If you have one of those furnaces that give you the lets you add humidity to your house DO NOT USE IT. I left my .22 in the basement after we got the new furnace with the humidity control up and the barrel has surface rust on it I kept this rifle in the basement before and have had no problems with rust. The deck of my delta drum sander and the drill press also have surface rust but it came off with a little steel wool. I turned the humidity control off on the furnace. I’m wondering if I should have the rem m597 .22 reblued though.

That'll do it.. I have a Star Megastar .45acp on my nightstand and my wife (wile I was out of town) moved the humidifier from her nightstand to mine.... I came home a week later and yep, rust. No pitting but I had to take most of the finish off to get it off....... Oh well thinking about doing a snakeskin on it anyway.

I should get a safe with a humidity control.

a basement will usually be alot dameper compared to the rest of the house.i always store mine in a soft case with the muzzle down.
