of the 1st quarter...and Rich Rod will be looking like the pic above.

Jackson and Carter at a different level? C'mon Dee! We never offered Carter. We basically quit recruiting Jackson due to better options. We already have a WR that is way better than both of them in McNeil. You never offered Barnes, so what. We never offered Reid Fragel from our own state and you guys took him, same thing basically. As for QB, Threet will be our starter and If I remember correctly, he was an Elite 11 QB his senior year, which is pretty good. He was way more highly touted than Boeckman, and TB turned out pretty good, so we'll have to wait for the verdict their. Wells was fast enough to beat our poor safety play and angles, but I'd never call him "fast". Our O-line will be plenty good enough this year. All of them were 4* players or higher coming out, and were very good in the spring.

OSU never looked or offered to Mcneil(4.45 speed).....only Iowa did besides UM in the Big Ten...He's ok...but I'll take Jackson's 4.31 speed over his ability to improve his route running any day..that can be taught. Um offered Jackson...he just wanted to tie up with Pryor with 4.40 speed...those 2 boys should have Defenses running out of breath before the 2nd quarter is over. I'll also take Pryor right now easily over Newsome...
Carter is a hard hitting Hombre'..and runs pretty good routes....Smart kid...will learn fast...is committed to go to the next level, has NFL genetics.....UM didn't offer since Chris(his dad) went to OSU....so it's pretty logical where he was going.
Matthews will be a good WR for UM.....This kid has a shot to do something....if they can get a quarterback that can utilize him before he graduates.
Threet is a big kid and lacks speed..but he has a good touch on his passes. He's a freshman...recruited mainly by smaller schools and programs....transferred from GT....Ill, Wisc, Miami Ohio recruited him as well......
The UM O line will get hammered by TOSU and the other good programs.....this coming fall....look for teams to blitz heavily this fall and put lots of pressure on the line....I know OSU will be attacking that part of the team relentlessly come November.
Wells had enough speed to locate the hole in the line as devised, hit that hole, and out run UM defenses 2 years in a row.....for a 230 lb running back to do that, you can see why he is projected to be a possible All American!

Mike Hart is still my favorite UM player ever. The guy was the ultimate competitor. It's a shame the staff at UM couldn't come up with a better gameplan than iso right, iso left, throw towards the sideline on 3rd and long all the damn time. He did talk alot, but he never backed down. If you guys only knew the difference in overall preparation from Lloyd's staff compared to RichRod's, you'd be amazed. Actually, compare the old staffs way to OSU's or anybody else's and it actually sickens me. This is why I am confident in a fairly quick turnaround for our program. 8-4 is probably expected by most in 2008 and who knows by 2009-2010. Sometimes you guys act like our cupboard is bare up there. In actuality, if we go by the rankings, we've had better ranked classes probably 3 of the last 5 years. Our program just didn't develop thes guys like OSU's. For all the current commits you have, you'll end up top 5. We're gonna end up top 10 easy as well.

I know it might of been somewhat exciting for you, but that may have been the most boring game I've ever watched. Tressell probably coulda crushed us that day the way you guys dominated. :nono:
