Cant tell the actual beard length but he looks like a Jake, prolly not the dominant bird in the woods. I always get out late march and watch them perform there pecking order, I usually see this in large fields. I generally spy on a few and make a mental note on how many mature Toms are in the woods and what I could expect to see come season.

That is definetly not a jake. From the pic he has atleast a 7-8" beard, maybe longer. I have never shot jake with a beard that big.

That looks to be a 8.5 inch 2 year old bird and not a jake. Turkeys eat alot of things but mostly bugs(anything that moves!), seeds and crops! As above, hunt them during turkey seasons!!

take a walk in your woods ,look around for places the turkey have been scatching around.you should see these spots easy .see what they are diggin up .up here in geauga county i have seen them diggin up flower beds and our garden when the ground is frozen with 2 feet of snow and ice they will dig and eat most anything of nutritional value .like bmiller says as the norm bug, grubs and worms and corn even acrons .the ones at my house roost in my pine trees and when the weather is like this i have seen them eat pine cones.putting out corn will bring them in ,i get them in my shed traps every night .
as far as hunting you have to hunt wheen odnr tells you you can hunt .check the times also .during some seasons you can only hunt from noon till dusk .so read them carfully .good luck and happy hunting

They feed on fruits, seeds, greens, grasses, agricultural crops, and insects. Usually in the spring months during hunting season they mainly feed on grasses and seeds.
