I don't know if this is where this belongs or not.I have a friend with 3 acres of land.He called the Game Warden about the deer eating his tulips. The GW came to his house and gave him 10 kill permits. He was then told if he used all these up,to call back and he would give him 10 more. These deer were wasted and shot with rifles. If he saw a buck running across the road,he would grab a rifle and shoot it when it crossed his yard.He could also legaly hunt at night with a light. This is on 3 acres ,how many would you get for a farm,2000?I guess if you would like a bigger bag limit ,you should plant tulips......

That seems a little extreme for that small of an area but there may be others complaining in the same general area and this is the GW's answer to it, a friend of mine has a hundred acre farm and they gave him 10 crop damage permits for it, nothing was said about getting more from what I know about it, he could also take by any means day or night shotgun or rifle, only 2 deer were taken due to the first shots they stopped comming around sorta like gun season lol.

Unless the something has changed or it is county by county your friend is full of it. In Guernsey county only soil and water will give out the kill permits, they are now part of the division of wildlife. I use guernsey as an example because I personally talked to the man who gives the permits out. For tulips..........?:coco::coco::coco::coco::bouncy:: bouncy::D, WHAT!! I just re-read you post, first off, you have got to notify the sheriff, tell them what property you are hunting, you can only hunt until midnight with lights, shooting bucks is not part of a nuisance program.....somebody help me out, is this legit.........deer wasted..........I am almost positive that this is spring only now.......

Damage is damage weather it's crops or flowers property is being damaged by the wildlife the GW's will issue the permits, never heard the soil and water guy's doing it but on my friends farm it was the GW, he also asked if he was going to be shooting at night to give him a courtesy call just to give him heads up in case someone called about the shooting after dark.

Don't really know if it's standardized or just what the GW's think is the right thing to do. I'm going by what I know from the Columbiana County GW doing on my friends farm.

Bucks are not allowed to be taken with the crop damage tags. Yes spot lights and rifle can be used ( it's up to the GW). If the GW found out the guy was shooting them and leaving them lay he probably wouldn't get more tags or worse.

A friend that has an orchard accidently shot a little buck when using crop damage tags. He called the Game Warden who came out and took the buck.

If I remember right my friend was alowed to take the bucks but was not allowed to keep the racks, meat only.

Boy, you got that right. One of the problems is that there doesn't seem to be a writen rule book for crop damage tags. Columbiana and Mahoning county Game Wardens have differing oppinions about them. Mahoning tends to be strickter.

There's 2 guys here at work that have been helping to fill nuisance tags for a guy in an urban area near Columbus where the deer are doing a lot of damage to residential landscaping in an area where folks spend big $$$ on their landscaping. The GW said they could use 22 caliber rifles & shoot the deer in the head (they've opted for bows). He also told them they had to kill a fawn/yearling for every doe they shot, so as to not imbalance the number of yearlings running around and they were not allowed to keep any antlers off of any bucks that were taken using nuisance tags. So, in other words, it's strictly a population control excersize in an area that's getting over run with to many deer. Sounds to me like the GW's have their act together on the nuisance permits.

I understand the deer control in town. But not so much in the country. What if everone around your deer hunting property got 10 to 20 rifle permits for killing at night. You would think you there would be a ratio for land and deer.Alot of smaller hunting areas(under 100 acrs.) have alot of 1 to 2 acre neihbors....

I'm sure they allocate them more carefully than that. A lot of times, it's going to be on a 1st come 1st serve basis. A lot of folks complain about deer damage but don't contact the GW's for nusaince permits. So, if they already know they have an overpopulation in a given area and someone applies for them, they're going to respond to that one person. If 10 people apply from the same area they aren't going to hand out permits the same.

I'm going to guess that part of the reason the GW gave so many permits to this guy is that he isn't giving many others out in the area.
