i am not a fisherman but my brother in law is ,he raises fish .so i know a little about them .i think that is a sauger hard to tell by the pic .did it have dark blotches on it ?big canine teeth and a spiny dorsal ,it may have been .

It is definitely not a sauger. It looks like it has to be a trout of some sort. Was the photo not very good or was it really that silver in appearance? It looks the most like a small oddly colored rainbow. And trout do have small teeth.

And what creek was this? I know Clear Creek is stocked with trout, and I think they stock both browns and rainbows.

A stocked rainbow typically doesn't have these bright colorations. I have some photos at home of some stocked fish I have caught in WV, and they look almost identical to the one you caught.

DEFINITELY a trout and yes once they get bigger than 8-10" they get some decent teeth. I never lip them, learned that lesson young!

I would be VERY interested in where you caught that though. No interest in fishing there more of an interest in Ohio streams that are actually supporting trout for some period of time.

If you don't want to make it public and rather PM that would be cool too.

well no answer from odnr but i talked to an online friend of mine who is going to school for marine biology she gave the pic to her proffeser (dont mind the spelling) and the answer is a trout of the rainbow variety but he dont under stand the size of the teeth though he thinks because of the mine water running into the creek had something to do with it but its a rainbow none the less according to him but im still wanting to catch another one and have it mounted if it has teeth like this one did

This is why academia gets such a bad name. Some schmo of a professor says that mine water may have made the teeth grow longer. Gimme a break.

Its a rainbow with normally sized teeth.

If this fish was caught in a northern lake erie trib it is likely a rainbow. The tribs further south are to warm in the summer to support trout. Could you please let me know if this was a lake erie trib.

it was a creek in south east ohio in belmont county about 3 hours from lake erieand about 35 minutes from ohio river just a small creek deepest part maybe 6 foot shallowest maybe 2 feet it was caught below a old dam that they built back in early 1900's to dry up the ravine to build houses

the creek connects to a few lakes that are stocked with rainbow trout every year im thinking he got there (the creek) when we had thos big floods a few year back but from what i hear from a few people that live near the creek there is a breeding population going now in the deeper stretch of the creek

from your description of the markings and the photo I would have to say its a poorly colored brook trout. I've caught one or two here in NY that were lighter in color... not too that extent though.
