Looking at an outdoor wood burner, this will make a good down payment. We go through about 1000-1200 gallons of heating oil and @ $4+ a gallon it's going to be an expensive winter.

My uncle in NY has one and loves it. He claims that it has knocked down his heating costs quite a bit.

Geezer- I know that demon... 2 years ago I purchased a pellet burner. I get 18 hours of heat w/ the temp and fan set on medum. from one 50 lb bag. Around here, I get a ton at a time and pay $210.00 a ton.
Its saving me big time on the fuel oil. The first year I only burned 1 1/2 tons but this year I've burned almost 2 3/4 ton. I figure a 2 1/2 year period to break even and the unit will have paid for itsself in what I save in fuel oil heating my old "drafty" home. Now I only use the furnace to heat up the upstairs just before the family goes to bed in the winter. I love it. Easy to clean and it heats about a 1500-1600 ft area.I'm considering getting a nother one to tie into the ductwork in the basement to heat the upstairs...

I have a wood burning stove in the house that I put in last spring... It saves me $300-350 a month by not running the Electric HVAC system. I burned 9 cords of wood last winter from Oct to March. Nov through Jan it burned 24x7 never cooled down.
