I would like to try ice fishing for walleye on Lake Erie this winter. I have all the gear but no knowledge of where to go or what to do.

If it involves miles of travel on the ice, that would be an issue because I don't have a 4 wheeler or snomobile.

I have fished out of Port Clinton and Huron with my boat. Can I get into fish by walking out from the boat launches?

I was thinking about a charter service, maybe an airboat operator to get started. Any recommendations?

First off welcome to the site,
If we get good ice, maybe early feb to mid feb with current weather patterns Catawba launch is a place you can walk out off 1 to 3 miles.as far charters theres a link posted in the ice fishing section.you can take an airboat to south bass will get the first ice.

I'm still looking, I don't normally use a guide. Bud Gering is a good one on the island, Capt. Brad takes guys out on the airboat, and Capt. Mike offers semi-guided trips from the mainland. I will try and remember to dig up their #'s (lost my cell). Any safe ice even off the islands is weeks away.

Definetly go with a guide your first time out. Erie can be very dangerous. A guide can get you to and from safely. Also they can put you on fish and show you the ropes. There are alot of people that go out without them and get themselves in some dangerous situations. Better safe then sorry.
