I have had enough of this cats raiding my barn and crapping on my work bench. but what really set me off is one scratched the hood of my Nova.
I probably will do away with these things regardless of the laws but I was kind of curious as to what the law is in Ohio.

Have you thought of some kind of euthanization program ?

Yea I trap them in box traps and take them to the pound. Yhey put them down because they are unadoptable. Some of them have become wise to the traps to I'm thinking if I bait them and sit out there one evening I'm bound to shoot at least 4 a night I have a real problem.

You can shoot them.. The law states that you must be willing to pay the owner of the cat the value of the cat minus damages caused by the animal. If the cat is feral or out without a collar, or allowed to free roam it is fair game.. Especially if it is causing damages...
Shoot the thing and don't tell a soul.
Don't expect it to die quick. For some reason cats are like turkeys.. You hit them good but they'll still amaze you at how much they'll flop around.
Harsh? Perhaps…… If someone doesn’t like it.. Then take care of your freaking cats, so I don’t have to.

euthanization program huh...............my program consits of a 30-06.................. but seriously i have heard of people getting animal cruelty charges slammed on them for the same thing , stray cats getting into garbage or attacking pet cats.
i see it as if there is no carcass to find then there was never a cat to begin with;) ;) ;)

better check the laws for yourself...lots of bleeding hearts and with a good media story anythang can happen...and of course you will prolly be referred to as a hunter...which isnt good for our image...killing a neighbors cat isnt usually somethang that is a nice thang...some people are just blood thirsty...kill kill kill...but i'm not referring to you...cars getting scratced by cats isnt neighborly either...get a pic of cat on hood, have them pay for paint job...but in my case i dont know if that would be worth losing a friendship...i never found it hard to trap cats at apts...when i worked grounds there...but the media got wind of that and we got bad publicity in col. dispatch and discontinued the trapping immediatly...getting bad ink can hurt hunters image too...:D

Check with a local Chinese resturant. They might give you a good deal for a fresh kill.

These arn't the neighbors cats there wild dirty, smelly, and very mean feral cats with no colliers and matted fur. And if they are some ones pet which I doubt they are they need to be charged with animal cruelty. Its the same thing when people dump their dogs on the side of the road and they turn wild. these animals chase young children and harm sheep and goats along with other livestock. We can not have vicious animals running around its dangerous and problems like these need a fix.

Shoot them! Feral cats carry disease and not to mention all of the small game and birds they kill, among all the other reasons you mentioned.
I find it quite satisfying to whack down a smart old feral cat, especially with #4 BUCK from my 3-1/2" Benelli. These cats are survivors, and usually very hard to get close to.
I'm having a problem with my next door neighbor's dog.
I think the laws are different in this circumstance.
I think finding some roadkill + an antifreeze brine injection into the rotten meat might solve my problem :bouncy:

I agree wild cats can be a problem. Let's just say been there done that and leave it.
I don't think we need to post recipes for poisoning animals on a hunting site, jmho.

it is illegal to shoot and or outwize kill them even on your own property .
should it be ? hell no !
they destroy more wildlife than all other natural preditors combined.not too mention the mess they make just being around .
even if it wasn't illegal , some idiot animal rights nuttcase could have animal cruelty charges brought against you IF its found out .
that being said, dead cats tell no tales , bury them deeply .
animal shelters/humane societys won't take them if they know there feral cats , they know they can't be tamed down and made into a pet .
dispose of them properly , out of site , out of mind .
as much as we all hate the dam things , we don't need anymore bad views against hunters and trappers than we already get.
SSS , as mentioned before.

They are tough. I was over a girlfriends house some twenty years ago and one kept sneaking into the garage to get at the garbage. The second time I saw it sneak in, I came around from the outside and tried to get the garage door down (FAST) before it got out.
SLAM! Only his front half made it out before the garage door came down and the lock latched. So here I am in a pitch black garage with the cat making all sorts of crazy noises and it's back half freaking out.
I managed to get the door unlocked and when I lifted it up, I swear to you, that cat took off at mach 2 like NOTHING had happened at all. You could not slide a toothpick under that door when it was down and locked.
Still can't figure that one out. I thought for sure it was guillotined in half when it happened.

If you have a safe backdrop, I've heard hanging some smelly chicken from a line with a spotlight shining on it out of your window of the house. Then with the window cracked enough beside the light, you can slide a rifle out and pop them with them being blinded as they try for a free meal:shhh:

A 44mag would do it from the inside out...gets a bit noisy, though.
My uncle has had experience with them. He uses a cage trap that he baits with chicken livers or sheepshead skulls. Takes a few days sometimes, but he gets them eventually. After that, they go away.
Bottom line if people would look after their pets we wouldn't have to. Irresponsible pain in the arses. :nono:

I agree
shoot, shovel, shutup
However if noise is a problem a pellet rifle would do well, just take head shots.
I am all for getting rid of the feral cats, but antifreeze is a long and painful death.
This is from the Ohio Administrative code.
1501:31-15-03. Nuisance wild animal regulations.
(A) Landowners and tenants: It shall be lawful for any person to trap live, non-migratory animals, except white-tailed deer, black bear, or wild turkey when such animals have become a nuisance. Such trapping shall be in accordance with the following provisions:
(1) It shall be unlawful for any person to set or use a trap to capture wild animals, unless such trap has attached thereto a durable waterproof tag bearing the name and mailing address of the user in English letters legible at all times, or which has the name and mailing address of the user stamped into such trap in English letters legible at all times.
(2) It shall be unlawful for any person to possess such live-trapped animals longer than twenty-four hours from the time of capture.
(3) It shall be unlawful for any person to live-trap animals on the lands of another without first obtaining written permission from the owner or his authorized agent.
(4) Every person who live-traps a wild animal shall release such animal outside the limits of any incorporated village or city. Animals shall not be released on public or private property without the permission of the landowner. Provided further, raccoon, skunk, opossum, beaver, coyote, or fox shall be euthanized or released on site.
(5) It shall be unlawful for any person to sell, use, or give to another person, any animal trapped for removal in accordance with this rule.
(6) Any person who traps a wild animal in accordance with paragraph (A) of this rule, shall not charge a fee or receive compensation

Several years ago, my daughter was bitten by a cat while in Hocking County. The dog catcher and a sheriff's deputy said the same thing. "Shoot it. But try not to shoot it in the head so we can check it for rabies". Cats are tough critters. I've been at war with cats ever since...

Anyone remember the varmint jihad thread I started a million moons ago...lol.
Cats, well, turkey loads work real good.
But this hole "Shoot, shovel, shut up"??
After the 35 Remington goes through 'em...what part do you shovel?
