Don't you just hate when that happens? :irked:
He was drifting off when I left. If I had more than 15 minutes left, I would have changed my set up.
Rained all morning until around 9am. Found out I like my little umbrella thingy that attaches to a tree on a rainy day. Had a hen feeding amongst my decoys for about 20 minutes and anywhere from 10-30 yards out. Only thing she brought with her was a jake. Used him to practice sighting my gun on him, but I'm not interested in shooting a jake (unless he gives me a good run for my money). Never even had the safety off and let him leave.
Another time, 7 jakes came into the field as a gang (actually two different times), but 150 yards out. Both times they saw the decoys and made a big loop away from them. Definitely didn't like the decoys (hmmm, but the hen didn't mind at all?).
Then there was the bird that started gobbling around 11:30am. Came a little closer by 11:45am. Never did come close enough to even see the decoys (was in the woods behind me) and then drifted away so I packed up and left at noon.
To make matters worse, when I got home, I went into the upstairs bathroom where (with binoculars) I can see the spot along the edge of the field where I set up this morning. Three male turkeys in the field and one standing directly in front of my set up location. 12:38pm. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I sure hope they were some of the jakes from earlier.
