My buddy and I, having both killed our archery bucks and looking for something new to do, decided to seine some minnows and head to the Ohio River to one of our hot spots for some sauger action. This spring, the sauger were sort of hit-or-miss there, so we didn't know what to expect. I hooked one on the first cast, so we were feeling good about the choice. Most of the fish were small, we only caught 13 keepers between 16-18", but easily topped 100 fish for the day all together. I nailed most of mine on an 1/8oz orange/yellow jighead with a yellow 2" grub on my UL rig with 2lb test line. This spot has little current, so on light line and an 1/8oz head I get to the bottom pretty easily.

The surprise of the trip was catching my first ever walleye! My buddy and I have been sauger fishing for 6-7 years on the Ohio and NEVER caught a walleye before Saturday. I caught one about 12" and my buddy caught 4 or 5 small ones!

Nope, no hybrids. We did catch a couple of stray white bass and a few skipjacks accidentally, though. We hooked them as we were reeling up off the bottom!
