Any you ever go deep sea fishing? 6 of us from the hunting club have charted a boat out of Panama City Fla this Monday. We will be fishing for Amberjack, snapper, wahoo, and anything else that is unlucky enough to bite our hook. I think is a 14 hour fishing trip. We are leaving tomorrow. The drive from Atlanta is about 6 hours.

ok well we made it back. Monday it was raining so hard you would have thought we was in a hurricane. We debated about going but the captin said it you be safe since there was no lighting and the wind was not strong. Thought the rain was coming down hard the water was pretty calm. We only had 2 - 4 ft waves. There was six of u and we caught 351 lbs of fish. 84 fish, which were a mix of AmberJack, RutterJack, Red Snapper, and Grouper. We caught one real nice Red Snapper. I will tell ya all my arms are like jello today. It was a great time, I would definitely recommend doing a charter at least once. I took my digital camera so I'll see if I can get some pics posted for you all later.

There's nothing like catching a fish bigger than you..:)

Back in 1993 I caught a 193 pound thresher shark. No fighting chair, medium deep sea tackle, but I did get a fighting belt about 30 minutes after I hooked into her.

We chased her in the boat for 20 minutes and I knew I had a biggen when the captain walked up on the bow of the boat, looked at the first mate and said "Paul,,,,,(pause for effect),,, you had better get the gun".............

55 minutes later I landed the shark and then took a NAP!!!!! :)

We ate thresher shark for months after that...:)

Man, I could not imagine catching a fish that big. Heck just reeling that 16 oz sinker back up from the bottom is though by the end of the day. It was fun and we plan on doing it again this October.

I'll have to tell you about the King Mackeral I lost in P-cola, FA sometime....

Yeah you will have to tell me about that. I heard P-cola is a great place to fish out of. They say the fish are bigger in that area since it typically does not get fished as hard as Panama City and Destin. I am ready to go again. I just finished cleaning up the fish, deboning and cutting off some of the fins. I still can't believe how much fish we brought bag.

Can anyone tell me how to post a picture here? I'll post one of the fish at the dock. I have it loaded it to the computer.

Pacific Blue Marlin....

I had a boss who had been statioin at MCAS Kaneohe Bay back in the 80's.

He had a picture of a 700 or 800 pound marlin he had caught. He said it took him six hours to land the fish and he ended up with nerve damage to one of his hands from it.....

I never fished South Central Ohio but we did fish Salt Fork a lot. We would jug for catfish in some of the shallow coves that were part of the lake but seperated by a bridge over the water. We routinely caught 20+ lb shovel heads. through them all back too. We would set out our jugs and fish from the boat with rod and reel all night.

Actually we threw alot of Amberjack back because they were 25 or 26 inches and they have to be 28 to keep. I still can't imagine fishing for those 100 lb or better fish, my arms are still sore today. It is definitely fun!

You can't beat salt water fishing. At least that's my opinion.

I was going to try and go after wook today, but the rain ruined that...

You should have seen the rain we were fishing in! We got to the marina and the parking lot was full of guys debating whether to go out or not. We were the only group to go, no other boats bothered going out. It was monsoon like rain. Funny thing was has dark as the skies and heavy rain the sea was pretty calm. We had 2-4ft waves and actually I think the 2-4fts were few and far between. It was extremely smooth. by noon the sun was out. We all wore swimming trunks and took a change of clothes. The captain was not afraid of the weather but said we might not have an enjoyable time. Well when we got back we all were glad to have gone. It was a great time. Everyone should do it at least once and I would not have a problem recommending the charter we used.

reminds me of when i lived in houston,we went bout 100 miles outin the gulf and caught ling, jack, red snapper, bonito, king fish, shark an an occasional jewlfish, lots of fun, many 2 at a time hook ups.

I really did not think I would like fishing in the gulf, but I had a much better time than the times I fished out from Daytona Beach. Like I said anyone that has never done it before should go at least once. For a three day trip which included a round of Gulf and buying a big surf rod at walmart it cost about $350 a piece (6 persons). I would never go on one of those party boats, charters are the way to go. Even from Ohio you could drive down one day fish the next then drive back, especially to some where like Myrtle Beach or the Gulf.

Charters are great, but they are way too much money for me.

Party boats can be good too, buy it's all about where your standing on the boat.

You MUST be on the stern of the boat in order to catch the fish. I think it's because your line stays still and the vibration of the motor.
