There's been a couple pretty good threads on "the other site" about Rompola and his big white tail he "supposedly" killed back in 1998 or 99 (I don't remember which year).
Since we have several MI boys that hang out here I thought I'd see what your opinions and thoughts where on this controversal subject.
So what do you think?
Is it "live or memorex"?

The question should be is it a wild Michigan killed deer, sounds like people are just looking at the photo to see if the photo is altered. the contraversy was was it a michigan buck and not a pen raised deer from another state. I don't believe he killed it where he said he did. the storey was fishy or I should say deerie. he won't let any one test it, the deer horns would be worth a ton of money and if it was as he said why not allow the test's.

I agree. The proof is in the pudding. So do all the test on it as far as I am concerned (if I'm the guy who bagged it). If nothing else, prove yourself to be honest ... ya know???? Geeeeeez!

I agree 100%. Rompola says that he doesn't care what people think, but personally I wouldn't want the entire hunting world thinking I was a scam artist or crook.

Read that story on the other site.....seems to me that his refusal to have the deer's head X-rayed tells the hunting community that they don't really care what he thinks either:p ....TF

I think it's all a joke. The antlers are fake. The animal was probably pen raised. The guy wanted attention and got it. However, I wouldn't want to be notorious in the hunting world for being a scam! What if he were to harvest a "real" record class buck. Nobody would take him seriously. It makes me a proud Ohioan knowing the Beatty buck was a real and true record.

I can't believe that no one has snuck up to his house yet and taken a picture of it through the window.

THere is just something funny looking about those antlers. Just doesn't look natural or something. Maybe cause he used to much stain on the antlers maybe.

I really need to read that article in Deer and Deer hunting about Rompola. I doubt it'll change my mind, but I am curious. Besides I need to get a couple hunting magazine subscriptions going before I leave on cruise...:)

I must have seen that pic. a thousand times and never noticed his arrows. Holy crap those are full length shafts! I think he forgot about his bow and used the arrows as spears!!

In my gut, I am very skeptical, though I suppose anything is possible. His actions with wanting endorsements until they called for proof, et al surely are suspect though.

I read the article in Deer & Deer Hunting and it didn't convice me of anything. Well, ok, so I guess this guy has 1 or 2 friends who were willng to back him up. Also, he has shot other big bucks, but yet nobody cares because they don't believe him about the "supposed" record. I can recall when stories of the Beatty buck first surfaced there were all sorts of rumors. People saying "he got it with a shotgun but it was still only bow season" or that he was tagged out already and he used somebody else's tag. All of that nonsense what put to rest because of the way that Beatty handled the situation. One of the first things he did was call a game warden. Also, for security reasons the state suggested the buck be taken out of the state and measured, checked, and verified. He said, "fine with me." So, now he recognized world wide as having harvested the world record non-typical and the only buck ever to score over 300 inches. So, my opinion is that Rompola's buck is fake. I could be wrong, but it wouldn't be the first time.
