Well, looked like it was going to be a great day in the woods. Got up extra early "as usual" and headed out for the woods. When I arrived an hour before daylight, I was the only one and was in my spot by 7:00. Beautiful morning might I say, crisp, cold and quiet. Around 7:45 I could finally shoot and started my first rattle session. This is great!! It's primetime right now, the woods is still faintly dark and quiet. So I rattle and then finish with a grunt followed by two bleats. About 10 minutes later I hear a huge crash and brances break. My heart is pounding as I grab my bow. Crunch, crunch and it's getting closer to me. Just behind me the sound gets louder. Then I hear, "hey, there's a buck rub right there!". Two cross gun hunters coming crashing throught the woods 10 yards to my left. Never saw me. So, I politely waved my hat and said, "hey". The one guy, not even wearing camo, looks at me and says, "sorry". So, they keep walking right in front of me and right through my setup, talking loud. I thought it would be a good time to get up and refreshen my scent and take a piss. I was really upset, but thought I should stick it out and see what happens. Maybe they would run one to me :)
I sit down for another 30 minutes and then rattle again. Then I see what looks like an orange hat. Yep, 100 yards directly in front of me is one of the crossgun hunters standing by a tree. I couldn't believe it!! I was so upset. I still had faith to hunt. So, I sat longer another 30 minutes and then hear something yelling, "here, here, here". Three bird hunters come walking throught the woods. Then I called it a day. The bird hunters I can put up with, but disrespectful other hunters I cannot!! Not sure If I'll ever hunt public land on a weekend bowhunting again after that. Guess I'll have to go around begging farmers to let me hunt private land.
