Shirley Irene makes trip for first time since Jan. 25
By JAMES PROFFITT

For the first time in more than two months, the Shirley Irene made the trip between the Marblehead mainland and Kelleys Island.
With the recent rise in temperatures, the ice near the shores at both ends of the route finally allowed the Kelleys Island ferry to make safe passage.
The last regular ferry run was on Jan. 25. Since then, residents on the island have been stuck, unless they flew off the island.
Even though fuel costs have increased fares slightly this year, Stevenson said he feels the 2008 season will be a good one. "Based on what I've been hearing I think it's going to be a pretty good season," he said.
