hey guys...i live in southwestern pa in greene county! i have always wanted to hunt ohio but never really followed through with it! the best counties for me to hunt would probably be Monroe, Belmont, and Jefferson and surounding counties!

Here is my question....would it be best for me to try public land or private? Im sure i would rather hunt private land...part two of that question is...Are the land owners generous..will most let you hunt or is it hard to find private land to hunt?

any suggestions would be greatly appriciated!!

THANKS GUYS!!!!

Its case by case. If you have nowhere, start public. Remember, Even a bad day hunting is better than not hunting at all.

Gaining permission to hunt private property right before deer season starts would be tough to get. I usually start out in early spring and get permission to ground hog hunt. I talk to the land owner each time I arrive and sometimes even bring along some trail bologna or other offering as a “thank you” for allowing me the opportunity to hunt on his property. Usually when the comfort level between hunter and landowner improves then I will ask to hunt the deer season either with a bow, gun or both. I have in the past baled hay, run fence, posted property lines for land owners. This type of activity usually solidifies long term relations and many years of hunting on private property. You can give it a try, but with less than 2 weeks to opening day of gun season, my bet would be on public land.
