For me, every year there is a huge let down when the season ends. I live to deer hunt. Some guys say that, but it is often an overused expression. I deer hunt 365 days a year whether I am out there, or I am simply planning my next move. Last year, I was in the woods doing deer hunting related things over 250 days. If I’m not scouting, checking cameras, or monitoring my property, I’m hanging stands, plating food plots, or doing other habitat management procedures. And that’s just when I’m not actually hunting…

I was having a hard time getting excited for this upcoming season because this is going to be one of the most hectic years of my life. I am busier than ever at work, my fiancé graduates in 6 weeks and we have to move her home, turkey season will be in, then I start baseball, we are planning a wedding, I hope to be attending bow shoots across the state, I may be racing quads towards the end of the summer, I am helping my parents prepare to move, and I knew I would have to find time to get ready for the season.

I started looking at my spots yesterday, and I started getting excited again. I planned a work party for this Saturday and I have big plans to be ready for the season before March is ever out! I have a buddy and his wife, and two other buddies coming out to spend the say. I have six sets up right now and I am moving four and pulling two for good. We will be creating bedding thickets, opening up a new area to be planted in August, hanging the new sets, and clearing entry/exits routes as well as shooting lanes. I should not have to do another thing out side of monitor the property and check cameras until August when it is time to plant.

Needless to say, the fire is burning strong again!!!

I will still have to find time to get to my other property, but all I need to do there is hand two sets and I am ready. I think I can find time for that between now and the end of September!

I was the same way.

At the end of the season I'm planning next years game. I would start clearing shooting lanes now and preparing areas for hunting the following season. I'd help the base game warden plant food plots and hit all the local 3D shoots.

When turkey season was a month out I'd make frequent scouting trips to see where the birds are and what areas were worth the effort. When the season opened I wouldn't think nothing of getting up at 0300 to grab a good spot before someone else showed up.

Come summer I'd plant my "covert" food plots, start monitoring my hot spots to see if the biggens were still around, put out trail cams, build ground blinds, and start corning areas I wanted to hunt.

Last year really put a damper on things and until recently I wasn't excited about our up coming turkey season at all. I guess at times your priorities shift, but if it's in your blood the fire will always re-kindle.

It's probably a good thing that I'm not going to be here for next years deer season. If I was I'd never get anything done around the house. I've got a jar full of brownie points from doing "honey doo's" so I should be good to go for at least one or two days of turkey hunting.

Already looking forward to the storys and the photos!

We drove back east for a long weekend. Some play slug bug, we find deer in the fields, we were well over 200 before getting to our location. We were at Ft MaGuire in New Jersey, more deer on this base then you can count. The son wont be TDY this hunting season so man I am pumped. Oh and the turkeys were all over the place. Im ready for the season.

Hope every thing works out! Feels good I don't have to worry about that stuff yet. But I need a job :cheeky-smiley-022:

I am also excited! Excited for spring. Excited for turks. Excited to start preparing for the upcoming deer season! Excited to see all the stories you all share with us. It's gonna be a fun year I think.
My sis is having a new gas well put in behind their house right now and they just cleared a 100x100yd area in the middle of the woods. Looks like a terrific spot for a food plot!

Also I bought a used canoe. 16 footer with paddles and vests for 150 bucks!!! It's in great condition! Luckily, I drove past the guys house an hour after he put it by the road or it probably would have been long gone.

Hudson, I sent you a PM. Not sure about the gas situation, but I work in that field. I may be able to help you to get the gas company to plant that food plot for you if it ain't too late. I have done it before for one of my landowners...

Excited to say the least. So much to do between turkey season, bear season, scouting, trail monitoring, and doing food plots I just can't wait to get back into it. Hopefully this weather breaks soon or we'll be chasing after the turks in the snow. Either way I'm gonna get done. Its all right around the corner.

I'm the same way, Jesse. We may only be able to kill 'em for a few months of the year, but there is always something deer-related I'm into. I pretty much run cameras 24/7/365, feed deer, put out minerals, work on plots, scout, shed hunt, shooting bows...the list goes on and on. It is definitely a year-round obsession for me. And I don't see anything wrong with that! :mischeif:
