Never.
OK this is were the debate starts. I've hunted on on an Air Base/Airport and in Ravenna Arsenal. Both have fences around them. One was like 1500 acres the other 25K acres. So if these are considered high fence hunts then yes if not then it is no. So I guess I'm saying d all the above :)

No, but a couple of time a year we let some birds go here at home then let the dogs find them and shoot a few. That's about the only way I'd ever get to shoot a pheasant or quail around here. We let go way more then we kill.

I clicked no before I saw that you included pheasants. I've not hunted big game like that but I have had several pheasant hunts on stocked preserves. Need birds to make a bird dog and wild birds is something we are weak on here in Ohio so I have to supplement my training :(

Yes, pheasants only, excluding Ravenna Arsenal for controlled deer hunts.

I've never been to one of those high fence pheasant preserves. How high do the fences have to be to keeps the birds in?:mischeif: ;)

yes i have a go to pennyslvania twice a year for a bow jamboree they are excess animals left over from hunters that did not want them or farms that are over populated not saying its right but it sure is a blast having a fallow buck ran past you close enough to sneeze on its bow only and for $225 a hunt im not complaining plus i live like 8 miles from a few high fenced hunting area's

I was thinking the same thing! LOL!!! I've hunted a pheasant preserve before but all the birds could fly away onto other property and they did so on a regular basis! LOL!!!

Miles!
Actually, they are not so much fenced-in as much as they are "pay-to-play" kinds of places in which you pay a certain rate per bird, and they release as many birds as you pay for, and do so in a relativey small area that you can "hunt" and get close flushes. The birds don't travel very far; some may fly away, but that has not been my experience in the few times I've gone.

Yeah some of the places don't have enough land to really make it a nice hunt if you pay for more than a handful of birds. The ones that have liberated birds are the nicest but also tend to cost more because they're more expensive to operate. I usally do those when I have a younger dog that needs birds or an old dog that I want to get into birds without hunting them too hard.
Maybe they could use nets like the field goal kickers use! ;)

I'm going to go ahead and say that Ravenna Arsenal is not HF hunting heres why....
1. Although there is high fence but the fence was put up for another reason not for the perpose of holding game animals for a hunting for a profit organization. The deer just happen to be there so the dnr and airports need our help to manage the herd. So is it a controled hunt, yes in every sence of the word.
2. The deer in the Ravenna Arsenal are not genetically selected for traits like you would find on a HF preserve (at least not by people I'm well aware of the theory of natural selection and Darwens Laws.:coolgleamA: )

I've hunted where there has been birds released as well as the farms where you pay for the birds. As far as a canned hunts, not done that....not sayin it's all wrong for all situations...yours or mine.....here piggy piggy.....
How's that for ridin the fence....

No, I bear hunted in Maine back in about 2000. The place where we stayed had a high fence operation for hogs and red stag. The hog pen looked to be about 2-3 acres in size and the red stag maybe 40 acres. The guide was telling us what a challenging hunt it was:yikes:
Yes pheasant hunting up in Michigan 5 or 6 times and I also did it once down in TN wild bore hunting.
The wild bore we do on are own now after we was told how to do it after the first time.

I use to hunt WPAFB when the kids were stationed there. But never a pay to play operation.

never done it, but not totally closed minded to it either.
I guess it would depend upon the outfit and the size of the property.

Yes. Canned phesant hunt with customers, Ravenna, and a population control hunt inside another fenced area.

O... You mean like a "petting farm?" NO.

Folks when I said high fence preserve I mean a place that you pay to shoot animals. Ravena, airports, and military bases don't count because the critters are not stocked for you to shoot.
Thanks

Oops, I might have to change my vote. ODNR stocked whitetails and turkeys in the state and now I have to pay(buy a license) to hunt them.:hide::mischeif:

I have hunted for Pheasent on preserves but not for any thing eles. Wild birds are hard to come by, and if you go to a public/state property on openig day or Thanksgiving morn it is some times a#@#@@!and elbos in some places. It is safer for the hunter and the dog!!! And have no problem useing preserves in this fashion.!

I hunted a high fence ranch once in Wi. (Forest of antlers.) The hunt was paid for by a "handicap" friend or I wouldn't have went. The ranch was 1800 acres so was wasn't like shooting fish in a barrel. It still didn't seem as sporting as my farm in pike co. Oh..... BIG deer though!!!!!

That would be more money that I don't have. To fly or drive there. Would be easier to find a place here in Ohio or make a 4 hour drive and hunt on Ted Nugents farm in Michigan................Rich
