Whats everybody thought on this one??I think its will be alright, its still cheaper than some states.

I still think ohio needs to get a sportsman tag that will cover everything so you do not have to pay for every different species you choose to hunt.

COLUMBUS, OH -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife reminds sportsmen that fishing and hunting licenses fee increases recently passed in the state budget bill will not take effect until March 2004. These are the first such license increases since 1994.

Ohio’s resident hunting and fishing licenses will increase $4, making the new price $19. Deer and turkey permits for the 2004 seasons will also be increased by $4 to $24.

As part of the ODNR Division of Wildlife’s efforts to expand youth hunting opportunities in the state, the 2004 season will offer reduced-price deer and turkey permits for young hunters. Formerly young hunters had to pay full price for deer and turkey permits. Starting in 2004 these permits will be reduced from the present $20 each to $12, half the $24 cost other hunters will pay.

“The ODNR in conjunction with many of the sportsmen’s organizations across the state asked the General Assembly to discount the hunting permits for young hunters. This change will make hunting more affordable for families with young hunters,” said Steven A. Gray, chief of the ODNR Division of Wildlife.

With this change, a hunter, 15 years old and younger, will be able to hunt deer in 2004 by purchasing one deer permit and a hunting license for a total of $22. Last year, the same license and permit would have cost the young hunter $28. The $6 dollar reduction was part of the total license fee package in the state budget.

Ohio’s latest budget bill also restructured senior licenses and permits. Ohioans currently 66 years or older (those born on or before December 31, 1937) will continue to receive free hunting and fishing licenses and permits. Ohio sportsmen and women who turn 66 after December 31 of this year will now receive their licenses and permits at half price.

i have no problem whatsoever, with the increase IF the money doesn't end up in the wrong pot.$19 is a good deal for what you receive, when you consider what a lot of people pay for other forms of recreation/entertainment.
i'm sure there are people who are against it,but i'd bet that some of them think nothing of spending 40-50 bucks a head,to spend one day at a so-called amusement park,or 10-20 bucks to go to 2 hour a movie and munch on a box of popcorn:rolleyes: ;)so 19 bucks for a full year of enjoyment on the water,is cheap in comparison.
just MHO.

Properly allocated funds will justify the increase. It would be nice see them try a SPORTSMAN tag to see how it works. However, I think they are engrained in the current system of doing things.

I'm happy to see that ODNR has reduced fees for youth licenses. Hopefully this will encourage responsible adults to include young sportsmen in activities.

I'm not really upset about adult license increases. I'll happily pay a few bucks extra, as long as the money stays where it belongs. Unfortunately, Ohio's governor has fiscal policies that are a disaster. I just hope that other state agencies heep their hands out of ODNR's pockets.

I doubt you'll ever see one. The ODNR would loose to much money by selling a sportsmans liscense.

Ohio residences really fork out the $$$$ to hunt and fish compared to other states. Most folks don't realize this until they move out of state.

Regardless, I'd still pay the money. Ohio has some really great deer hunting.

I guess the JOGGING AND BIKE PATHS in Cleveland and other areas must need updated. (WE PAID FOR THEM OUT OF OUR FISH AND HUNTING FEES.) O well , we also need to pay more for a spring Turkey season that's to late. Just my thoughts Jeff

I have mixed feelings. I would be all for an increase if it was going to fish and wildlife. The ODNR is in need of more income, but I'm afraid the reason why is the money is going to the wrong places in the first place. I also think they're going to lose some turkey hunters. The harvest numbers have been dropping the last couple of years and I'm afraid the bump in the price will convine some people it's just not worth it anymore.

I have no problems with the increases either. They're modest while some states are cheaper there are plenty that are higher with fewer opportunities. I also think it was a good move to reduce the costs to take the kids hunting. not enough of them involved these days.

The turkey numbers being down has been a mix of things and I think # of turkey hunters in Ohio will level out pretty soon anyway. There are lots of hunters and plenty pick it up thinking it will be easy because they see so many birds out and up close during deer season. Then they figure out it's not so easy and lose interest after a few unsucessful seasons. I've known a number of them that did that.

I like that they cut the price for youth tags but I think they need to look at other states and see that they charg more for non-res tags then a res and here they are the same. I will take my 14 year old son to WV this year and for $25 He can hunt for 3 Turkeys, a Buck with a Gun, Deer with a bow, and one with BP. With him still 14 till March he can also try for 3 doe's on the youth only hunts state wide.
If you look at the cost of a Deo tag in WV it is $8 for res and $25 for a non-res. I still feel that the ODNR should look at this frist before hitting the hunters that live here:confused: .
