any special family traditions around your house over the Christmas and New Years?
My entire family comes over each year for Christmas and then again for New Years. We all enjoy the time spent together. We spend part of Christmas Day opening gifts and enjoy seeing all the grandchildren have such a great time.
We have the same thing to eat every Christmas and New Years Eve as well.
Prime rib for all on Christmas Day and because of a family tradition from my wife's family we have Pork & Sauerkraut on New Years Eve.
Do any of the rest of you have any traditions during this time of year?

That's funny. Prime rib x-mas day, pork and sauerkraut on new years DAY not eve. Too funny! We go to the Grandparents house on X-mas eve. This year, they moved it to my uncles, though.

Our tradition was to get together Christmas Eve and open the gifts we had recieved from each other. After that we'd head to church for the candlelight service.
My youngest brother and I moved outta state, but my younger brother and sister still get together with Mom. My wife and daughter are driving up to Ohio this year for Christmas and will be attending the get together. I'm trying to get my sister to set up a webcam so I can "virtually" be there too.

My wife and I attend my parents Christmas party on Xmas Eve. Then we drive home and usually spend Xmas day with her parents. But this year my wife has to work on Xmas day (nurse) so I'm not sure what I'll do. I'm thinking of going bowhunting in one of my old stands in Wood County and spending the day at my Parents again.

My wife and I set a policy that to this day we honor, and that is that we spend Christmas together, just us, though now just us and our kids. And everyone respects that, fortunately. We make our rounds to other family festivities between Christmas and New Year's, and spend New Year's Eve with friends.
We always go to church Christmas Eve evening, and when we come home, we each open just one gift from under the tree. Of course, after the kids go to bed, Santa visits, and Christmas morning is spent opening Santa's gifts as well as all the other gifts under the tree.
Dinner? Always turkey on Christmas, and pork and sauerkraut on New Year's.
And I always make plenty of homemade egg nog from scratch for Christmas and New Year's, "regular" for the adults, and "unleaded" for the kids. If anyone is interested in my recipe, I'll gladly post it. Trust me, you'll put on weight just looking at it!

Well, the house will soon be filled with family and friends.
As we gather in our home today and tomorrow to celebrate the birth of Christ, we will give thanks to one another and patch up rough edges from another trying year. We will renew our affirmations of growing ever closer. We will laugh and we will cry. We will adore and play with the children. We will pray. We pray our Eric is watching over all of us from heaven, especially his younger brother who is currently in the Middle East. Merry Christmas guys, you are very special.
As always, I pray for world peace. God bless all of the wonderful people who volunteer in our military to serve our great nation, the UNITED STATES of AMERICA, especially those overseas and their families who miss them dearly.
To all of you, may you always find the peace you seek.

well as a child of course always was home for christmas . then as the 7 of us kids got older and took wives and husbands , we always went to mom and dads house for christmas eve, and eather spent the night , or came back the next day for dinner. my mother passed away 12 years ago or so , dad remaried , i lost my older brother and protecter about 6 or so years ago . my family dont meet anymore , around the holidays , but i do try to have a reunion at my house in the summer . just stick a couple stakes in the ground , and them hillbillies will come from anywear to throw shoes . but my son has been coming for christmas eve. with his new wife . and spending the night , they bought a new house this summer , and i thought they would stay home , but they are coming , anyways ,both my daughters live with me , and the three grandkids . thank God . my oldest daughter is 27 my son 15 , and my lil punkinpie is now 22. and they never fail to say . i love you when they are leaving the house or we are leaving , no matter who is around . you all make sure to have a merry christmas , and a safe holiday season . h
