Was out Sat. going to make a yote set. Heard a faint gobble. My buddy an I thought what the heck. It took around 20 min. Dumbest turkey I ever seen. Obviously he had never had contact with a human. Were just standing in corn stubble, I just keep popping the caller, an he strutted 3 circles around us, within 5' . This went on for another 5 min. Finally I hit the dog hollering call. That dude went ballistic. It was just to funny. Beard was only maybe an inch, and had 1/2" spurs. Seriously, he was that close.

MARCH 1st is a great point to start..I heard one above my house on Feb 14th this winter..guess he was being romantic for the day... we shortly will have 12 hours of light and dark..officially it's the 20th but it seems that when the days are about equal in light and dark that stirs it up..and that's about right now here in PA..they are both about 20 til' 7 or so...these were taken during the OHIO muzzleloader season..big toms are in full strut on DEC. 30 or 31, can't remember..but they are in STRUT...

Frank I just seen a field of turkeys like that just yesterday along St.Rt 33 where you get off to go in to Bellefontaine, Ohio .......... I think that rout I got off on was St.Rt.540. Iwas on my way back home from working all day at my daughter's place in Columbus, Ohio. I also seen a boat load of deer last night on my way home. The one big group of deer I seen was over around the Honda plant and there must have been 30 or 40 deer in that group. Cars was stopping along the road just to look at all of them.

don't bother until one week before season starts....patterns change as quickly as the spring weather so birds can move out of one area into another just before season starts.
i've scouted the weekend before the youth hunt and on the saturday of youth season the birds were in a completely different pattern....this is what i liked about taking my kids on the youth weekend, i learned a lot prior to the opener the following monday! usually got my son a bird on the weekend and had mine located for opening day....worked like a charm for several seasons!
