We need to get to thinking on this so we can get a good bit of smack talking going on before the season gets here. I liked the idea of random teams, but what if we allow teams that are predetermined to enter as well? Can we have a $5 entry per team this year and use it to buy prizes? What about bonus points for yotes killed on a deer hunt? Just some thoughts I had today...

Probibly has to be random to not stack the deck.It surprized me on how many teams were really in contact with the team over the coarse of the contest.I got pretty lucky with who got picked on my team.

Randomly selected teams with no money exchange is the easiest for the owner of this site. Minimal input, maximal output

Hi all ! I would love to keep the same team as last for the reason of trying to better were we finished, we were middle of the pack and I enjoyed getting to know the team members. But new teams you get to meet new people as well. My thought last year was to have the hunters split this year by who got a buck would be team captains, hunters who shot multiple does go in the first round and continue down to make the four man teams. I would also try to split hunters in areas who hunt Area "C" not to be on the same team. Not that its unfair advantage they just get more opportinity to be in the woods due to having more tags to fill. Does any of that make sence?

bowhunter1023
06-03-2008, 05:29 PM
No way to keep multiple Zone C guys off of one team. The better part of the guys that participated last year are either from, or hunt, in Zone C.

I would say keeping multiple Zone A guys off of a team makes more sense because there are less of them and the have the harder go at it in hunting grounds and deer numbers..

Light day at work? :D

I like the coyote idea, but I'd say cap it at like no more than 3 coyotes per person. And I agree, I like the random teams. And the trash talking is ALWAYS fun. :mischeif:

Some good ideas, and not so good ones

Let's toss it around for a bit. I'm in and will help organize again this season if Ed's game. He got the ball rolling last year and I think he has some good ideas this year.

We have been discussing another contest running at the same time as this one. If we can put it together, and I use the words "if we" rather loosely...Ed did most the work last season and this is his idea for this year...it may or may not happen. This will be another "for fun" contest run concurrently to the 2008 OS contest. That's all I can say for now.

I personally don't think prizes or predetermined i.e. stacked teams are necessary. This a "for fun" contest, I'd vote to keep it that way. It was fun for me last season even though I didn't make a harvest for my team. Ed and I put a lot of time into managing last season's contest. We heard very few complaints. Can you imagine how much more time (more disputes) if prizes were offered? I'm commenting on what I think will work here. If someone should choose to organize something else, I got no qualms with that. I'm just not going to try and run it. jmo and I know they vary ;)

One idea I had was that the top 5 teams from 2007 would be broken up and put back into the draft pool and randomly drawn with what surely will be new and more names this season. The rest of the teams would have the option to stay intact. Those who don't stay 100% intact (i.e. all four members return and sign up) would get their names put back into the draft pool. These folks would still have the chance through the random draw to get on a team with a teamate from last year. Just a couple thoughts I had.

epe, keep an eye out for a new thread as a sticky in this sub forum. You can read back through this and the related threads and see how we did things last season.

From the looks of it, the best thing to do is run it like we did last year. I know Ed is a busy man, and so is Charlie. If you fellers need some help doing something, I'll do my part. Any chance we can get the sign-ups started soon?

Besides, the winning team cheated. (Just kidding of course)

We didn't do too bad considering you and I were the only ones to kill scoreable deer, and we still placed 4th.. Countryroad killed a nice buck but it was in gun season. If we could have got the other 2 guys to chip in we had a good shot at first.. Hell first place won with only 2 8pt bucks and 5 does.

I have met him, and he is a super nice guy. He's knowledgeable, and it's apparent by several of his posts on here that one of his priorities is passing along the sport of archery to others that have not been introduced to it yet. LOL! Da gone HL... I knows we are buddies!!! Thanks for the kind words. But old Mr. 5Cent couldn't pull my arrows on his best day. He has always been a few side-to-side deductions from being all the way there! Hell, I've killed more deer in one day with my balistic tipped crossbow bolts than he has in his whole life!!!

Now how is that for smacking talking?!?

In all actuality, I can credit 5Cent with having a big part in creating the monster that is today. We spent a ton of hours fishing, driving around looking for deer, and dreaming up schemes for getting rich in the business while drinking a few Busch Lights. Even attempted to kill turkeys, deer, squirrels, yotes, and Predator in Zeleski with this guy. Them were the days...
