Looks like Melvin Fellows who gave Illinois a "soft" verbal early in the recruiting process has now switched his pledge to the Bucks! He is a great D line prospect - perfect body type, high motor, attitude, and huge upside.
Fellows sites that he gave Zook the verbal before taking visits to other schools. Illinois was the first major school to offer him (duh - they offered every kid that plays fb in Ohio!).
He still plans to take some visits and seems to be the kind of kid that is enjoying the process - I'll believe he is a Buckeye when his letter is signed.
If we do wnd up with him - he and Johnny Simon could make a great tandem!!! Fellows hung out with Simon during the spring game - I think that is what drove him over the edge to decommit from Zook and head to C-bus!

Ah,....Yes...#10 Defensive end rank, played here close to me in Garfiled Heights...6-5 245 right now and :yikes: growing.
Saw him play once this past year...nice prospect...and rumor had it he was wavering for awhile to OSU......Tressel Express continues to roll!!!

Now wait just a minute here!! What is all this CRAP Tressell and Joe Tiller of Purdue has been spewing about Rodriguez breaking the gentlemens agreement amongst Big 10 coaches to not poach another conference teams verbal comittments. Oh, Sweatervest is such an upstanding, morally centered individual. He's so perfect. This just shows you he's a 2 faced lying prick. The past 2 weeks he took every chance he had to jab at RichRod for getting a WR last year to switch from Purdue to UM when he took over. Lets see Bucknut nation put a positive spin on this one.

well,i haven't heard any buckeye faithful calling rr a "2 faced lying prick"
how's that for a positive spin??
but then again i haven't talked to any of the wva fans in a while either.
congratulations, once again you've displayed that typical wolverine class that's so rampant through out the u of m faithful!!

Jeffmo…I agree OSU fans and faithfuls handle this differently……shows the difference between OSU fans and UM fans.
Well, let me present the “real” facts about both sides on what each did…and then we will see the light.
Riprod…..recruited (called, approached, sought after) his player that had verbally committed. The unwritten rule was you don’t do that. We all deal with unwritten rules. Was he right or wrong? I don’t know….It’s a gentlemen’s rule between coaches. They can deal with it. UM fans need to deal with it. It has nothing to do with us, except we got Pryor straight up in head to head recruiting.
Fellows “called” Tressel and told him he has changed his mind and would like to join OSU. Fellows called Illinois and told them he changed his mind. Do you see sweater vest recruiting him here after he committed to Illinois?
Fellows communicated that in writing…I can point you to it if you want to read it for yourself…..help you work through how the Tressel Express continues to gather recruits, even when he isn’t trying.
Nope, nothing wrong here……facts are facts…. Sweater vest takes another one.

First of all, I am so glad that Red pointed this out (I probably would not have used some of the verbiage, but still the truth). Secondly, Dee, you are a trip...you act like you are an assistant coach at osu. Come on, buddy, do you actually believe that Tressel (or any Big 10 coaches for that matter) stop recruiting after a verbal? If so, you are not as knowledgable about college football as I thought. The letter you mention was written after it was suggested by sweatervest...he told the kid to write the letter in an effort to cover his tracks. Believe me. Those are the facts...get it right.
Now, as for the comparison of osu/UM fans...it seems apparent that you have never traveled out of the confines of Columbus/osu land. If you had, you would know that nationally, osu fans have a very poor reputation. Sure, they travel well, but they act like idiots. Now, I know that is not the majority, but he severity of the crap that the few pull casts a terribly negative shadow on all osu fans. I am sometimes embarrassed that I am from Ohio because people nationally think it is an Ohio thing, when the truth is it is an osu thing.
Get with it buddy...most of the time I really value your insight, but you are all screwed up on this one.

Anybody, regardless of team affiliation, takes a "holier than thou" stance on the morals and ethics of recruiting is making a big mistake. As much as we all want to think our program is clean, the truth is they are all dirty.
And I agree about some bum OSU fans giving the rest of us a bad reputation. I don't like it, either.
Nice cheap shot with "osu/UM," too. Good use of capital lettering to subtly get your point across. :coolgleamA: Sort of like APP ST/um. :bouncy:

