BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State coach Jim Tressel on Saturday helped Baldwin-Wallace College kick off a $2 million renovation at the private college's stadium, where Tressel's father coached football for 23 years.

Tressel and his two brothers — all alumni of the college in suburban Cleveland — donated an unspecified amount to pay for the replacement of the stadium's artificial turf. All three attended Saturday's groundbreaking ceremony at The George Finnie Stadium.

The field, which is used for football and soccer, has been named Tressel Field to honor Lee Tressel, who coached at Baldwin-Wallace from 1958-80, the school said in a statement.

Lee Tressel amassed a 155-52-6 record, won the Division III national championship in 1978 and coached his son, Jim, at quarterback from 1968-71. He died in 1981.

The project, which includes the upgrading of the stadium's locker rooms, track and press box, should be finished in time for the fall football season, the school said.

BEREA, OHIO -- On Saturday, May 17, 2008 Baldwin-Wallace College will break ground on a 2-million dollar renovation of the track and playing field at The George Finnie Stadium. At that time, the field will become known as Tressel Field. The ceremony is a part of the B-W Alumni Weekend festivities and the 50th Anniversary of B-W campus radio station WBWC, 88.3 FM (www.wbwc.com).

All three Tressel brothers, Dick '70, Dave '73 and Jim '75, will be in attendance and will speak to the crowd. At the present time, more than 100 people have responded to the Alumni Office regarding the groundbreaking. All are welcome and should call 440-826-2104 or 2742 to make arrangements or visit the Parent & Alumni Relations Web site at www.bw.edu/alumni/programs/res/.

Sports Radio WKNR (850 AM) and veteran sportscaster Kenny Roda, a 1986 graduate of the College, will dedicate his show that morning from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon to the Groundbreaking Ceremony. He plans to talk with the Tressel brothers, Bill Nichols, B-W President Richard W. Durst and Head Football Coach John Snell, former WBWC Faculty Advisor Ms. Connie Allen and Cleveland Indians broadcaster and 1990 B-W graduate Matt Underwood.

Later that morning, at the noon Alumni Weekend Honors Luncheon, veteran Cleveland sportswriter Bill Nichols, a 1962 graduate of the College, will receive an Alumni Merit Award. Nichols was a sportwriter for The Plain Dealer (Cleveland) for more than 40 years and is a member of the Cleveland Press Club Hall of Fame and received the prestigious Jake Wade Award from COSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) in 2003.

The Tressel Field Groundbreaking Ceremony also will be filmed by S&S Video Productions and linked to the College Web site at the earliest possible time. Parts of the ceremony, including interview segments with the Tressel's, also will be shown this fall when B-W airs all five of its home football games on SportsTime Ohio (www.sportstimeohio.com).

Later in the evening, the College will celebrate WBWC's 50th Anniversary on campus. WBWC has a long history of broadcast excellence among college radio stations and has received more awards than any other college station in the state of Ohio.
