Someone from the ODNR told a friend of mine, they are considering a draw type hunt, in southern OH for bear. There is at least one trouble maker down there at Salt Fork.

Didnt see it but my son and I both heard it. We were in Tar Hollow building ground blinds in the Spring 2 years ago. Told the Park Officer he says he sees about 1 bear every year and they are usually not the same bears. A couple guys I know who guide hunts around and in Tar Hollow say they see about 2 bear every year. Bears and very secretive. Proly wont see one unless he doesnt see you first.

Bears are pretty secretive.
I was stationed in Eastern North Carolina and from what I understand that area had a pretty good bear population.
I had a friend who used to bow hunt them. Since you couldn't bait you pretty much had to wait em out. He said bear smell very good and you have to be VERY clean and watch the wind. Nine times out of ten that bear will know your there long before you'll see him.
My you could have had numerous bear around you and not even known it.

Check out the ODNR website. They have a nice piece on Ohio black bears in there. It also says they have no plans for a hunting season. They just say that you will have to learn to live with them.

A bear season probably won't happen in any of our life times, but our children's children might have a chance.

There was one hit here in Geauga County last week. The Orwell Twp police took pictures of the thing before they put it out. They even put the pics of the suffering bear up on their website www.orwellpolice.com . The photos are very graphic and disturbing as the police felt that photos were more important than putting the bear down first. I sent them an email to that effect, but they didn't care to respond. It was a nice male approx 240 lbs.