Since you initiated this attack.....I guess I'll reply.
Since you guys want it laid it simply...let me do so.
Lacure...read your post and how you state your views on the last couple and read ours.....it is very evident, that we present ours better......I value yours too...but you are way off on this one..... too.
Lacure......bottom line the letter was written by the kid...did Rich Rods recruit write one????
Attitudes we see here from you really reflect no substance on what UM has done on the field in recent years.
UM has not been on the same playing field as OSU for years, but you talk about how great UM is. It really is supposed to be...WAS.
OSU AND IT'S FANS HAVE EARNED the bragging rights right now...from playing and winning. We can brag all we want...our team has earned the reputation of being a winner...not 15 years ago...not in the past..... but now. The Team andthe program and the school have earned everything they have today from the past 7 years.
Big Ten Champions
3 BCS appearances in the last 6 years
1 National Championship in 2002
4 straight wins over Michigan
6 of the last 7 over Michigan.
12 recruits committed already for 2009
I can go on......
The program has earned the ability to say we are better, and on the field, they have proven they are.
Get out there and earn the right like we have.....play the game like we have, beat our program....come and earn the abilty to talk the talk and walk the walk. We have.
Then come in here in the OHIO forum and brag all you want...you would of earned it by then. All this now means nothing. There is no substance.
I am not the one going to the Michigan Forum and blowing smoke up their fans arse about how good OSU is.......I'm here...in the OHIO forum talking about many positive aspects of OUR team.
You would think someone like yourself, coming into this forum of OSU fans would address the current faithful a tad differnet since your more of an outsider.....so to speak.
When we lose...we lose...no excuses...Illinois beat us last year...you know what...that day they WERE the better team. So be it....we move on. We still played for the Title, and UM was suppose to be there...not us. We exceeded our expectations, and UM did not meet it's expectations as a pre season favorite to contend.
Appalachian state beats UM and all I hear is how good they were, this and that etc.....many of us heard the drill over and over again, it's getting pretty old.
You lost to a Division IIA school......accept it and move on.....every fan is not perfect...you have your share as well....accept it.
Natonally it is apparent your UM team has a reputation on not living up to it's excpectations as well.
If your embarassed to live in Ohio...you can move. I always tell someone eliminate the issue that frustrates you...there are 49 other states.
I won't stoop to the cheap shots...I'll just keep laying out the facts. Maybe when I am having fun....I will.
This is a VERY GOOD Buckeye Program, in the BEST STATE in the country....I love living here, even with it's opportunities.
Michigan is North of us......you can get real estate fairly cheaply now.....maybe you can help with their porgram....get them on the right track.

What facts have you laid out? All you do is point out like "We beat you head to head for Pryor". You sound like a kid saying my Dad can beat up your Dad. I have been fairly docile recently on here, but, THERE IS OR NEVER HAS BEEN A GENTLEMANS AGREEMENT. I have no problem with what Tressell did with reguards to recruiting. Every coach does it, and they do it all the time. All a verbal does is let the other teams know who they have to beat for the kids services. For the record, Roundtree begged UM for a offer all year long when his teamates were offered. But with the old staff, he didn't really fit in. Then when the new staff came, his teamates told the new staff that he'd most likely comitt to UM if they offered. The problem I have, is Tiller and Tressell took cheaps shots at RR for 2 weeks every chance they had, and then he turns around and does the same thing. That is 2 faced, hypocritical, or whatever you want to call it. On the night before National signing day last year, Tressell called 1 of UM's verbal comitts, Patrick Omameh, and OL from Ohio, and offered him, trying to sway him at the last second. You guys can spin it all you want, but It's fair game until they sign. If everybody wants to change it, they need an early signing perion like Basketball for the kids that don't want to deal with it. As far as Appy St, that was a blessing in disguise. While it was an embarassment, it finally opened the doors for new blood. It all but eliminated the Country Club atmosphere that had made the program go stale.

Guys, this is crazy. I know I am a Michigan "homer," living and born/raised in Ohio, but this is hilarious.
Here is the deal...I am willing to concede that osu has had a better record over Michigan over the past 7 years. I am also willing to concede that osu is poised to have a good year this year. However, that is where it ends. Michigan owns osu in overall record (say what you want about years prior to whenever, but it is what it is). Michigan holds a better national/international reputation than osu (if you ever travel outside of osu land, you will see this). Michigan is a MUCH better academic institution than osu (for whatever that is worth).
The reality is osu is enjoying a nice run...it too will end (as did the Michigan owning Cooper era). Trust me. If you think Michigan will be a non-factor in the Big 10 or National landsacpe in the next 5 years, I say keep dreaming. Live it up while you can because Michigan, regardless of what you dream, will always be a national powerhouse. My boys will be just fine and RR will revolutionize the conference. Sweatervest will be wondering where he went wrong within 4 years and thank osu fans for their support as he retires in light of his inability to compete with Michigan by 2011. Mark my words (o.k., maybe it is wishful thinking, but I had to say something :) )!

IMO, u of m will be looking for another head coach in 4 years. NO nfl team uses the spread O and JT is recruiting speed at every position on D now to negate what RR will be trying to do. And the top recruits will see the lack of success on the field and in the NFL draft and head else were. And not necessarily to tOSU.
u of m had better concern themselves with MSU for now and worry about the Bucks in 2 years.

Lacure and I even concede the fact that OSDU is/will be better for the next couple years. Then all you do is keep needling about stupid stuff. Now, will RR do great things at UM? You have to believe he will. Everywhere he went he has made teams into national powers. And usually it was with way less talented kids. His system works, and gets the absolute most out of everyone who buys into it. Trust me, they will start passing alot more out of his system.

