I saw yesterday on the way home that there was a new indoor range in town and it was much easier to get to than the other one. I knew the people that ran it were a little "homely" at best, but I like good people and they certainly seem to be.

So I go in the old Krogers where they have this range and I see 6 burlap targets and a few dozen hay bales. I have to laugh because I expected nothing less from them. They are Rednecks afterall!!!

I give them my $5 for the hour and they have to inspect my arrows and the guy is blown away by my arrows. Then he falls over dead at my bow and sights. He was amazed at the sight light! So he gets his bow out to shoot with me and he has a 1970's era garage sale special. Now I'm not an Elitest, but when you go into a bow shop, you would expect the guy to know about a sight light, or Viper Archery, or to maybe shoot something from this decade. So already I know I still haven't found a bow shop I like...

We get to shooting and they don't have 5-spot targets and the burlap targets only have one dot. I brought new arrows and I just knew I would regret it. In less than 25 minutes, I busted 2 nocks, tore 4 fletchings, and busted two shafts. I Robin Hooded one and sent one clear through the burlap, through the hay, and into the wall.

I asked if I could bring my Block in cause it was going to get expensive to shoot there and the guy couldn't imagine why I needed to shoot at different dots on a target. It was like the Beverly Hillbillies trying to run Pebble Beach...

Some of the business practices in this area are just amazing, aren't they? I think the worst ones are the businesses that treat their potential customers like dirt and then wonder why those potential customers don't want to spend their money in their place. :nono:

Along the lines of archery shops, there was a great one (the only one I liked) 5 minutes from home, but the guy just didn't get enough business to make it worth his while. If you need a good shop to go to, Jesse, check out Boone's over outside Parkersburg. You probably already know it, but it is the best shop I know that is still alive and kicking. Whenever my buddies or me get stumped on a tuning issue or need any work done, we go there. Quality and service are excellent.

If you need a good shop to go to, Jesse, check out Boone's over outside Parkersburg.

John is one of the best bowmen I have ever known. He can do anything and he will do it right then and there. But he is the least personable person I have ever known. I don't like the "Country Club" feel they have over there. If you know them and go there all the time, they treat you like a King. But I rarely feel welcome over there except when I break the bow out and start laying it to the usuals. They come around when they figure out you're not a slouch...

The day is coming where there will be a bow shop that will put a hurtin' on Boone's. We just gotta get our presonal lives set before we take that one on...

I never got that feel from Boone's, but then again, I only go over there a time or two a year. I thought Uncle Bob's would put a squeeze on Boone's, but apparently not...since Bob's is out of business!

And I don't know that there is anyone who can top who I consider to be the least personable businessman I have ever come into contact with!

I had a beer and wore a big smile the day Bob's went out of business. There never has been a group of stuck-up Elitests like that bunch. There was one guy that I liked dealing with. He worked with the DNR in Athens some and he was cool. Knew a lot of people from my neck of the woods.

Other than that, everything was over priced so Bob could chase animals all over the globe to add to his "gloating" collection.

Yeah, I asked him one day where he killed the cape buffalo that hung over the counter. He looked at me like I was an idiot and said "Africa." Geee, ya don't say? :cheeky-smiley-022:

I did buy my bow at their bow shop, but that was about it from them.

That was typical of their attitude...

Other than bow tuning and a Columbia jacket, I never bought a thing from them. I was there one day and they had the exact same buddy stand that Wal-Mart had for $99. You know what they were asking? $139!!! That is why I never bought anything there.
