Since ya asked favorites, if you could only choose ONE bait for flatheads..what would it be??
I would say for me live suckers for my local river ..if i was fishing the mighty Ohio r. then it would be fresh skipjack herring for sure.
If i only had to pick one for both rivers..then live suckers would be the one(since the flatheads in my local river dont feed on skipjack herring, but they both have suckers and are part of thier diet in both rivers)

I picked fresh cut Shad, Mainly because I can usually get shad fairly easy, and the fresh works somewhat better than frozen.
I would have choosed skipjacks, but I dont fish the Ohio much and thus they are hard to come by.
Same with suckers, they would be a high choice for me but I cant always find them:(

I will have to go with fresh or frozen cut shad. Since they are more readily available to me. I do use suckers when I catch them in the casting net. :)

Fresh cut skips. Best bait for the Ohio River.

I picked the bluegill category. My top bait has always been green sunfish. I like pumpkinseeds, too, but the green ears always catch the most fish. Like others have said, skipjack would be tops in the Ohio and other places where they're abundant. I've never been lucky enough to have wild suckers for bait, but I imagine they'd be hard to beat. There have also been times when goldfish outfished any other bait I've used.

CW glad you mentioned them. I've only used them a few times, put me in the money in that river tournament last Sept. with a goldfish !!
Easy to keep alive, last along time on the hook too.