Now in regards to UM fans bringing nothing here.....well I keep hearing the same old story about long ago how good they were and how they are going to be...and I don't hear how Good we are and we own UM...
And I see I am still seeing it again tonight.....bottom line OSU continues to domiante UM today, last year, year before and until UM can field a team to compete...in the future.
and UM will not have the fastest team in the Big Ten IN 2009.....Rip Rod never had the fastest team in WV.

Well, only time will tell on the speed subject. If you compare the recruits Rich Rod has brought in at the end of last year and at the beginning of this year, it isn't even close to anything anybody else will be putting out on offense in a couple years. This is too much fun. I like all this, it totally reminds us all why we hate the other team, but respect the rivalry. After everything we say, I'd still like to share deer camp with any of you guys or a day on the water.

Wisconsin won't be that great next year. Not saying we'll beat them, but they won't win 10 games. And I do agree that Dantonio is a good coach, It's still MSU, and they really do lack Elite overall talent. Illinois will be scary for alot of teams next year. They were a very young team this year, and virtually have everyone back. I'll just put this out there so you guys know I'm an equal opportunity hater, Ron Zook and his assistant that he hired from Maryland (name escapes me), are 2 of the absolute dirtiest recruiters out there. His assistant has been reprimanded (whatever that means) by the NCAA a couple times for recruiting infractions. I'm talking about Cars, Cash, phony jobs, prostitutes, you name it. So if you wonder how he all of a sudden starts pulling in all these high school all americans, you'll understand.

Michigan ALWAYS (even in the Cooper era) considered MSU their #1 rival. I would have not believe it until I went to school there (having been born and raised in Ohio).

Good night! I just posted recruiting news - didn't expect all this:bouncy:
As far as recruiting is concerned - every coach recruits the kids they want regardless of whatever other coaches are recruiting them. I feel sorry for these kids that don't enjoy the attention - they get fed more crap than a feedlot.
As far as the matchup, I expect to wipe the field and dominate the game this year. UM will be playing a bunch of overmatched unexperienced guys.
The guys for UM should be much better next year after a year under their belt, but I don't expect a BCS game or anything like that. By the 2010 season if they are going to be winners with RR's system it should show. They should have everything in place and plenty of experience on the field. If they don't compete to win the league and play for a BCS game in that season, UM fans should (and will) begin to question the new coach/system.
If they don't compete for someting big by 2011, unrest will begin. Only time will tell, but I think they will win games and climb back into the picture with RR.
I think Zook and RR will help the Big Ten evolve and eventually improve. I envision a league where you will need to be fast and stout; you will need to be able to stop the spread, read-option type attacks as well as the traditional power formations.
As far as RR being the end of Tressel - I highly doubt it. I think Tress & Co will win their fare share even after RR has everything in place. I would expect to see more balance than during the Carr reign with neither team dominating the series in the fashion we have the last decade (looking ahead 3 seasons I would expect at worst a 7-3 record and more likely 8-2)
Deehntr56

Why Not FNF???? Got to keep it "lively".
I agree...personally RR will elevate the competitiveness and it will be good for the Big Ten overall.
Tressel is smart he knows the game and what it will be like in the near future, with the likes of RR, Illinois and again Michigan State(Watch out for some of the recruits at running back they have coming in)...he is already recruiting and working on handling the situation. He is a student of the game, and being educated from Baldwin Wallace(My Daughter is graduating there this May 11):D :D :D He has the intelligence to adjust and put into place the right changes to move forward in the future. It will be competitive for sure!
Now if he can figure out on how to get a SEC win....he will then accomplish one of his biggest negatives of his program......and OSU's program......only time will tell.:D

Now with another O lineman and Boren's little borther we are up to 14 recruits already - amazing! Times are changing - I just can't remember having 14 verbals at this time!

You are correct...I can't remember ever having this many this early...and people were saying we were going to lose recruits to up north.......
It seems like we are picking up more.....but in reality, it's due more to the success of the program and the better odds of making it to the NFL that is attracting them.

Wow. A fair and levelheaded post from a Buckeye. I've been talking on here for a little while and admitting that OSU should play for a NC the next 2 years. I also stated that I think Richrod and Zook will help the big 10 evolve into a better conference. You are the first to actually admit that UM will be good again. Everybody else just basically constantly disagreed and wouldn't admit just a little that there was a chance in Hell that UM would ever be good under Rodriguez and compete. As for recruiting, it is starting to become an "earlier the better" mentality with coaches and recruits. OSU has been ahead in this game recently. Urban Meyer and Pete Carrol started the change. I do believe that OSU will win somewhat easily this year and next year to a lesser extent. Hence, why I wouldn't bet someone on here who constantly begs for someone to take a monetary bet. On 1 hand, they speak about the greatness of OSU and the patheticness of UM, but still think a UM fan should take the bet. They insist that I and Lacure say UM should beat OSU this year, when we've actually conceded what should happen. As far as those pissing matches, I'm done with them. It was fun at first when a few of us were talking recruiting and how UM should improve over the next couple years while OSU is competing for National Championships. now all it is is "we're better than you" crap.
