The gun you see is the old H&R 20 gauge that my dad gave me for her, and I customized it with some input from Jeff Goebel, and some help from some friends. Sam passed up a nice doe on Friday night waiting on a buck, and then a smaller doe Saturday morning. We had a nice doe and a button buck come in at 3:20, and she just couldn't get the gun in the right position, and then when she did, the button buck was directly behind the doe, so I wouldn't let her shoot. They left, and I asked her if she was bummed, she said yeah a little, I then told her don't worry, maybe it wasn't meant to be and we might see a buck. She started playing her Gameboy again, and I looke dup the hill, and here came this buck. I whispered to her to "put the Gameboy down, her comes a buck!" She slid the game in her pocket, got the gun up, and when I asked if she had the crosshairs on him, she said "yes", I said " are you right behind the shoulder?" Again she replied "yes". I said "shoot him" She did, and the buck jumped about 3 feet in the air, and took off on a dead run, and I was watching him and then when he got out of sight, I thought I heard him crash. I looked over at Sam, and she looked at me, and we started high fiving.
When we got out of the tree, and went to where she had shot him, I couldn't find any blood, and started to doubt the shot. I asked her again, did you have the crosshairs on the deer where we talked about? She said "yes Dad, just a little high, because of the angle" (We had discussed angles when shooting the crossbow, and the fact that she needs to aim at the opposite shoulder etc... I guess she remmbered. LOL We decided to slowly track him and see if there was any blood. We were following the upturned leaves, and then I found a single drop of blood. I looked ahead, and saw the white belly, and told her to walk ahead of me with her gun, and keep her eyes open in case we saw him. She took a few steps, and looked back at me with a BIG smile, I said "you see him?" She said YES, then we did some hugging etc... The 5/8 oz. 20 gauge slug had center punched the lungs, and never exited, which explained the lack of blood. She actually could not have made a better shot, and in fact, I told her "you made a great shot, you know why?" She said "why?" I replied "because he didn't go far". Everything worked out great, and it was a great experience for both of us, in fact, my heart was pounding just like it was me doing the shooting. Now I have two younger sisters standing in line waiting their turns. LOL

OH, and one other thing before I forget, we were both "smoked up", and were not winded by any of the deer that we had around the stand. I actually used a combination of hickory and apple wood yesterday afternoon.

Actually, the setup is 3 BIG poplar trees, close together, and I have a lock on in the middle tree, which sets behind the other two, and climbing sticks going up to the lock on, and then she steps into the platform of my old Viper, and I bring the seat down and set it up. I had a safety line from the ground to the stand. She didn't have any problems with it, and the set up was cool, I could actually whisper in her ear. I will see if I can get a pic of it up, it worked out well. We were up around 18-20 feet.

What was the setup with the H&R 20 gauge? Drill and Tap and cut off the choke? recoil pad?

What was the setup with the H&R 20 gauge? Drill and Tap and cut off the choke? recoil pad?
We cut 1 1/2" off the barrel, turning it into an improved cylinder, 2 1/2" off the stock, installed a new recoil pad, then added a slip on Limbsaver recoil pad. I then had a smith drill and tap it for a scope rail, and installed a cheap 4X scope. I then added sling swivels. Then I stuffed an old shotgun shell full of shot, crimped and taped with some old rags to take up the extra space into the stock for a little more weight to help further reduce the recoil. Finally I added a BearTooth comb raising kit that will help eliminate "cheek slap". It looks pretty cool, and shoots awesome at 50 yards with 20 gauge 5/8 oz slugs. It took me about 6 shots to get it sighted in last year. She said she didn't even feel it. Sam has shot scoped .22's, and a crossbow for several years now, and shoots very well. I debated whether or not to have her shoot the gun before we went hunting, but decided against it, I didn't want her to be thinking of anything other than putting the crosshairs on the right spot, and shooting. She centerpunched the lungs, and he didn't go far.
hey BIGH that stand she sittin in looks real familiar

I'm sure it does, but it isn't the one I bought off you, it is my old steel Viper. LOL sorry. I have killed a few out of that stand I got from you though. I haven't used the steel model since I bought that aluminum one off you, so I broke it out for my daughter.
