My cousin and I loaded up the truck last Sunday and drove down to our favorite hunting spot in Jackson County, near Welston. We got in early enough to go in and set up our tree stands. We picked out a couple of good spots and headed back to camp eagerly anticipating opening day. Later that night the rain set in, thats when I remembered where my poncho was...:nono: the garage....

We got up early Monday morning and hit the woods, I got up in my stand and waited for daylight. The rain was light so I was feelin good, couldnt hear a thing in the woods tho, and elephant could walk right past you without you knowing it if you're back was turned. Light came and I watched a doe run down the creek bed, I didnt have a shot so I just watched as she passed by. About 8:00 the rain really starts comming down hard and I chuckle to myself, "boy what a day" I really didnt need that shower this morning:)

I start getting the shivers, I'm chilled to the bone and I figure "what the heck, I'm having a smoke" I light up and take a drag, and watch as the smoke drifts down over the woods, bout the third drag and I watch a spike buck bust out of the brush and stop below me, he must smell my cigarette cause he's looking pretty nervous, I'm thinking "I really dont want a spike" when he turns around, I look to where he is pointing and this eight pointer runs out and stops, I think "thats more like it" and level my 1187, I pull the trigger and he drops kicking, the spike runs off and as I'm looking around a monster doe jumps out of the brush and takes off.

Heres a pic at the check station:

I got back to the truck and my cousin was sleepin inside :gaga: , we took the deer to check it in and headed to a coin op to dry our clothes.
Wednesday turned out to be my cousins turn, he had some bad luck so I showed him a spot I had jumped a buck Tuesday, He set up a stand and a couple of hours later this seven point walked in on him.

Good eye, yup, thats the crossroads general store, Broken Aro has been my favorite deer hunting spot for the past 7 or 8 years. I have seen some real nice bucks come outta there. They keep timbering it tho, dunno how much longer it will remain a good spot.
