I took my neice and here friend fi****ng today at MCRD Parris Island. After several hours of not even a bite we headed home.
Sam (my neices' friend) asked if we could fish off the pier by my house. After a few minutes of fishing we caught two sting rays then called it quits. Both the girls where hoping for a nice shark, but hey,,,,,,,,,,,,,at least they caught something.
Here's a picture of Brittney's sting ray (she's my neice).

I have always been amazed by the number of rays caught by people surf fishing on the beaches at Venice FL. Yet none of the swimmers seem to be bothered. Last winter we saw a guy catch one that was an easy 5' wing spread. It pulled him up and down the beach for over a half hour. Everybody was laughing that the ray was trolling the beach and the fisherman was the bait. I thought the ray would have had better luck if it was using some sweet young thing in a bikini as bait rather than a 60 something retiree.

I think that is so cool. I'd be estactic if I caught something like that. But then again if I had time to fish I could be hunting.

Actually down here they are like vermin in the water. The biggen is actually pretty good size ray, but most of them are about the size of the lil one. They do get ALOT bigger.
On a lighter note. We went to the beach the day prior and I got bit by a crab in the surf....

If you get a perfectly round scallop at Red lobster, guess what thats a ray wing punched out with cookie cutter. Believe it or not.
