Anybody puttin' the smack down on some birds? I can't get out again till the weekend. Struck out Monday and couldn't get a bird in for the neighbor kid during youth. Seems like the birds I scouted up till youth are either henned up something bad or moved. Can't seem to figure it out! Logan county is some tuff bird hunting!:dizzy:

Their definitely out there. Went with a buddy today to hunt some public land in Southern Ohio, he shot a 18lb 10" beard at 0745. Heard two others but everything shut right down after 1030.

went out this morning and had birds gobbling good on the roost.got my decoys out and it was still dark, birds gobbling on their own and BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!the guys on the Mead lease shot one off the roost. It got daylight and they decided to walk out on the farm I was hunting.Gave them an ear full and ran them off. When I got to my truck they drove past, flipped me the bird and went on.Got their plate # though :D

Trackin13,
My buddy was down there the first day and saw a gobbler quite ways off in a food plot come out of the woods and walk across the field into some more woods. We hit that spot the next day and there you have it.
I have killed planty of birds without knowing exactly where they are roosting. Often time just knowing the general area and paying attention to the topography and cover will let you know where to set up.

OHBOW 76,
Do you hunt in Logan County (your buddy).............what part? We were out on the 4wheelers down some old train tracks.....shut em' down for a while and could hear a truck on the road....about 3oo yards out owl hooting. With the truck still running! We don't hunt the woods (can't get permission) but I use to see turkeys there every morning on my way to work. Seems like we have a bunch of road callers in our area. I actually called to a group of birds we watched in a field to have them head the other way. I think your right......have to slip in on em' and stay silent.

Trackin13, No, I have never hunted Logan county, mostly Ross, Greene, Clinton....I confronted the guy beeping his horn, he told me that he had heard beeping your horn can get them to gobble, so I told him politley:whistle: that getting in the woods and calling also works.

I killed a 21lb -10" beard Tom on Monday morning at 7:45 and on Tuesday killed another 21lb 9-3/4" beard Tom at 7:00 am. Done in 2 days. Also, 3 other guys in our group killed nice birds on Tuesday morning. On Wednesday I took my neighbor and called in a 17 lb jake with 5" beard and he got it, only his 2nd bird ever. On Thursday morning I went hunting in Indiana and at 7:00 am killed a 19 lb bird with an 8" beard. I plan on taking my 12 year old cousin out Saturday morning to see if we can keep the streak going.:D

OHBOW,
On the way home from getting skunked opening day, we swung into a buddy's house (he don't hunt) and he told us that we should head out to his parents in Clinton county. He said it's common to see 50-60 birds on his parent's land. Are there some good bird populations that way?

The population has seemed to really take off on a lot of the places I hunt in Greene, Clinton and Warren counties. I have seen a lot more birds than I used to in the last few years. It's just knowing where to look.

I killed my biggest bird ever 24 3/4 lbs and 1 1/4 spurs and a 11 in beard .I was working for a lady that owns 80 acres and she said I could hunt if I wanted to.
I was working around 11:30 and heard him gobble behind the house so I snuck around him and called he strutted and gobbled in to 15 yds.
